thank you--------the set up you describe is good for distilling---i can not see how the water aspirator can supply a vaccum--please explain it to me and why you think it could---the need for a vacumn is to reduce the heating temp required as liquids boil in lower temps under vacumn--or you wish to remove one substance in the liquid ie:safrole oil can be removed by vacumn distillation by setting it at the right temp---ie:you have a mix of methanol and toluene--you wish to take the methanol out so set the temp at 68c--which means only the methanol will evaporate out as toluene evaporates at 110c----in a roto evaporator they have a computer readout where you can set flask rotation speed--flask temp--water temp--vacumn pressure--in the set up you explain your going to require a vacumn display--as a basic you can buy a vacumn gun you can attach--as you pump the handle a vacumn is created and the pressure is displayed on the little guage on the gun--im battling to visualize the aspirator so may be way off her--please explain it --but no matter what--you must get some readouts to be proficient on the unit to be fully operational

MDMA thank you for the apology.

This setup will work for vac distillation, however the aspirator will work for most vac needs but it won't build up enough vacuum to distill your ketone. You need a mechanical pump of some sort.

Another note, while using a graham condenser in a distillation setup you must setup for downwards distillation otherwise the condenser will block itself and cause sputtering and backing up, if not something worse.

A side note(yes I 'm bragging)I'm getting a second vacuum pump for free, barely been used and it pulls a vacuum down to a few mm's.
