In what state or country?
Where I live, if I needed iodine for a cut or an abrasion, it can be purchased from the local grocery store(major retail chain in U.S.- ryhmes with Jon's) in 30 ml bottles for $1.29, which "SWIL: The Crazed Otter" says can yield about 1 gram of purified I2 crystals with good technique.

P.S. SWIL used to clean horse stalls for a living, and says that he knows what a good, tasty "Horse Apple" looks like. But aside from that, he learned that iodine is used to prevent infection in a horse's hooves, like the kind they get from standing in a mukky stall.
