I saw this from James Yawn's incredible site on recrystallized KNO3/Sucrose rockets

(incredible website on the subject btw)

and I had to pass it on.

from http://www.jamesyawn.com :

The Homeland Security Act and Safe Explosives Act are threatening rocketry! If allowed to stand as currently written, these Acts will have a devastating effect on amateur rocketry.

Fortunately, Senator Mike Enzi of Wyoming has presented a bill (SB 724) before the Senate which proposes that rocket propellant be exempted from the restrictions of the SEA. But it has been modified in the Senate Judiciary Committee to include substantial weight limits on ACPC propellant, and leaves most amateur propellants unprotected. It needs your support! If passed as currently written, much of what is described on these pages will become illegal without a special permit or two, which many people will have trouble obtaining.

For current information on the status of this bill and actions you might take to ensure its success, please visit John Wickman's ASRA site at: http://www.space-rockets.com/congress.html

Nice to see someone on capital hill stand up for a legitimate educational and knowledge building hobby.

Now if only someone would take a stand for amatuer pyrotechnicians and amatuer chemists who seek to broaden their knowledge and experience through the use of energetic materials.

He's right, you know. Go write a letter to your senator (if you're in the US). Or something.
