how do I know if my crystals are clean?
Swim did his first pseudo extraction last night, and he isnt sure whether the crystals are clean or not. When he picks them up and rubs them between his fingers, it leaves a greasy feeling on his fingers. This makes Swim think that some gaak might have gotten through but then, swim isnt really sure because this is his first attempt and he doesnt really know what hes looking for. Contrary to the pseudo, the left over pill mass is very chalky, and leaves no greasy residue on swims fingers.
Swim did an egull extraction on the pills, and followed the instructions to the letter, except that he had to substitute methanol for denatured alcohol, as that was all he could find.
The pills, white 60s, contained no pov or peg. They did contain Microcrystalline Cellulose, Lactose, Starch, and Sodium Starch glycolate
Swim was able to pull about 4 grams of pseudo from 100 of the white 60s. The crystals are hard, and chop up with a card, and only really take on the greasy characteristic when swim rubs them between his fingers.
The reason Swim chose the E gull is that hes trying to avoid boiling any solvents. Swim lives in a small apartment with his girlfriend, and shell hit the ceiling if swim boils any solvents in the apartment. Also, the ventilation isnt the greatest, and swim is worried about asphyxiating the animals.
So the question here is, are swims crystals clean? If not, how can he further clean the crystals, while avoiding a solvent boil? Swim considered redissolving the crystals in methanol, and then chilling the solution in the freezer until it is almost frozen, and then passing it through a charmin filter and reevaporating, because he read somewhere that some polymers are soluble at room temperature but come out at cooler temps. Would this do anything, or is it a waste of time?
Sorry for the long post.

Re: how do I know if my crystals are clean?
dont be sorry for the long post mate--they give us something to get our teeth into--you offer us constructive thought--rather than repetitive literation of recipes---that greasy feeling sounds like the oil from a glucose based additive---there is no problems substituting alcohol for methanol, they both work fine--and if your pulling 4 grams from 6 grams your running at 66% which is excellent for a first off extraction---if you freeze the extraction solvent(methanol or alcohol) then the lactose will solidify at 0c and can then be filtered out--polymers are more of a glue helping to cleave the eph molecule to the starch(pill base) molecule---and there a cocksucker to uncleave without heat--if yourve got visual crystals--then run with them--reduce it---youll still get a fine product--as far as fixing it goes----without heat--recrystalization will purify it---some acetone in the recrystalization solvent helps--and glucoten, without heat to get that oil to expand and be absorbed by the solvent--difficult-----perhaps allow to sit in toluene and get the oil to the surface then get it off with paper towels--lets see if anyone else has thoughts on this--good luck

Re: how do I know if my crystals are clean?
Kirby, you said that it would be alright to go ahead with a reduction using this product. How will the greasiness of the pseudo affect the final product?
Locating solvents has also proven to be a problem up here in the great white north. That was another thing that turned swim on to the Egull he was able to find everything he needed without much trouble. Swim has been to various paint and hardware stores, and they all have the same basic group of solvents methanol, pure turpentine, petroleum distillates, mineral spirits, and acetone. There are many solvent cocktails that contain mixtures of the solvents that are often discussed here, but Swim has been unable to find toluene, or xylene, or even naptha on its own.
What should clean pseudo HCL look like? When the plate was done evaporating, swim held it up in front of a light and it looked kind of like a frozen window in the winter, with ice like crystals pointing in every direction. When he scraped the crystals into a pile, they took on a white, crystalline appearance. Only when swim feels the crystals between his fingers does he notice the greasiness.
Kirby, when you say recrystallise with acetone in the solution, do you mean swim should mix a little acetone with his methanol, redissolve the crystals, and then evaporate again?

Re: how do I know if my crystals are clean?
Swigotta was perplexed by the same thing early on. What the hell am I looking for?
He has seen many different forms of both Mr. Pfers and meth. You are looking for long pin shaped crystals that are clear in clarity and clear to opaque in color. They will be dry and "clink" when poured into a pile. This is usually achieved using a dual solvent technique, which I am unsure of when no heating is desired.
The rp/i is forgiving when it comes to impurities. Long, slow, and cool reflux will always work better for slightly impure precursors.
The methanol is something Swigotta has avoided. He believes it pulls those "specialty" gaaks of todays modern pill formulations. Denatured is probably better. Your idea of freezing and filtering sounds good. When using charmin filters, take extra time to fold and fit the plug using an anal retentive approach. It will pay off in the end.

Re: how do I know if my crystals are clean?
im not a whiz on the rp/i reduction so run with what gogo says--ive never known him to give bad advice--its always intelligent and well thought out---with birching --when reduced, the meth kicks into the hexane leaving the crap behind---Forming crystals using freezer:dissolve your eph into methanol(about350mls per ounce) and warm on hotplate--evaporate off slowly----when you see the first scale/film appear on the surface of the methanol, remove from hotplate and add 25ml of methanol and 10ml of acetone---allow to cool--then place in fridge for 1 hour---then into freezer for 3 hours--you will see that perfect crystals have formed leaving behind the residual methanol and acetone--add 50ml of methanol--reheat till scale appears -add 15ml of methanol and 5 ml of acetone and allow to cool/fridge/freezer--keep redoing till now more crystals form---this method works with eph before reduction and meth after reduction forming beautifull clean crystals--just remember the slower you bring the methanol to freezing the larger the crystals are--to quick and there more a shard crystal than the desired long oblong shaped ones---by adding the acetone it kicks the shit into it---good luck
