I just finished my iodine crystals process and yielded about 7 grams for 1 pint of tincture

but its soooo damn red/black and i keep squezzing and pressing the crystals(more like red/black rock) and now its down to 5 grams.

Should I keep going on pressing it??? or is it good enough. Its tough enough and im starting to vice it. Good or Bad??? i know I should keep pressing it till dry but is the color going to vanish or even get lighter than that????

Any suggestion is a good suggestion....I cant find anyplace to tell me what the color should be. Thanks

7g isn't very much for a pint of tinc, you should've gotten about 3 times that much. Remember that you don't want you I2 to be exposed to light.

You should also keep pressing. Just put it under the leg of your kitchen table, between the pages of an old book is what I do. Keep the floor from turning red. The remaining crystals should be dry as possible. Switrd always breaks 'em up a bit, then wraps them up again, in clean filters...and back into the book they go. Until the filters they're wrapped in stay clean.

swims i crystals are going great however will it become more clear or stay dark like his still are? Swims yield is coming to about .7 for every ounce of tinct used....good or bad???

The crystals stay a dark sorta greyish color.

(correct me if I'm wrong fellas) They definately look like glimmering crystals though. Swtrd usually ends up with about 3 grams of crystals from 3 30ml bottles.

The % tincture being used is important here. It sounds like you are using 2%. If not, you are screwing up somewhere.

If so, the red color is throwing me a curve ball. Never saw red before, but maybe someone else has. Since you are in the states I assume you are using the little humco bottles or similar. 0.7g. per ounce would come to about 11 grams per pint, so you are getting about half a gram per ounce of tincture and thats not enough. To get it all is over 1g. per ounce, but 0.9-1.0g. per ounce is good. There is something wrong with the method you are using or your technique is off. The crystals are silvery grey and usually the towels used for drying have a bit of yellow and blue on them after squeezing. The ball should be hard to break up when finished squeezing, but dry on the inside when broken.

Post how SWIY did the procedure and maybe someone will spot where SWIY is going wrong. Iodine is too much of a pain in the ass not to get maximum yield.

swim adds double the volume/weight of psuedo

and shakes. Its disolved for him.....then he adds his lye to till ph level is at 12 or 13. Swim then gases with his hcl till seperation looks good enough and filters. Swim keeps the liquid(that should crystals) or keep the substance on the bottom(white substance)?????????????

actually swim processed half a pint......8 ozs and the yield was around 7....thats ok right??? id friken shoot myself if i got 7gms from 16 ozs...LOL.. sorry bout that...and actually the color is dark grayish for me the filters are a little dark red though or orange.

Sometimes my fingers type without my brain thinking :O LOL
