Default can you help me out also Acid Melt?

hi, so this is my problem and all comments are most appreciated.

after the reaction is complete, a small amopunt of distilled water was added and RP filtered out. the honey was an orangey colour and thought this would wash out with xylene washes before it was going to be basified. held this step off because many xylene washes has left the colour a slightly lighter shade of orange than what it was like to begin with.

on research, this suggests their could have been contamination of excess ioidine and to rectify this add one drop of sodium thiosulphate (sp).

is this what i am to do now? and will it clear the orange away.

much time was spent with cleaning the precursors so im not led to believe the contamination lies else where.

what do you think Acid Melt - are you able throw me any of your words of wisdom.

thanks all

It is not necessary to use the tri-sodium, but SWIL hears it will help.

The NP washes should NEVER be skipped, as this is just passing by purity.

If SWIU has the tri-sodium crystals, SWIL would suggest using one. Then do the NP rinses. Then base, and continue.

It sounds like SWIU has a decent understanding of the process, and shouldn't be worried about continuing on in his journey.

Take it slow and easy, nothing needs to be rushed here. Plan the attack, and success will follow!

Be sure and wash both sides of the A/B. So, a coupla NP washes of the acidic solution and a coupla DH2O washes of the basified solution are really quite necessary. The DH2O washes can be done by first washing with brine or salt water, then warm DH2O, then room temp. DH2O. You can even use a little lye water in the last wash. It sounds crazy, but the lye water actually helps to remove excess base (lye aka sodium hydroxide) from the basified solution. As always, keep all washes and put them all together. When you are completely finished with your extraction, combine everything into one jar, toss in a bunch of plain salt (20-30g.), put it on a little medium heat for about 30 min., loosely covered, then let it sit for about a day. Extract it again to get a little more goody.

You can also keep it longer and extract it when you're gripping cause you ran out.

P.S.

Swigotta often ends up using too much iodine (Mr. overdoer) and never seems to have a problem except when the iodine jar runs out too soon.
