Potassium Perchlorate
Does anyone know where I can get some KCl04 from?
I'm not looking for a website to order from, but wondering where I might be able to find some in my city.

Re: Potassium Perchlorate
Why not just order it from a web site ?
It is bassically hassle free and you don't need a id or anything. And some sites let you pay with a money order too.

Re: Potassium Perchlorate
KClO4 has no real practical uses other than pyrotechnics, you can't find it for leagal commercial use. The only way to obtain it is to buy it from a chemical supplyer.

I live in New Zealand, and don't really won't to work out shipping, customs, ordering, or payment stuff.
I could try finding a chemical supplier. Any other ideas?

Re: Potassium Perchlorate
hmmm, did you try mixing Potassium, Chlorine, and oxegen? lol, serisly though, if you can't find it in Wellington i would look in Australia. Or if no one in America will ship to you then maybe look in China, they're the ones who started all this pyro stuff anyway. Thats all i can think of, good luck.

Re: Potassium Perchlorate
Speaking of KCLO4...does anyone else have the caking issues that I do? I can mortar and pestle the shit out of it, run it through a fine screen until it is a fine dust, then about 2 seconds later it starts clumping again.
suggestions?

Try adding cab-o-sil to it. You can find it at fiberglass places like http://www.fiberglasssupply.com/Product_Catalog/Fillers/fillers.html, Unitednuclear, or pyrotek. Add about 1% by weight, or maybe even a little less, and it will make if very free flowing. I ball mill mine, but I'm sure you can just morter and pestle it.

Re: Potassium Perchlorate
Instead of cab o sil, I just mix a few percent of aluminum with the perchlorate before I add in the rest of the aluminum, charcoal, or whatever fuel I plan on using with it. It always keeps the clumps out.

Re: Potassium Perchlorate
I've also heard of adding magnesium oxide to help potassium nitrate from clumping, so I imagine it works for potassium perchlorate as well. I don't know what the ratios would be, but probably 3%-5% since it is heavier than cab-o-sil.
