Ok I have a 93 jimmy with the higher end 4.3 that was available at the time. 4wd truck, I haven't used 4wd in I don't even know how long since I don't drive it much. Driving it the last few days I noticed it shifts really hard. When shifting into second and third it jerks, bad. I have no clue why this is, its got a brand new trans in it since the old one was blown when I got the truck. Any ideas guys? Much Appreciation.

How many miles are on the truck and the new tranny. First check the fluid level and smell and all that jazz. Just a shot in the dark but I have seen fuel filters or catalytic converters get plugged just enough so that it runs kinda wimpy. You have to give it more throttle than normal to go the same speed so the trans will shift a little later and harder than normal. Its just the first thing that came to mind. Always cover the basics first.

Its the chevy SUV (Sport utility vehicle) TrailBlazer or GMC Jimmy. Its the same truck virtually just different logos. I happen to have the gmc variant. Close to 100k miles on the truck, about 2000 on the trans, the fluids are all at the correct levels. I just put a new fuel filter in 2 months ago since it was packed solid with pure shit. The cat, what cat? Its been ripped off for ages, ive got a 'test pipe' lol, just a straight pipe from the exhaust mani to the muffler. When I floor it, it shifts even harder but if I go at a decent ascent it shifts pretty damn hard still. I can't really think of anything because i've never had this problem with any of my cars before heh. Thanks for the suggestions though.

What condition is the fluid in? How long has it been doing it? If it has a brand new or reman transmission, does it have a warranty? Could be a valve body problem, or it might just need a trans fluid change. Maybe the wrong fluid got in there somehow.

I'll drain it out and put new fluid in this weekend when I get some time. Its a new trans w/o warranty because I got it free from a friends trans shop heh.

I said it was just a shot in the dark. You might try backing the TV cable off a notch or two. Make a referance mark before you move it and don't go too far.

One tyime I had this problem, turned out that when I installed the transmission fluid filter the gasket for the filter slipped off, so the transmission wasn't getting the pressures it needed or something. Try a fluid and filter change.

Btw thats completely wrong. GMC is the flagship of GM (General motors).
They only manufacture trucks. The GMC SUV is the Jimmy (And now the Envoy is added on). Chevrolet is a seperate company but a part of GM. Their SUV is the Trail Blazer (ie. Blazer). Ever notice how an S10 and a Sonoma are pretty much identical. They are both S Frames and GM owns the rights or whatever to the S Frame and they share designs. Thats my explaination to the best of my abilities, hope that cleared some stuff up.

Re: Hard shifting jimmy
i been building racing and making a living off chevys for almost 30 years. you are saying the same thing i said just differntly, and of course ive noticed the gmc`s are same as the chevys. i own a 98 gmc 1 ton crew cab 6.5 turbo diesel and every part on it will exchange with the chevy siverado such as doors and fenders cabs bed etc, sure chevrolet makes trucks but gmc is known as there truck division it says so on a sticker in my glove box lol. i also own a 70 gmc 3/4 ton two wheel drive, a 73 chevy 3/4 ton 2 wheel drive, three 91 1ton chevy crew cabs, an 89 1 ton chevy crewcab dually. several crewcabs that i have put on ZF planetary axles with front and rear steer running on 68 inch tractor tires for gettin around the alaskan bush. a 2002 chevy 1ton dually with the 496 CI bigblock and allison automatic, a 72 gmc monster truck that i used to tour with gravedigger and undertaker and the boys. and a camaro that busts off 190 mph in the 1/4 mile with an all aluminum 540 CI big block chevrolet blown on alcohol. i built it from the ground up same as the monster truck and the bush 4x4`s and many restorations for customers as i own a driveline/machine shop and custom build/restore chevrolets. mostly 1 ton crew cabs i buy 10 or so at a time from british petroleum and arco at there auctions. they come off the north slope of prudohe bays oilfields. i take em and yard out the diesels build my own wiring harnesses to convert em back over to gasoline instead of choppin up the stock harness, put 425 horse big blocks in em lift em 8 inchs put aluminum wheels and 38`s on em repaint em redo the interiors and make good money sellin em to the general public. i also build my own lift kits from scratch. now im not gonna say your wrong cuz like i said i think we said the same thing basicly, i was just trying to make it so jack could understand easy enuff, and what you said is true but gmc is chevrolets truck division make no mistake about that. reason i went on with all this babble was to show my credentials as i take pride in knowin chevrolet front to back inside and out. here is a link with pics of my efforts, my race cars, my shop, monster trucks, the bush 4x4`s, and almost every truck i listed above.

have a look if ya want. hope you like my junk. and dont mistake this as tryin to start an argument cuz im not. oh and be sure and look in the background of each pic in the cars album and you will see most all the various trucks i mentioned in one pic or another. and town and weasel in pic 91crewie5 you can see in the background the suzuki im trickin out . the one im narrowing the pair of dana 60 frontends for. at the top of each pic after the large pic loads you will see VIEW in the drop down it will say fit window, open the drop down and select normal and the pics will be full size.

I'll second that especially if it revs high before shifting. You will find this cable on the throttle lever near the throttle body. There may be several cabless here. You are looking for the one that goes to the trans. It will have a button that takes some pressure to move. When you press the button, push the cable towards the button, make only small adjustments - like about 1/8" at a time. This will lower the line pressure to the clutches and can cause you to burn up the trans if the adjustment is not done properly - If the trans starts shifting way early and or slipping into gear set it back!
It is possible that when the rebuild was done the builder modified the valve body to make the unit shift harder.

Re: Hard shifting jimmy
My friend had a Blazer like that and his tranny endend up dying. He replaced the tranny and fit an oil cooler on it. Those suvs seem to run better with cooler oil temps. Put an oil cooler on it and see what it does. Trust me, it won't be a waste of money.

One of my friends had same problem in a similar vehicle and it turned out to be sensor which means the whole tranny had to be yanked.

Re: Hard shifting jimmy
WELL FOR STARTERS DID YOU GET A WARRANTY WITH THE TRANNY?? MOST TRANS COME WITH ATLEAST 12 MONTH 12K WARRANTY BECAUSE IT SOUND LIKE YOU HAVE A STICKING SHIFT SOLANOID OR THE 2-3 CLUTCH PACK IS BAD IF YOU HAD A PLUGGED FUEL FILTER OR CAT. IT WOULD NOT SHIFT OUT OF FIRST WITH OUT FULL THROTTLE
