Re: AMMONIUM THIOCYANATE
its used in photograhy as a gold toner. it sells for about 20 cents a gram so if you have a half pound its worth 44.80
it has a shelf life of one year and is non-hazardous.
Molecular formula: CH4N2S
Melting point: 152 - 154 C
Stability:
Stable. Incompatible with strong acids, strong oxidizing agents. Forms explosive mixtures with lead nitrate.
Toxicology:
Harmful if swallowed, inhaled or absorbed through the skin. Eye, skin and respiratory irritant.
Personal protection: Safety glasses.
Wear suitable protective clothing. Keep container tightly closed and store in a cool, dry place. Avoid contact with the eyes, skin, and respiratory system. Wear safety glasses and rubber gloves. Wash thoroughly after handling as the compound may cause skin eruptions. May be harmful if inhaled or swallowed.
First Aid: If contact is made with eyes or skin, flush immediatly with plenty of water. Call a physician about eye and skin irritations. If swallowed call a physician at once.
Other names: Ammonium sulfocyanate; ammonium sulphocyanate; ammonium sulfocanide; ammonium sulphocyanide; ammonium rhodanide.
Description: The colorless crystals are stable but readily absorb enough water from the air to become wet. The compound is available as a solid of 98 to 99% purity but often sold as a 55 to 60% solution in water to avoid the uncertainties of the absorption of water.

Re: AMMONIUM THIOCYANATE

Re: AMMONIUM THIOCYANATE
try posting this in backyard ballistics if you are interested in the theoretical making of explosives.
your friend has greatly exaggerated the toxicity of this substance. in laymans terms... your friend is full of shit.
you might also try paying more attention to the answers people go to the trouble of posting to your question. in the 8th line of my post it clearly states that ammonium thiocyanate will form explosive compounds when mixed with lead nitrate. i would suggest you do some serious research and dont skim over the shit but read it WELL so you dont blow your fuckin hands off.

My freind is usually full of shit...but about the explosive, i meant to say that i also read that somewhere else, but i was wondering just about the actual explosive formed.
