If someone wanted to start making thier own ice . . . how would they get started? Recipes and setup?

You know red, I'm glad you asked. I promised somebody I wouldn't post anything else (well, you know, lengthy stuff) until I ran their particular case by swigotta and let that (thats ok, I won't say) intense, cranky guy show me where to find the right notebook for this individuals needs.

BUT...

Let me do just this one.

Ice has been one of my favorite recipes for..well, since I was a kid. Even then, my friends and I had our own lab setup, so I can probably help you there too. I'm stuck babysitting until the wife comes back, so lets kill a little time and get to it.

When it comes to good ice, temperature is absolutely vital. If the temp is too high, it will ruin the whole batch. Purity is second. Your precursor material must be at the very least filteres, but I demand distilled. Call me crazy, but I think it makes a big difference in taste. You must also have the proper vessel while it sets.

Here's how it goes.

First take your distilled water and pour it into the trays. Now, I like disney shapes myself because I have a bunch of kids (meth makes you horney as hell), but feel free to experiment. Don't fill them all the way, as ice really expands. Then put them into the freezer. Be careul. You don't want to spill any. This is some good shit. Make sure the freezer is set well below 32F or 0C for best results. Leave them there for at least 6 hours. Remove them. Give the tray a twist while over a tall glass. Add tea to the glass and enjoy.

Next time we will learn how to make flavored ice. It does take some experience so try the above recipe a few times first to get the basic feel of things.

Now, if I was to boil my regular tap H2o and capture the steam, and use that captured liquid, that be as pure as distilled H2o, or pretty close?
