STE failure/question?
Hey guys...what is happening? Hope everyone is having a good July...Swirh has been busier than a one-legged man at a butt-kicking contest hehe (little movie quote from Dolly for ya Gotta). Went over to Swirh's house the other day and he had some disturbing news...Somewhat of a learning experience. StraightShooter was speaking of a brown disturbance in the honey the other day... Well, as fate would have it...Swirh has just experienced his first occurrance of this phenomenon.
<The basic setup of 60 STE>
Upon closer inspection of Swirh's notes though...it has been discovered that using a STE method something that has already been addressed but not as per exactly what to look for... Swirh used the STE on some white 60's with (8 boxes) anti(histamine that is). He had enough 99%alky for 4 then used 91% for the other four... He was combining all 8 together for the nap/alky boil. He decided to utilize the wisdom of the tripeG (gottagogo)...and do the xyl separately.
<Describing how the 60 STE progressed>
While waiting for the temp to rise to 105...Swirh noticed that precipitation occured at a much lower temp (say around 70-80 or so...he can't remember that and did not write the exact temp in his notes--he has been scolded for improper stenography--which coincidently was retorted with an offer of a sexual act of some sort hehe). This looked like what it was supposed to at first look cept for the lower temp. Then everything got MUCH thicker with little temp rise (about 85-95C)...with very little increase in temp... Swirh had experienced something like this b4 in the 120's but had attributed it to a writeup that mentioned a possible pill skin that had something to foil things up.
<Describing similarities in botched 120 STE and 60 STE>
When the 120's were going...the temp finally reached 105 after almost all of the liquid had boiled away and there was almost a solid mass (not hard but mushy mass) left. Also... when the nap was boiling (or whatever it was) the mist coming off was much denser--foglike almost completely white... Now...Swirh did not want to repeat this... and he noticed the steam was getting somewhat thick--like the 120's. He pulled everything off the heat and filtered... He did the xyl with more xyl than called for in STE (see above) and everything looked an ever so slight yellowish color...the MEK turned everything bright white...Anyhow... the ending looked pretty good and he decided to go ahead and proceed...
<Point at which rxn is finished and resulting appearance of said rxn as well as what occured with post rxn followup>
Then a lot of fuzzy bubbly brown crap on the interface--concentrated in the middle of the vortex of the tornado after stirring... First pull was not as expected but everything looked good...yield just lacked...When Swirh added more NP and stirred... This time the brown crap covered almost the whole interface with about three dime-sized spots that were clean...Yield lacked again...And addition of third NP and stirring caused Swirh's heart to drop...The honey turned a dark brown and settled with very dark sludge looking layer on bottom...
<Pondering possible causes of post rxn appearance>
It was suggested to Swirh that the incomplete drying of solvents activated the Dry Matrix thus causing the prec/temp and excessive "bloating" during nap/alky phase... Then it was learned that Swirh used the E straight after the MEK wash...He was advised to use a crystallization after STE (to which was replied with some more expletives in the form of a sexual offer and a comment about my mother not being married at the time of my birth)...
<Swirh's questions on different aspects of post>
The question(s) here are: What (if any) steps can be performed on the honey to maximize yield of whatever is useful??
If nothing can be done to the honey...is the I2 still recoverable...and if so...can it safely be added to other honeys for a mass processing of I2?
Should the solvents not be dry (for whatever reason---everyone is human and can have a brain fart ya know) Can this pseudo be saved? If so...what are some methods that will work (Might even entertain a lawn mower engine and grommetted doubled tube sock for added saftey, hehe---small joke please disregard this...).
This particular experience has made Swirh ponder the feasibility of a straight STE use...He said that he never has not had any problems with the 60's (but he did say that it was the first time to use the 91%). Does anyone else think that this is a feasible way of going? Are there any drawbacks to using straight STE?
Anyhow...Hope someone can help out without having to reinvent the wheel ya know? OH, Great Oysters Of Knowledge...Squeeze Swirh A Pearl Of Wisdom...(maybe two hehe) Peace all...
Edited for clarification of some confusing areas

Re: STE failure/question?
Without bein a smart arse you kinda lost me.it sounded like when you added your pills and naptha&iso mix you let them burn to the bottom of vessel.you only need to boil for a couple of minutes with pills powderized.and yes your solvents have to be dry.and 91%alky works fine if dried right.so far the ste method in my opinion is the easyist extraction out there and it also pays the biggest dividends yield wise. you wont find a simpler method.i didnt understand what you ment by the expletives about a member of your family.if someone was saying that about you to you.well im surprised cause for the most part the type of people the frequent this site are pretty decent thats why i hang here now.if you really want to get your feelings hurt go ask the same question you just asked on the hive.but heres a pearl for you!start over get all the instructions for the ste method, there really arent that many.study them good, no your terminology so if you have to ask for help we will be able to at the very least understand you, so we can assist you.theres alot of people on this site qualified to answer your questions but not if they cant understand what your talkin about.so start over,study,pratice,and if you then need help ill bee there for you.Peace out!

Re: STE failure/question?
Thanx for the critique MG...sometimes Swirh gets somewhat gushing in his writing and things do not translate into words as well as they seem to come out... Thought that everything was pretty well understandable... So I will try to make ammends here and extrapolate upon my post...
Swirh had been explaining/questioning about a STE extraction with H2O probs as well as the resulting post rxn problems... He was explaining the difference in a "normal" (in his experience) STE and one that resembled a STE done with some 120's. Think it was Geez that had mentioned something about the STE and 120's with the pill skin (can't remember verbatim) that may have botched the STE. He stated that he was going to utilize one of Gotta's recommedations about doing a separate Xyl cleaning with more Xyl. That part may have seemed somewhat fuzzy (looks all right to Swirh but he thinks weird anyhow).
The point in the STE where the Nap/alky are heated is where the differences are. The nice white crystals start forming but at a much lower temp. And much more of them also. And the temp does not rise like the normal STE's that Swirh has witnessed. It took much longer than normal for the temp to rise in the 120 STE and was, in Swirh's opinion; in fact burning by 105 as all the liquid had boiled away. In the 60's STE, Swirh's friend had pulled this before this had happened...As far as the expletives...Swirh was trying to be cute and basically say that when the friend was told to take better notes...He simply said "Fuck you or Fuck you--you bastard". This came in no way from any person(s) at this site...(Swirh thought that was pretty clear also--but gonna clear that up anyhow). It came from the friend that Swirh is trying to help...
Then the whole thing jumps (this is Swirh's fault and sees his error in this) to the post rxn three layer and the resulting interface and what had appeared...
One of Swirh's questions also came about from the learning of the fact that this particular friend uses straight STE psuedo...which another of Swirh's friends does not--he like to recrystallize...Swirh was somewhat curious if this was an advisable practice.
The other questions are all pretty straight forward Swirh thought and were pertaining to what if something like this possibly ever happened again--and what to would be the best recourses. Also one was about the safety of mixing the I2 of post rxn with other post rxn I2's...
But...any help/suggestions that MG can give Swirh will be preciated greatly and like Swirh said--he gets to going 90 to nothin sometime and maybe things do not come out right...

Re: STE failure/question?
muocho better.when your boilin yer pills in naptha and dry alky you want to have some liquid left in there dont boil it all the way down cuz thats where your goods are gonna bee.it wont take long for your pills to boil so keep a close eye on them and keep stiring em up.then pour your naptha alky fluid threw filter,then repeat what you just did twice.then add yer xyloul to naptha and alky fluid boil all three or these when the alky boils out your goods will appear then pour threw filter paper and rinse generously with mek. tone will work ok if need bee.the reason the write up calls for mek is because you wont loose any pseudo rinsing of with mek and the guy that invented this method is a perfectionist who hates to loose the smallest amount of yield.which is a good thing.you shouldnt have much trouble with the 120's ive tried them it came out ok,i actualy got a better yield with the 120's then the 30 mg red hots.you can do another cleaning after the ste if you like ive been just reactin my pseudo right after the ste with no probs.when its dry and ready to go.dont forget to foil test it.you should do this no matter how clean your pseudo may be.one other thing you might wanna try is before you bring yer pills to a boil try lettin em sit in yer naptha and alky solution for about 15 0r 20 minutes then stir em up and start yer boil and remember dont boil all the fluid off.cuz the goods are in the FLUID.if yer still havin probs you can email me if youd like,Peace out

Re: STE failure/question?
Ok...MG...let's drop back and punt here...
Swirh was asking specifically about the incomplete drying of the alky/nap...and the resulting temp variances that differed from all the other STEs Swirh's friend had performed (cept the 120's).
Swirh is capable of reading instructions and knows how to do the STE. He knows that the goodies are in the liquid. He knows to watch the process and about the three pulls yada yada yada... But the basic questions were not addressed. Does anyone (anyone...anyone?) have an input on this? Swirh is beginning to think that no one has experienced this here and thus the lack of response. Swirh performs the STE "jus like da man says" but Swirh's friend was not as diligent and thus the problems. Swirh would like to know (for posterity's sake) an post-answer solution for this problem should he ever encounter it again.
The other questions relate to post rxn resulting from the mishap and what would be the most effective route to follow. As said--Swirh does not need the info...merely trying to help a friend that has f**ked up and wants to minimize loss. Swirh sure can appreciate this and is trying to help out friend.
So...Swirh hopes that someone has experienced this (well actually not--but if they have) and can shed some insight as to their experiences. Peace...

Re: STE failure/question?
Hey MG...man dunno...<shakes his head> Damn...got Swirh rereading his shit trying to figure what he was confusing about...As far as known...Swirh thought he was pretty straight forward and was asking info of anyone that had experienced this...
Somehow you have perverted this post into you spoonfeeding?? Swirh about the STE when he had described the STE from his first post...and explained some issues with it and was wondering about some help a buddy, save what could be, fix it if possible type scenario. He thought the other questions had merit too. So, Swirh is sorry if MG took some sort of offense to Swirh's minute detail breakdown of what he thought was self-explanatory...He did not/still doesn't know how to explain it any further without specific questions about the confusing parts... As stated...thought the questions were understandable...
Swirh does agree with the fact that this is a great bunch of guys here...and Swirh will admit at a moment's notice that he does not know JACK...but he is logical, semi-intelligent, and trys to eliminate unknowns one at a time when trying to solve a problem. And if he can be of help with a question that someone has done some obvious work on...or he knows any helpful detail (tho it sometimes may be off subject) he will throw it...
But explaining a process that Swirh acknowledged had issues with (and suggested a possible cause for the problem) is not answering the questions asked by Swirh and in Swirh's humble opinion--do not constitute "spoonfeeding". Crazy man crazy...But all that being said....If anyone wants to call it "spoonfeeding" and it is a plausible answer to my question(s)...by all means spoonfeed the hell out of me... But that is to the questions that Swirh asked...
To sum up...Swirh was not 100% at the time of the post...and prob is not 100% at this time (about 100% certain about that). And sometimes Swirh gets overzealous with confusing flowing facts... But MG...Swirh thinks per chance this was a communication failure...Noticed the "arse" in your post...somewhat indicative of non-American person?? Call it a wild guess. Maybe something lost/twisted in conversion there that caused the confusion. Dunno. (I was supposed to be summing up right?) Anywho, Swirh is gonna chalk this one up to say...crossed wires or sumptin... So...that being said...Peace...
