Scaling up Curbs nano: A few Q's.
SwiM was wondering. If using;
3.0g pfed
3.5g RP
5.0g I2
2.0 ml d-H20
for Curbs Nano, does EVERYTHING else need to be doubled?
40ml of d-H20 instead of 20ml?
100ml lighter fluid instead of 50 ml?
Would 16 grams of NaOh in 40ml of d-H20 be used, instead of 8g in 20 ml?
8 drops of HCL instead of 4?
Thanks.

Re: Scaling up Curbs nano: A few Q's.
No. Don't look at it like that. Instead look at what each thing is for.
The basic 4--
E=1.0
RP=0.7 for batches over about 10g. or so and 1.0 for smaller ones.
I= 1.2-1.5 depending on quality. Resublimed takes less. Same as above for bigger batches.
DH2O= E even less for bigger batches.
As for the other stuff--
Post reaction dilution should be 5X the volume of the reaction fluid.
NaOh should be a 20% solution. If you weigh out 10 g. of NaOH, you will add 40mls. of DH2O.
The dilutions aren't critical. The ratios are.
Try not to use lighter fluid if at all possible.
When titrating, Swigotta pours some muriatic in a small jar. Oh, about a splash and a half. He then fills the jar with DH2O. Stir. Now pour some in with the non polar goodie funnel. shake, shake, shake. No measuring, no pH checking. Too little, just do it again. The plate will be full of good clean fun. Too much, there is some hcl to wash out of the stuff in the plate. No harm done.

Re: Scaling up Curbs nano: A few Q's.
Very informative answer. Thanks Gotta.
Where you say that d-H2O = E, SwiM saw in an earlier post of yours that 0.7ml of d-H2O was used per gram of E. He says he's used that ratio successfully. He assumes that's ok?
He's going for a 24hr at 90c.
Thanks again.

Re: Scaling up Curbs nano: A few Q's.
Yeah, I had been reading a lot of the geezers stuff at that time and usually what the geez says, goes. As I read more, it appears that those batches are a little more than nano size.
The difference between handling and working up a nano (<12g.) and an ounce or two is like day and night. The bigger batches are so much easier to work with.
So, when you get to the point where you feel confident with your nano skills, moving up will be easy.
