SwiM says that after 1hr of curbs nano at 90c the rxn still hadn't taken off so he removed the balloon & chucked in another 0.3g of I2, which seemed to help.

He's just wondering if this would have affected yield at all? Is it ok to remove the balloon to try to correct mistakes?

He used:

1.1g pfed

1.2g rp

1.8g I2

Going for a 16hr cook.

Switrd was wondering the same thing. About taking the balloon off.

As long as it is for very short periods of time.

Often, instead of taking the balloon off, SWIL will use a ziplock bag as a balloon, and by the end of the reaction it will have tape everywhere. Usually SWIL will need to add water, or maybe even get bored and want to test his HI on some steel.

Only leave the balloon off very shortly, 30-60 seconds probably max.

Hey Lukky... you said something about testing your HI on some steel?? How exactly does one go about this?? And what do you look for?? What is good...what is bad...ya know... It sounds pretty straight forward but wanting just wanting to iron out any details that are troubling Swirh... Every little tip is helpful...

HI is one of the most powerful acids known to man. In fact, it is so strong that it has been deemed "No Commercial Use".

It will eat through stainless steel. SWIL just takes a small pocket knife, and sticks that into the rxn. He allows some HI to get on the blade, and then watches to see how much the blade smokes. The more, the better, usually.

It will leave a black spot on the metal. The harder it is to "sharpen" the spot off, the stronger the HI was.

While reading your thread, I got an idea! Why not put a piece of duct tape on the balloon, use a syringe to add extra ingredients, then put another piece of tape over the hole?

Balloon will pop.

not to mention how cool you will look trying to get I2 or RP thru a syringe. a three neck flask comes to mind for adding later ingrediants. the ghetto way would maybe be a 1/2 inch PVC Y shoved thru stopper with one side capped off untill its time to add. the shape of the Y in this text should be visualy self explanatory. look at it, do you see Y it will work?

also a 3 inch long piece of 1/2 inch ID tubing on the side where the shit is to be added later helps. you can plug it and when its time for additions have all your shit weighed measured and ready to go in. unplug the piece of short tubing quickly stick a smallish funnel in the tube dump your shit in pull out the funnel and plug it again quickly. just a few theorys from a rambling mind lol

WITH THE IODINE TINCTURE REDUCTION WILL I GET MORE I2 IF I HEAT IT LONGER OR WILL THE YEILD STAY THE SAME?

What is SWIK referring to? Collecting I2 crystals? or reducing phed to meth by way of RP/I?

referring to I2 extraction from tincture. where can you get iodine tincture higher than 2%. Have tried curbshot result not so good. not even get back 25%. With long or short. Went to farm and fleet for 7% tincture no go.
