I'm sure other people have done this, but it was a first for me, and I was suprised at how easy it was to rig up. If anyone doesn't know how I'll be glad to explain how I did it.

What part of the definition of "detonate" am I missing?

If I correctly understand your attempted question, the answer is yes.

lol .. i feel pretty stupid for saying that but it is the most common amoung people newer to RC ignition systems
and what i ment is prett much the circuit board from a cheap rc car is removed a power supply attached the leads deteached and then reattached to a squib ... it will work but is got to be one of the most unsafe ways i cold ever imaginge due to ignorant frequancys that could cause you to blow your arms off...
i perfer my way better veiw my topic on post your ignition systems (somthing to that effect)

Re: I just successfully detonated an explosive by remote controll.
Yeah, it can pick up stray radio frequencies, which is why I don't attach the battery until I'm ready to set it off.

Blackpowder burns slower than the speed of sound (thus deflagerating instead of detonating).
However, if you can design your container right I believe you can build up the subsonic gasses to supersonic (and thus detonation) speeds.

Re: I just successfully detonated an explosive by remote controll.
I believe that defrag is where the flame moves through the explosive breaking a molocule which hits the next and so on. However when something detonates a shock wave passes through the explosive which causes the molocules to break pretty much all at the same time.
Iv though about useing a RC device but its a little expensive for me wasting the circut on one charge. Still it would be a lot of fun

Re: I just successfully detonated an explosive by remote controll.
I think that's pretty cool. A few years back I used the reciever and one of the servos from my helo to pull the trigger on one of my rifles. Not a huge engineering feat, no, but it opens up possibilities if life were to get really wierd.
And as noted, stray transmissions can cause problems. On occasion I'll play with my cats with one of the cheap RC cars and more often than not the car will move or wheels turn on their own. I think it probably has a lot to do with the quality of the reciever also. My helo has never misbehaved. On the otherhand, who would want to blow up a 200.00 reciever and servo? -Rod-

Re: I just successfully detonated an explosive by remote controll.
^^More then likly me ...
with the RC story yeah it's true but i remember when i was a young lad at about 7 i had this RC car i played with well forgot to turn off the car the remote was off but the car wasn't so the next morning i woke u with this thing running into the wall with all it's might and it had it's bumper against the wall and just a pushing and the back was jumping and the engines were just a firing .. it was kinda of funny but thats besides the point ...
-warweed12
PS what would be the best signal frequancy to broadcast on ?? maybe i can talk to my friend about a lower risk RC ignition system that would be cheaper possibly even sell them ..

Re: I just successfully detonated an explosive by remote controll.
The next step is to go to radio shack and get parts to build one from scratch.

Uhh... you don't waste it on one charge. Add some extra wire, so that the explosive will be away from the reciever, and shield the reciever in a wood/metal box.

I built one from scratch a few years ago (a radio reciever, I wasn't using it as a detinator). This is a lot easier.

Sounds like a plan, but if I were you I'd plan on not getting caught selling them.

Re: I just successfully detonated an explosive by remote controll.
Ahh but the beauty of it is you can sell them. hehe no officer there not detonators there just long range remotes used to turn on and off electrical devices (ie. lights.)
Besides you could just sell the plans and parts and its legal too because your not responsible for what there used for or how there used.
Ohh I almost forgot I was at Wal-mart the other day and I was looking at Wireless door bell chimes for uses as a remote station and anyway they had some nice ones for only 30 bucks it had 130 programable chennels and a 150' range wich isn't bad atall but I would like a little more 500' or so.
Any ideas on how to increase the transmmitters range with out too much trouble. Im not sure if its UHF or not I will go back sometime and check here and post up all the info I can get off the box and all and see what I can dig up off the net.
Till then Cyaz

I'd guess the safest way would be to use a pair of cell phones. Judging by the news from the gov't recently, that's hardly an original idea -Rod-

actually if i were to sell them they would be ignitors but for aerial telimetary devices and redundent ejection charge in use with the ever so popular high powered rocketry ..

Re: I just successfully detonated an explosive by remote controll.
If you're looking for the best possible signal quality and the least inteferance, you would want to go with a PCM setup. Only problem is that the reciever/transmitter combo (collectively, "Radio", in R/C terms) would be prohibitively expensive.
If you were using an R/C device for ignition, and you were not in a situation where the equipment needed to be disposable, you could likely build a miniature blast-resistant box, containing the radio equipment, batteries, etc.
If you're on AM, which most toy R/C cars run on, then the 75mHz band would probably be the best to use. It offers a wider range of available frequencies than the 27mHz band, as well as slightly clearer signal transmission as well as slightly less inteferance (compared to the 27mHz band).
