Sorry for yet another iodine question. Searched thru posts and unable to find answer. Anyway I attempted the I2 procedure using 2% Iodine, 2.4% Sodium Iodide, 47% Alcohol and purified water. Was just testing (since its cheap) to see what would happen so only did a small amount. Process included 60ml I, 15ml HCL, 30ml h202 and 120ml of DH20. Added in order >tinc, dh20, h202, then the hcl. Stirred a bit then let sit for about 3 1/2 hours. Decanted of liquid and was left with mush with the definate appearance of crystal sparkles. Then put in corner of pillowcase and placed that in a funnel and washed with DH20. Finally ringed as dry as I could, set what was yielded on clean coffee filter, placed in jar to dry. Anyway time to backtrack, from reading post I thought when I tried this I would actually end up with crystals at the bottom not a mush? My final yield after cleaning with DH20 was extremely minimal (really not enough worth saving). So is there something in the process I did wrong or were my precursor measurements incorrect?

you should try always adding your hcl first

then water and then h202.

hcl acts to denaturize the alcohol restraining it from dissolving the I2 to mush like that. your h202 is an oxidant(oxidizer) the h202 should be added before the water I think,I don't know Ive never tried it, but the oxidizing factor of h202 will turn iodide into iodine. add it before water, but after the hcl, right.
