I've never made it before, but I'm thinking about trying it soon. I thought it would be better than AP, because I've heard it's less sensitive to shock/friction due to it's liquid form.

It will not make a difference in power, but just how quick the reaction is.

I never tried H2SO4, but im pretty sure it would be quicker. I would use the HCl because it is cheaper and the temp is easier to control.

I used H2SO4 and it was insane it spashed so much. And after I put the acid in, it was already a red color. Now I hear you, this is fucked up, but I thought I would keep it just in case and a day later it turned out just fine and now I have 25mL of damn good MEKP.

My best guess is that Sulfuric would get a better yeild and a fast reaction, But thats against the the strongest HCL I have ever had which was 50% as a deck cleaner. My strongest H2SO4 was 99% . And you have to have alot of patience when it comes to reactions of that nature. I usually do a drop every minute just to be safe.

I haven't ever used HCl to make MEKP but I think it is best to use HCl. I made some with H2SO4 and it reacts ultra-rapidly. Like after 15minutes there's a lot of MEKP at the top which seems to react very badly with the sulfuric acid as just like a drop of acid would hiss and throw up steam where initially it takes a good .25ml to cause it to hiss. Also I think the one addition of acid it even smoked a little bit upon adding H2SO4 because it didn't seem like steam. Also my MEKP is shitty shit for some damn reason. Then temp was kept around 10C on the addition of acid and at most 0C for a few hours. The layer of MEKP that forms on the top sucks ass. When a small stick is dipped in it and lit it just burns, no deflagration at all. I also soaked a bit in a small bit of paper towel and wailed away at it with a hammer. In the end I think it might have actually detonated or the paper towel just got torn from the hammer because there wasn't any sharp crack of it detonating or anything. So what gives? Why does my MEKP suck ass? Is it a bad reaction with the H2SO4 or did the hydrous dimer form for some reason? This happens every time I make MEKP.

Deflagration is the same thing as buring.

The acid is just a catalyst so the product will be the same either way. I have always used HCl because a) its cheap and b) it reacts too fast (in my opinion) when you use H2SO4. When using HCl you just let it sit overnight and it'll all be reacted, no reason to hurry.

Deflagration isn't exaclty the same thing as burning. Deflagration is typically considered to be rapid and intense burning with out the necessity of an external source of oxygen. This stuff just burns like regular MEK, it doesn't actually deflagrate like MEKP should.
