Default Just a few Q's before swim attempts the rxn

Swim is getting ready to do his first nano, using gotta’s ratio of 1 e, 1 rp, 1.5 I, and he has a few questions he feels he needs to ask before he begins.

1.) How high should swim set the element on the hot plate? As much as swim would like to do a long, wet cook, he really can’t free up that much time, and doesn’t think he should leave his first rxn unattended. He figures he can put together maybe five hours of spare time, and would like to be able to cook it in that time. How hot should he go? 5, 6, maybe 7?

2.) Curbshot’s nano calls for twice as much Iodine as gotta’s ratio, and uses peroxide in the rxn, and no water. Just curious as to why this is.

3.) About the iodine crystals: again, swim has never seen these before, and doesn’t know what he’s looking for. Are the crystals supposed to be metallic silver in colour, and look like little pins? Another thing about the iodine: when swim opened the jar he used for the iodine, it stunk a little, kind of like the tincture did in the bottles. But, after he decanted the fluid and the crystals touched air, swim was overtaken by an incredibly overpowering chlorine smell. It was so strong that it burned swims eyes and throat. Swims whole apartment smelled like a public pool for a good two days. I guess the question here is, is this supposed to happen? And if it is, why didn’t anyone ever mention it in the countless posts about iodine extraction? Swim was caught off guard, as he was not expecting it. Oh, and anybody got any good tips for getting these fucking iodine stains out?

4.) Swim is going to perform his first rxn tonight. Any final bits of advice, tips, or trade secrets that anyone wants to share before swim gets under way? Is the smell really that bad? Swim doesn’t think it can be much stronger than the eye-searing chlorine smell from the iodine. Swim hopes that he yields something for his efforts, although a little voice in the back of swims mind tells him that there is a good chance that he will end up with nothing. Swim did some calculations last night, and realized that he could have bought some jib for less than it is costing him to manufacture it. But, swim needs a new hobby, and growing weed has gotten boring and repetitive, requiring almost no thought at all. Plus, you can’t buy the satisfaction that comes with doing drugs made by ones own hand.

(1)...put your flask in a small skillet or a glass coffee pot put in cooking oil about 1/2 to 3/4 inch deep. use a cooking thermometer to monitor the oil. around 190 to 210 degrees oil temp works good. all hot plates are different. low and just above is about 190 on most of em. SWIM always tests his hotplate with the oil before starting actual cook. hot plates go on and off to maintane temp, thats why they suck you will get it up to the desired temp and it will come on go off come on go off sometimes dropping your oil temp as much as 25 degrees before it comes back on. find the happy spot. mark a small mark on the hot plate with a marker where the happy spot is. like i said an oil temp max of about 200 degrees seems to be the happy spot so it dont cool down alot before it kicks back on. watch your balloon it will shrink quite a bit if it cools off to much. you want it to stay tite, when it cools to much it will shrink a bit to the point of being loose. a bouncy balloon has those ridges in it before you blow it up. if it shrinks to where you can see the folds of the balloon its to cool. you want it blown up enuff to where the balloon is smooth skinned. this is the stuff you cant learn at harvard or any other college thats why its priceless.

(2)...dont know about this one have never used peroxide and from my limited knowledge seems foolish and not sure it would even work. this is what you do learn at harvard and other colleges lol. but if it takes double the iodine crystals then i wouldnt attempt that method just on that reason cuz i hate makin em for the exact same reasons you state in question 3 lol

(3)...the reason the smell was mild was it was a dilute solution remember the crystals are drawn from the solution. what was once 7% iodine solution is now 100% iodine. very poisonous and toxic shit as you now know from experience. i am sorry but i am laughing hard here. not AT you just that SWIM had the EXACT same experience so long ago lol i can tell you yes your crystals are proper and most excellent. they look kinda like sivery molten steel. almost like mercury but a bit darker when they are fisrt filtered. and like pins when you view the bottom of the glass jar with the liquid still in it. trust me your crystals are the way they are sposed to be. good luck with the stains. SWIM has had some luck with rubbing alcohol removing them. stains on your hands? wear em off is all i can say. SWIM has found that its easiest to set up properly at the start to avoid stains than to remove them. as you have by now already figured out as well. damn i cant quit chuckling here. it seems so deja-vu to me. like i said this is the shit a 100 years of college wont teach.

(4)... the smell is different than anything you will remember the balloon will breath and the smell will be strong in the room you are doin it in. how the strong smell comes thru the balloon yet the balloon loses no pressure is beyond me i guess it breaths thru the rubber somehow. i know for a fact the smell comes thru and its not a leak. if you have a leak the balloon wont keep tight no matter what you do.

doing your 1st rxn is always more costly than buying your gear and thats if everything gos perfect. at least the multitudes of chems and apparatuses and shit dont have to be purchased each and every time. make sure you save your RP out of your rxn fluid as it is easy to clean and reuse. personally i like the RP better after its been thru a rxn once and recleaned and dried. im not a smart man but it just seems its cleaner after a rxn than it was pre 1st time use. what i mean is in my opinion the rxn cleans all the bullshit out that our acetone/muriatic/lye concoctions that we all use might miss. the shit that is in it from the rxn is easily cleaned. when you reclean it it will smell like it did before you put it in the flask. an unmistakable RP smell. when you reclean it it will have that smell again when its clean. if its not clean it will have the smell that you will smell during your rxn, that unmistakable balloon smell. you will soon see exactly what i mean. now one final piece of advice, this is priceless, another one of those things that 100 years of college wont teach. approach the whole thing with the attitude that the rxn will fail. the a/b will fuck up, the gassing will go wrong. you will get nothing back but some cloudy solvent and an empty filter. that way if it does fail the disappointment wont seem so heavy on you. if it only makes a gram or even a single line you will be somewhat pleased if you are expecting nothing. if you are expecting to get back the perfect world yield that you expect from the mathmateical formula of your 1st 3 ingrediants, and you dont you will be disappointed. kinda like this... its mind over matter... if you dont mind, it dont matter. never take yourself seriously, its a hobby. the feeling of success when you are setting there going whewwwww, son of a bitch, that shit is good will be priceless as well. any dumbass can buy dope.

ok now the most prized advice i can give.

learn to know when you need a fuckin nap.

Well wicked you are. You are in for a real treat. We were both typing at the same time. You finished 3 minutes before I did. (It's my wife's fault. She was buggin me and kept breakin my concentration.) How many times have you written the words Deja Vue since you've been here? Yeah, me too. It's blowin my fuckin' mind. We must be long lost brothers or somethin'.

I must confess that I am not the one to follow when it comes to short and hot.

Hydrogen peroxide is an oxidizer. This reaction is a reduction. These are opposite in their actions. If I sat and thought about it, I would probably be wondering why anyone would use it also, but Swigotta laughed at that one as of day one. So, don't use it. Substitute DH2O for it. No, just draw a black line through it with a marks alot. (Actually it has something to do with the ultra small size of the reaction. It helps the iodine break down more rapidly, or some shit like that.)

I understand your time constraints, but a wet reaction with low temps and long duration are relatively safe to leave unattended for quite a few hours. Hell, I read a story about a guy (it was far from his first batch though) who set the heat, waited until a reflux was established and left it unattended for 36 hours. He is definitely a credible source and it's true, it's not going anywhere. You gotta stay with it until the temp stabilizes. You are looking for........I don't fuckin' know......some pretty decent bubbling......say........3/4ths of the surface area covered with lots of little bubbles. (I know, it's lame, but then again, every notebook entry that has to do with short hot has a disappointing ending. I really don't want to see it happen to ya when you get your cherry popped. You need a festive, joyous occasion.

OK, that's over the top. Settle down. Breathe, breathe.....I'm alright now.

Of course, I can understand your apprehensiveness and would probably feel the same way.

Rule of thumb--

There is no such thing as too much RP. It's like having too many parking attendants on prom night. You may have some of them standing around, but you'll always have one there when a car comes up.

Too much iodine isn't going to be that big of a deal. I guess it can if you've never done an A/B though. Split the difference and go with a ratio of 2.25:1

From a reaction scheme point of view, water is absolutely necessary. It is the Hydro part of hydriotic acid, which is what will be reducing "cold" remedy to "whatever ails ya" remedy.

Holy shit!!! Deja Vue. I have been in this same situation before. Sorry, I can't see how it turned out.

Anyway, If you feel you must short change the water, then go with at least 0.5 ml. per g.of pseudo.

Shooter says he just did the shorty with very favorable results. You may want to see what he has to say on the subject.

Please report your results and take your time with the post reaction workup. There is absolutely no reason to rush as far as the reaction fluid is concerned. Nothing will happen to it if it sits for a while. If you need clarification, ask BEFORE you you slam the accelerator to the floor and go banzai into the fog. I'm sure that someone will be here that can guide ya through an A/B.

Swigotta does his post reaction a way that is incredibly simple, but it makes some of these guys buttholes pucker when they hear all the steps he leaves out.

Oh well, the words of a wicked, wicked dude were--

everybody has to find their own way.......or some shit like that.

Consider the reaction in every decision and the meth gods will be pleased.

oh and in SWIM`s opinion the ratio should be 1 gram E /1 gram RP /1.2 gram of DRY I2 crystals. 1.5 grams of I2 is usually only if they are not totally dry but then the amount of DH2O is reduced. i assume your I2 is bone dry. SWIM just dreamed a rxn a few days ago that went very well and is almost a carbon copy of what you propose. heres what he did:

1gE/1gRP/1.2gI2/0.7ml DH2O. cook was 6 hours

others may know better and hopefully they will say before you start however if not SWIM knows that this will work as its always worked for him all the way up to just 3 days ago. he does like the longer cooler cook but sometimes that just not an option and it will be better than most of the cut shit or cat masquerading as meth that you can buy on the street. good luck, may the force be with you lol

Wicked, Gotta,

Thanks for the tips. I'll let you know how it goes. It's good to know that the post reaction can sit; I'm still a little shaky on the A/B. When the RXN is done I'll be back for some more tips.

Thanks again. I know I asked a lot of stupid questions when I first started logging on here. I didn't really have an appreciation for the amount of work that goes in to this. Swim must admit though, it is an interesting hobby. Swim must have spent about 8 hours straight toiling with this shit the other day, and swim never got bored once. He would have kept going, if his girlfriend hadn't kept bitching about how he wasn't paying any attention to her.

yes the rxn fluid can set. in theory it can set forever. however it is my opinion that the balloon and hose should remain sealed to the flask untill ready for workup. dont break the integrity of the seal untill you are ready to a/b. sure many may say it dont matter blah blah blah. but it dont cost anything to leave it sealed.

I don't even know who the hell I'm talking to anymore. Of course you know who you are JJ, but it always sounds rude when someone gets your name wrong when they are talking to you. I apologize. And leaving the flask sealed will preserve the integrity of its contents. Just make sure that damn thing can't suck back into the flask, because it will. Found another mistake. 1/2 to 3/4 inch of oil, not 3 or 4 friggin inches.

OK Vegas--

I went back and read the entire thread and found a few more things you may want to consider. (As if you don't have enough already.)

First, it never occured to me how problematic working with a hot plate can be. Never had to use one. Three things that are NECESSITIES, not luxuries:

heating mantle with controller (variac is fine)

condenser (preferrably allihn 6 or 7 bulb)

500ml. separatory funnel with teflon stopcock

Well...make it 4 things becauce you need a real round bottom single neck 24/40 ground glass fitted flask.

I know it has already been said, but you need to go right now and get some kind of idea what the calibration is on that hotplate. Do exactly these things

A candy thermometer and a sauce pan is ghetto as hell, but acceptable. MAKE SURE YOU MAKE BOTH OF THEM YOURS.

Whatever oil you choose, USE THE SAME KIND AND BRAND EVERY TIME.

Put the 3 or 4 inches of oil in the pan. Make a measuring stick out of an ink pen casing or something and mark the depth of the oil. YOU GUESSED IT. MAKE IT EXACTLY THE SAME DEPTH EACH TIME.

Attach the candy thermometer in a way that it is a) secure b)you can read the damn thing c)it is at least a pointer finger away from any wall or bottom of pan. MARK THE PAN AND PUT IT THERE......well, you know.

USING EVERYTHING EXACTLY THE SAME WAY EVERY TIME WILL GIVE YOU ONE CONSTANT TO WORK WITH--ACCURACY. WITH EXPERIENCE, IT WILL BECOME MORE IMPORTANT THAN PRECISION.

Now, pick an arbitrary starting point. Lets say 5. Let it sit on that for 30 minutes and don't alter anything. (door open or closed, a/c on or off, etc.) Now, start writin shit down 5 temp, 5 1/2, 30 min., temp and on and on. You want to know 85C, 90C, 95C, and 100C. If you want to join the barbeque club, then also mark 110C and 125C. Swigotta's golden numbers are 85 and 90.

Curb's mega iodine is for insurance purposes. Too much iodine will only make for a messier post rxn. Too little and no reaction.(no 57%, no reduction) Read about resubliming the iodine. It's as easy as a large pyrex custard dish with a mini pie plate on top with the edges taped with electrical tape and sittin on your computer monitor. Even resublimed iodine will fuck with your mucas membranes. (worse even)

One more thing. A good condenser with access to tap water, is a stinkerator. I can walk down the stairs and straight over to the heating area and never smell; anything more than that smell of heat or something heating or SOME SHIT LIKE THAT.

HOLY SHIT!!!!

I almost forgot the most important thing. Do not gas your first batch. Titrate it with hcl and water. Shake that sucker for a full 180 seconds at which time you will (if you really want to see first time sparkle)dance and chant or sing praises to the meth gods.

Don't laugh. I know someone who laughed.

That person was very sorry for doing so.........but that's another story.

You're in luck. The gods are pleased so far.
