over doing with acid
swil is wandering when doing the post reation work up if swil uses too much 20% lye/water solution and get the ph too high and then goes ahead with titration and get the ph of 6-7 will this produce salt?
Swil has been reading @ the hive and trying to figure out what swil was doing wrong before.

Re: over doing with acid
Swis started out cooking red cabbage to make ph strips, then started using acid/base strips numbering 1-14. Had best results with
electronic ph meter. No guess work, take the ph up to 13 or 14, then back down to 6 or 7
on the money. Look around on the web, they're
not that expensive!

Re: over doing with acid
swil has litmus paper with a chart that goes to 14 but swil thinks that the first time swil added lye/water it was too much. therefore making the ph go higher than 14

Re: over doing with acid
swinc has test strips that tests for chlorine, ph and total alkalinity. are these the correct strips to use? (looking into the litmus strips that swinc has read about!).
by the way, where has everyone been???

SALT!? Wahhht? If your rxn was complete
and proper up until the basing/acidifying
steps then try this, basify post rxn
to 12 or 13, then after adding a non-polar
solution,swirl but let this dual-layered
freebasing step sit there for say 1 hour, then, seperate the non-polar layer into another jar(clean/freebase) and acidify your
water to 6 maybe even try 5, the farther
apart in PH the two solutions reside the more
attraction occurs. BTo the Beggining, your
SALT was remnants of lye. You brought your PH
from 14 to 7. In order for your goods to
be moved into the water layer the water layer needs to be at a ph of 6 not 7.
Your mid-drift meth never became water soluable, so when you evaporated your water
you were left with any witch one impurity
EXCEPT meth that was water soluble, namely
Hydrochloric acid, and Sodium Hydroxide, just
to name a few, any ways, try giving solutions
time to sit also ph'ing to 13 then 6. ok.

PH is the Power of Hydrogen,
just thought you might like to know that also.

Re: over doing with acid
ok, you guys are making it way harder than it is. First, frog is right. Anybody who understood this and said, "Oh, yeah! Now I get it.", raise your hand........That's what I thought. What frog is telling you is what you do if you want to play by the rules. You don't have to though.
I never thought about basing by smell, but basing by color isn't too difficult. Of course, pH strips for confirmation isn't a bad idea. You can base the shit out of it and still be ok. Go ahead anyway, pull off the np, and throw in your acid water. Ph doesn't really matter when titrating. If you undershoot, you only get some of the meth converted, which means everything in the plate is good. If you overshoot, you end up with some hcl in your plate. Remember this--
Salt is not soluble in alcohol. Acetone will clean out almost any crap, including the excess hcl.
So don't worry so much. When you get down to the dried stuff in the plate, finish up the way Swigotta told me to tell you. It was just a couple of weeks ago. Dual solvent by MASAHED.(you da man, masa) Sure there are cleaner, better, more accurate ways of doin it, but the easy way will get you to the same end result. I guarantee it.

Re: over doing with acid
Greetings yall, DOMI had much trouble in this area also...so he slowed things down and concentrated on A/B and less on crystal dreams.DOMI had seen several colorful guides but in contrasting AtoB ends,he got 2 colors of "strips", layed out lines of each and started with NAOH on one end and 31.45%HCI on the other. DOMI used DH2O and with measured increments he A/B'ed to the middle, probably elementry and a laughing joke to those in the "know" but for DOMI it was enlightening and provided him a colorful chart all his own! BUT..he,just like "STILLBILL" said earlier, surfed across the PHED{ HANNA INSTRUMENTS}meter, 0 to 14 metering, temprature sensative and very accurate...$35.95+ shipping...this art is a struggle to grasps for some like DOMI, he's not stupid, just ignorant until properly educated! If he can buy a lil' help from modern technology he will..HEHEHE! MANY happy dreams!

Re: over doing with acid
OOOOPS..Almost forgot! Props to you "MASA" YOUDA MASA! Your dueling duo for recrystalizing is right on and was easily followed by the novice DOMI. Much easier and strait fwd than the "METHHEAD" version, which I'm sure is excellent, just harder for newb. MASA, I appologize for not giving proper due to your thread when I rambled thru it in another post, DOMI is slow and plodding at the keys, his mind tends to run off and leave his sloooow ass hands behind as in this case. NO disrespect intended just dumbass newb oversight, hope no offense was taken....again, thankyou all for the great postings! MANY happy dreams!

Dude, I think you've confused my username with gottas advice...cool! Hehe.
I only asked the Q on the dual-solv, I didn't actually answer it... Obviously!
