Default STE question?

Hey guys...Swirh finally decided to nut up and try the new VE method...with some mixed results... The white 60's worked like a dream...did just like the man stated but when Swirh tried the tombstone 120's...(that all they had and better them than a wasted trip ya know?)...things did not fare as well. Has anyone tried these gakky suckers?? Swirh did just like tha man said...<Geez> but when filtering off the three pulls nocticed something collecting on bottom of filter and funnel tip. Swirh can best describe this as a foamy-like greasyish chalk something. Swirh did not like the stuff to say the least.

Went ahead and when bringing to 105 noticed a big difference. Temp took forever to rise and when it finally did it had boiled off most all the liquid! Yeah the Naptha had boiled off too. Now I don't know what exactly could have went wrong here.. As Swirh said the white 60's worked like a dream. Swirh did add some more Nap and touch of Xylene (just eyeballed that--didn't figure that would hurt at this point) Brought this back to temp...while stirring with rod (anyone know where to get a good ointment--ouch!) and filtered and MEK rinsed. Swirh didn't like the experience with these big ones..Prob gonna do some more cleaning up (maybe a Tetra as well as some Tolly and/or Tone boils). Anyone got any ideas as to why just about ALL the liquid boiled out bringing to temp. Everything the exact same cept the stock...Thought Swirh could get some good feedback...

Oh yeah...jus saw a thread with the guaf question...but while at it...Pikk--did you ever get a heads up on if the STE takes care of that? Thanks all in advance...Peace

Default Re: STE question?

this is what i was told about it so here it goes. hope it helps

since you extract the pseudo by precipitating it out of the non-polar, what stays in the filter should be pseudo HCl only...but the guffy won't dissolve in naptha...perhaps the xylene. Try it and see. You will know if the method works because if doesn;t you will have a gooey mess.

then a/b it and use naptha as the non-polar solvent.
