Re: getting red p
1. DIAMOND brand BOX matches (approx. 3" long) About 50cents a box. Less glue, glass, etc. Better quality RP. Two(2) boxes yield about the same as one(1) box of small matchbooks. Less time & work.... Remember.... time is money!
2. Excellent Mexican connection. GOOD LUCK!
3. Federal License or know someone very well that does & that you trust with your life! GOOD LUCK!
So.. I guess what I'm saying is... OPTION 1 is your best bet.

Re: getting red p
teens--
OOPS----
SWIG just saw that you were talking about "box" not "book" matches. Monkey, the below is in reference to the D brand book matches, avoid them. Boxes he has never tried, too much cardboard, but less cutting.
SWIG's experiences, he's sorry to say, are dead opposite.
That particular brand is the worst. It has more sand and crushed glass than most and a kind of glue that forces you to scrape the stuff off one at a time. The biggest problem with them is the unknown amount of fillers that don't dissolve. This will make it very difficult to determine how much will be needed in a rxn, unless you just want to make some fireworks or something. Or if you subscribe to the way of thinking, "Hell, I'll just dump in twice as much. That oughta do it."
monkey--
Use the matchbooks from the wal and it ain't no mart. Its a mixture of blue and yellow. At this drugstore, you can buy their store brand, 50 books per box for $0.99. This stuff is smooth, and comes right off with a little 5-10 min. acetone soak followed by shaking the hell out of them for about 5 min. After the tone, hcl, H2SO4,DH2O soaks, the remaining powder will be very close to lab grade RP. Smooth and easy to powder.
You've got two ideas here, try them both. SWIG guarantees easy to obtain, easy to clean, and very few (if any) sand and glass fillers, not to mention very reactive RP for those fireworks you're working on.

Re: getting red p
Monkey's way of using "books" does work well but if you look at the "box" matches.... there are three 1/4" x 3" long strips on each box with very little glass & glue.

Re: getting red p
Go to yahoo chat and find someone from south korea india or thiland that can order kilos of ephedrine hydrochloride and red phosphorus then give them a nice tip for sending that shit into the us. I know this person that pays some chink $100 us dollars for 500g of e & 500g of rp and the chink is vary happy when he exchanges his us money for yen. Shampoo bottles are great for smuggling!

Re: getting red p
It is sold in perfessional strength drain cleaner. On name I remember it instent power drain opener. The H2SO4 is about 93% in concentration. Other brands are more concentrated. I can get 1 gallon of H2SO4 for $24.99 it used to cost me only $14.99 a gallon damn prices I guess I have to live with it.

Re: getting red p
A simple method for getting red phosphorus is simply to purchase it. It is available in bulk powder from ExChem. Price is 400 US$/kg and it is shipped via Fedex Expres. Paypal payments are accepted.
As a listed I chemical, red p requires a liscence to posses it. In Canada (here) red p is not regulated.
It is reccommended that US clients apply for a liscence from the DEA before ordering it. How ever, it is left to the client's discretion to either comply or not with the federal regulations in is country (USA).

Sorry I'll call bullshit on that the only reason that a landscaper would have redp would be because they were using their landscaping business as a front to purchase it to make meth with.

Re: getting red p
You could scrape the inside of one of those old color tv picture tubes to get RP. I've heard that it works much better than matchsticks or any other commercial form of red phosphorous that one may have access to.

Re: getting red p
I once found a 25" color tv out in the woods and blew it away with a 12guage. No red or white p, just some white powder that did not react with air.
Maybe b/w tv sets have the red phosphorus *sarcastic laugh*

Re: getting red p
How did this old thing get dragged to the top?
Anyway, Madman-- The TV thing is a myth. The inner coating is a "phosphor" coating, but not what you need for an rp/i rxn. Sorry.
adnagi-- don't mess with match tips. Don't know why, just don't. Unless, of course, you have time and money to waste.
nzweta-- If you have to scrape, you're using the wrong brand. This has all been discussed before along with writeups. Search if interested.
Oh, yeah, Starcraft-- Phosphorous is some pretty dangerous stuff. Beginners seeking rp should not mess with Yellow or white phosphorous. Matchbooks may be time consuming, but they're fun and relatively safe to work with.

Damn lukky, do you hve a computer strapped around your neck, or what? I just noticed that you've posted quite a bit to have registered in May. No wonder you're always on CH when I come home late (or early).
Boys and girls this little green munchkin ain't to shabby and he'll probably be hangin' round a lot till CH is back up. Ask them questions while ya still can.
Sorry lukky, just couldn't resist puttin ya to work. Oh, but wait, you've obviously already been working. That's what this post was supposed to be about. Dude, I really need to get some sleep.

Re: getting red p
Ok.. If it is a myth, then what the hell was I cooking and smoking between the years of 96 and 2001? I'm only saying this because I don't do it no more and I don't plan to. But yes, you have to get an old color tv, the kind your grandfather had back in the late 60's. It may not be RP, but whatever it is, it works, and the end product sells for about 1000 dollars more an ounce than the conventional anhydrous recipe. I have a few scars on both legs from where I busted a tv tube and it exploded on me. if it did'nt work, I would'nt have busted a hundred more of the damn things. But if you want to insist that it does'nt work, then ok.. It don't work. End of subject.

Re: getting red p
Madman, I dragged this back up for some other reason and saw your post. I had not read it previously.
So, tell me more about this old color tv shit. I've heard of this before and everybody who claimed this got flamed into a crispy cinder. I was intrigued, so I did a little homework and found that "red phosphor" coatings are used on the picture tubes of some older model tv's, but not the mineral we are seeking, and such a very thin layer that it is not worthwhile.
Now, you said really old. Again, I am intrigued. It would be most interesting if you could slip me a few minutes worth of details that may help me find one of these gems. Do you remember brand names, tube type, year of manufacture, style? Mostly, tell me this, where, eactly, inside the tv, was the red phosphorous found, and in what state (chunk, powder, film)?
Oh, if you had to bust hundreds of em to get enough, I'm probably shit out of luck 'cause I sincerely doubt I would find more than 1 or 2. It would be cool to find out for myself if its true or not. Seein' is believin', and believin' makes me a whole lot more authoratative. I like KNOWING what I'm talking about. Thanks for any help you may offer.

Re: getting red p
Its true that White P or yellow P is highly toxic, as much as .10grams will kill you. I donno I heard low doses it can produce a medical condition called rotting jaw, that is in which your jaw decays.

Re: getting red p
I think it was also called "Fossy-Jaw" or something like that.
There's a book about phosphorus(I think it's called something like The 13th Element) that goes into some detail about it.
