ethanol [drinking alchol] + hydrogen peroxide = flame



mix the two and wait if nothing happens in a few minutes then you got cheap liqure. throw a match.



the hydro perxid gives of O2 and the heat from the reaction should start a fire.

Unless you have a high percentage H2O2, dont expect a thing.

i think the best i have found thus far with out special ordering .. is 30%

Ethanol is a kind of alcohol used to make things like beer and such(that you can drink).

No, rubbing alcohol has isy... isi... eyesi... eyesypropohol alcohol. That's definately not the correct spelling of it. Anyway, it's a completely different kind of alcohol, and it will not make flame. Ethynol alcohol is drinking alcohol, which is a byproduct of yeast bacteria, which means use a high proof alcohol like vodka for this trick. Also, as someone else implied, it's difficult to get pure enough peroxide for this to work... I just looked at the bottle I have, and it's only 3%. You might be able to swipe some from your school chem closet.

This may be a stupid question but I don't know so I'm going to ask...Where do you get ethanol? Can you get it at Wal-Mart that is flavored like mint or something like that??

For Ethanol just go and buy some Denatured alchohol Its Ethanol with petro mixed in so that you can't drink it hehe. Eather that or just distill some at home yourself. Also you could just boil down some 3% H202 to get it about %30 or hell you could even shell out some serious cash and get some %30 or %50 can biol that down but i wouldn't recomend it. %30 will easily take off skin in seconds and %50 will really mess you up bad.

Wait, peroxide can be boiled down? I thought it would evaporate with the water.

No, the boiling point of H2O2 is higher than water, so as long as you keep the temp. controlled you will be fine.
