Tryp, what's the best lubricant for a ground glass stopcock in a sep funnel?

lab grease. Its some kind of silicone lubricant. I know this will horrify some of the chem guys, but Swigotta uses a bit of vegetable oil. Never had a problem with it.

Don't use silicone based grease on your glass. Use a lab grade joint grease or some other heavy mineral grease. I personally use synthetic bearing grease.

Use sparingly and only on the outside of the joint.

I knew if I said it was silicone based, I would fuck it up. Well, I'm glad tryp chimed in. I would hate to have sent you out looking for lab grease and confusing the shit out of you when they told you they don't have silicone based lab grease. Sorry bout dat dude. I shouldn't think, I should know.

Tryptamine, when you say synthetic bearing grease are you referring to automotive application?

You can use silicone grease, it is good high temp grease but it is really hard to clean off glassware and if baked it can wreck the glass.

tryp man you never replied to my ?'s i asked you how does the 2liter method not make meth and if not what does it make that makes you speed your ass off and it burns clear on the foil...........i know people that have been caught with some of it and lab results said it was meth plz clairify????also the guy that made up that method told me to tell you something.....he said that your pathetic and a wanna be chemist that don't have a degree he also said he wouldn't waste his time and get on here 2 explain anything to u....he told me to ask you a ? and that would be what does benzine+protein make???he said amphetimine and he said the 2 liter method does that.....plz elabarate thanks =)
