Hey guys. 16 year old male here, of course I like shiny things and explosions.
Would like to dip my feet in the subject of pyrotechnics, but I'm not sure where to start.
Could you guys please recommend to me the book that, if you could go back in time, would give to your nub self to kickstart your pyro future?

Ive always found books to be dull and not a very good way of learning. Websites with good pictures and write-ups have helped me more.
Try this one. http://krimzonpyro.com.ve.carpathiahost.net/

I, on the other hand, Love books and literature. Science books are no exception. One of the best books I've found on explosives and pyrotechnics is The Chemistry of Powder and Explosives by Tenney Davis. The book IS old, but still is very relevant and informative. Also, it was written at a rather high level of chemistry assuming you know a lot about physical and organic chemistry that you most likely don't. However, what better way to learn that stuff than from a book about explosives? It's far more interesting chemistry than I've "learned" so far in my college courses. You can pick up the book and other science stuff here: http://www.unitednuclear.com/book.htm
Also, I believe there was a PDF of the book floating around somewhere...
But this book definitely carries my recommendation.

Intorductory Practical Pyrotechnics by Tom Perigrin is considered a pretty good starter book by some posters to rec.pyrotechnics, you can get it at skylighter and probably a few more places. Skylighter has a table of contents that you can see.
Are you going for explosives or pure pyro? IE TNT or aerial shells and rockets?
Whats that economics quote? Ah yes, "Guns and butter." That might also make a fair shirt... ish...

Thanks a lot guys, I'll pick up COPAE. I looked for a PDF version but couldn't find it.
And1129: I took grade 11 chem, learned stoichiometry and VSPER and quantum mechanics a bit. Enthalpy and all that shit. Dunno if that all will help.
asilentbob: I want to make explosives that can do all sorts of shit. Pyro things are pretty, but big booms, I think, are cooler. I wanna be able to cut a tree in half with one. From what I read, I would need a "linear shape charge." That would be so sweet. BOOM. TIIIMMMBBBBEEEERRRRRR.
A massive smoke bomb with non-toxic fumes would be fun to set off as a prank on a major holiday or something in a neighborhood.
