a question about AP & AP putty
hello, everyone.
today, i am going to try AP, the first time. i've done HMTD, TNP and NC so far, oh well.
and my question about AP is:
how sensitive is it? can i treat it like HMTD, or is it more sensitive?
and also, a question about AP putty:
may someone please tell me how i could prepare AP putty out of acetone, NC and AP? i don't know the ratios, and Rat_Bastard's HE pages are down...
thanks

Re: a question about AP & AP putty
I mix it on feeling now and i've only done it five times, meaning it's easy.
You just need too dissolve your NC in acetone fill up so it's covered about 1 cm, dont take too much because then you'll get crevases(spellcheck) in your putty when dried (loss of power?).
When then NC is totally dissolved you just mix it with AP in 50/50 proportion. Pour it in the apropriate container and let dry.

Re: a question about AP & AP putty
Aye, thanks a lot Rat.
Does anyone know the VoD compared to normal AP?

Re: a question about AP & AP putty
nope, sorry...
but a friend of mine told me that the VoD of "normal" NC (he means the one that you get normally, not when synthesizing cellulose hexanitrate) is something around ~6000 m/s, and i guess the VoD of AP putty, if done with NC, and not pingpong balls, is higher than the VoD of AP.
[edit]
i'm done with AP now, and i have filtered it already. well, there are things that look like big crystals, but that can't be, the liquids reacted at -25°C, and during acid addition, the temperature stayed at -10°C, the most time, and never rose above 0°C. well, so... what are these big thingies (about 2x2 or 3x3mm)? i guess only trimeric crystals which stick together, right?
[edit 2]
http://home.arcor.de/fms1904/pics/AP_yield.jpg (http://home.arcor.de/fms1904/pics/AP_yield.jpg)
that's my yield from 12ml 35% H2O2, 10ml acetone and 5ml 33% HCl. the temperature was kept below -20°C all the time.
now... why the heck is my yield so tiny?!

Re: a question about AP & AP putty
Probably. If the temp didn't go above 0'C the you should get trimeric. You gant really see the result and size of the crystalls prior to drying.

Re: a question about AP & AP putty
Hey since we're talking about AP, I've heard that it reacts with metals, like HMTD does, so therefore it's not safe to use in metal casings. Is it safe to use in a metal casing?

Re: a question about AP & AP putty
It works fine for me with brass in AP .223s. There may be some dangers with brass or with other metals that I am not aware of.

Re: a question about AP & AP putty
Let your AP react longer. At lower temperatures the reaction is slower.
