Cold Acetone Wash vs. Hot....
When should one do a ice cold acetone wash, I have heard that a cold acetone wash is usefull for limiting the loss of the pseudo, and then also when would it be appropriate to do the hot acetone wash?

Re: Cold Acetone Wash vs. Hot....
cold washes are your general purpose cleansing wash-----hot washes are for any sugar, glucose or glutamate in the pill binders----and dont forget, acetone boils whilst still cold to touch so keep winding that heat up till she is hot enough to disolve these substances

Re: Cold Acetone Wash vs. Hot....
Perhaps a general rule of thumb would be to rinse with cold if the process you are performing is cold or room temp. Rinse with hot if the process is a boil.

Re: Cold Acetone Wash vs. Hot....
Do you mean by the rule of thumb being a hot or cold reaction the end reaction? (ie. Red phosphous\iodine or the cold nh3\lithium method) Im planning on, after extracting the pseudo, using the cold cook nh3\lithium method
So because of this method being selected soes that mean that I should not Wash with toluene or xylene by heating to 110c keep simmering for 8 mins? Should i just wash using xylene cold or regular style??

Re: Cold Acetone Wash vs. Hot....
no he isnt talking of the reduction--he is referring to a cold cleanse looking for pov or glues--------rather than a hot cleanse looking for glutamate or glucose-------and no these dont take the place of your toluene wash--you seem to still have confusion--this washing procedure is for no glutamate or glucose -----------grind pills to dust---12 hr mineral turps soak--filter--toluene wash holding at 108c for 8 mins--filter---2 more toluene washes using same procedure--allow to cool--2 cold acetone washes filtering each time---then your extraction--freeze extraction solvent--filter and then evaporate---an A/B extraction---then into the ammonia you go

Re: Cold Acetone Wash vs. Hot....
this appears to be your first cook---a couple of tips---i use hexane in the A/B extraction and the same hexane goes into the ammonia with the eph--the books say 6ml of hexane per gram of eph---squirt the eph/hexane in slowly and wait till she stops bubbling--chuck some marbles in with ammonia, slows the bumping and helps mix---cook no more than 20mins and if still blue quench with dnh2o---if blue goes befor 20mins then add a little bit more lithium---must be some blue visible for whole 20mins---you MUST dry all solvents ----MUST get every drop of water out of the A/B befor squirting into the ammonia---when gassing not all meth precipitates at once,,,a couple of gassing required,,,add 50ml of hexane each gas,,,and NEVER gas for longer than 20secs----if i think of any others ill add them later

Re: Cold Acetone Wash vs. Hot....
If you do a hot cleanse would it remove the pov and glues, or is that only the cold.I could just do the hot everytime as some my pills are always different types-ingredients and Im looking to do it so that ALL the potential crap is out. Some of the ingredits from the two different types are :
carnauba wax,
colloidial silicon,
dibasic calcium phosphate
hypromellose
magnesium stearate
polyethlyne glycol
cellulose
cellulose acetate
hydroxypropyl cellulose
povidone
titanium dioxide
sodium chloride
polysorbate 80
Also if the temp is over 108c, is that a big deal as long as I keep stirring?

Re: Cold Acetone Wash vs. Hot....
theres nothing in that list that requires a hot acetone wash----but dont forget to freeze the extraction solvent--them waxes are a prick---but a hot acetone wash will pick up everything a cold one does---just i dont feel you need one with that list displayed---that 108c can be played with but must be over 100c---this boils off any little bit of water in the toluene(which wont come out when drying) and melts the glues and other binders--good luck
