Kmno4 Mix
Has anyone tried melting kmno4 (Potassium Permanganate) and sucrose in the same way and ratios as the smoke mix? I have, and I end up with a caramel-brown chunk that quickly solidifies and gives off a big purplish flame when ignited.
However, I get so many accidental ignitions its not funny (my kitchen nearly burnt down, now I do it outside but it's still kinda dnagerous). If anyone whose done it could please tell me a safer way to melt the two compounds, I'd love to hear it.

Re: Kmno4 Mix
Thanks for the idea.
I do know that if you dissolve them in water they will decompose. Could possibly use wax or hot glue gun stick.

Re: Kmno4 Mix
I don't know if 'double boiling' is the proper term,
but if you would put the two chemicals into a beaker submerged in boiling water on a hot plate, you could control the temperature a lot easier.
Checking the flash point of KMnO4 might help.

Re: Kmno4 Mix
Mixing those mixtures arin't very safe. KMnO4 compostions are not that stable.

Re: Kmno4 Mix
Lol i cant belive you did that, at least not inside, kmno4 aint the best thing to heat with a fuel... Not a flame just a warning for the safty of others...

I wouldnt melt the sugars but if you do by dextros sugar. they sell it at woolworths in the homebrew section. i believe it has a lower melting point.

Re: Kmno4 Mix
If you dissolve the mix in 99% alcohol, and then dry it out you can make pellets or chunks which you can throw in water or light on fire.
