How many of you have ever had cops show up at your house in relation to explosives?
I read a thread about this that got me thinking about it. My parents know about my hobby, and they don't like it, but they don't do anything about it. Because of that, I don't take particular care in hiding my explosives/fireworks/materials. All of my ingredients, materials, and finished products are kept in one unlocked dresser in my room. Occasionally I have other materials that would be considered conspicuous lying around in various areas of my room. I've never really thought it was likely that a cop would show up at my door, but the author of that thread seemed to think it was something to worry about.
So, how many of you have ever had police show up at your door? What did they do? What led them to you?
Thanks.

Re: How many of you have ever had cops show up at your house in relation to explosives?
3 times.
The first one was becuase we were lighting bottle rockets (which are illegal in the state we were in), so some pussy called the cops, and they met me on my front porch.
The second, and closest, was back in January when I lit an M-80 in my friends front yard, and his wife didnt approve of it and called the cops before someone else called on them. The cops came up to my door asking if I was lighting fireworks, and I just said there were some people behind my house lighting fireworks, and I said I was the one who called the cops. He believed it, recorded it, and left.
The last one was this Fourth of July. Nothing much, a cop just came by when we were lighting fireworks, talked all this bullshit about it being illegal, and left. She didnt even take our fireworks, record our address, or fine us.

I have, I don't feel like typing in the details so lets just say, telling all your "friends" at school you make explsoives, generally is not a good idea!

Re: How many of you have ever had cops show up at your house in relation to explosives?
Yea I had the cops called on me twice, and threatend to be called 2 more times.
I was lighting off fireworks in front of my parents and people that we had over (putting on a little show) and I was making alot of noise, using bottle rockets, roman candles, firecrackers, etc. So one of my nieghboors called the cops on me, so the cops were called on me. Luckily I had just finshed my little show when the cop car drove by (got off lucky, becasue they were nieghboors up the street, and did not know which house was doing it ).
The second time was the same thing bassically, and just as the last time I had just finished when the cop car came rolling by
And then the cops where almost called on me becasue I lit a M-80 at 10:00 pm, and the guy got mad and started saying that he has put up with my fireworks and bottle rockets for 3 months now, and the next time he will call the cops. And it was the same thing the second time.
But now I only do my fireworks, M-80's and all that other stuff far away from my house (atleast 10 miles now, usually in remote areas).

Re: How many of you have ever had cops show up at your house in relation to explosives?
Shortly after posting this I began a little project to hide my firework shop. As of now, all my fireworks, firework powder, gunpowder, cobs, other explosives, and all related materials are hidden in a hole in the wall, behind a baseboard, behind a cot, inside my padlocked closet. The padlock won't stop police if they want to get in there, but it will stop casual observers from accidentally stumbling across my stash. If the cot is moved to reveal the baseboard, the baseboard looks completely normal. I had to chip out a lot of plaster and break a lot of boards, but I found a proper hiding place.

Ehh, I still don't know what to do.
Dam I need a good spot to hide my stuff
The cieling is to small of a space, so I can't do that... and I don't think the walls could be broken into without my parents knowing.

Had a ddnp charge on hold, waiting for my mate to get back with the igno-plug for the electro fuse. Some fucking idiot came out of his house.
"what you doing"
......
"well"
I told him that we were just playing football, and then he said "I am gonna call the police"
I just told him to fuck off, and sure enough he did.
I just told the police that we were playing football.
It reminded me of a time when Me and TBickle were fucking about with rockets, and i talked around the officer, and then we fucked off.

Re: How many of you have ever had cops show up at your house in relation to explosives?
Twice.
Once when I was a freshman in high school. A friend had found instructions for making acetone peroxide (this was before you could hop on the net and get such info) and had shared it with several people. He was trying to use it to make special effects for a play and ended up blowing his hand off. The next day the bomb squad visited several houses, including mine, to pick up acetone peroxide that we had made.
The second time, I was just fusing some salts in a crucible outside. A meter reader came by and reported the "suspicious activity" (there are a lot of meth labs in the area). The officer was pretty friendly, probably because it was obvious I wasn't doing anything related to meth. Dunno how that would have gone if I'd been refluxing or something outside.

Re: How many of you have ever had cops show up at your house in relation to explosives?
Nope, but a somewhat related (but not really) kinda funny (a little ) story.
I was experimenting with one of the first KN03 smoke bombs and lit it off in my back yard. needless to say, there was quite a bit of smoke. Now, my backyard has a somewhat short (5.5-6 foot) brick wall seperating it from a major street. Some woman drove by and saw the large smoke cloud in my yard. She hurried to my front door, which my mom answered. She said somewhat frantically that my backyard was on fire. My mom reassured her it was just a smoke bomb. a few seconds later, my mom came out back laughing and telling me what had happened.
Oh, and i usually (this was basically the only exception) make sure whatever goes off in my backyard goes off when noone is driving directly past. luckily i can see the traffic light from my yard, so i can time it pretty well, just to make sure i dont scare the piss out of some innocent motorist and make him or her have an accident.
That would be bad.

Re: How many of you have ever had cops show up at your house in relation to explosives?
I've never really had any problems with cops. I was with some people lighting fireworks in a parking lot several years ago and some cops came because a lady called but we had used everything by then. I don't light anything but very small and/or quiet stuff in my yard. I'd like to hide my stuff, but I have a ton of stuff that would need hiding and I want to be able to get to it...

Re: How many of you have ever had cops show up at your house in relation to explosives?
Hiding HEs or illegal compositions might not be a bad idea, but it seems to me like it would stupid to hide just the materials used. If a cop ever found material that you had hidden somewhere, the very fact that you hid them in the first place will most likely alert him to the fact that you planned on doing something illegal with them. Think about. People who use acetone as paint thinner don't hide their acetone under the couch, and rocketry enthusiasts don't hide their KClO4 inside the wall.
Obviously the goal is never to have anyone show up at your door in the first place, but, it seems to me that if you ever were searched or visited by the police, you would be much smarter to claim a legitimate use for the chemicals you possess rather than risk serious questioning after they find them hidden under a couch or inside a wall.
I've also noticed that cops are often a lot nicer to those who appear to be religious, so it might not be a bad idea to leave a conspicuously placed Bible and a couple religious magazines lying around if anyone ever showed up at your door.

Re: How many of you have ever had cops show up at your house in relation to explosives?
Nope, but I"ve had a close call. Well this was when I first got into homemade pyrotechnics(around July 8th,2002,I was 10). The first thing I made was a bottle salute(I had to just come up with the idea, because I had no idea about the pyro resources on the Internet).
Sometime around August I decided to light a bottle salute right in the middle of the street! After I lit it I ran with my buddy to go look at the burn mark on the street and look for a piece of the bottle. As we were doing that My mean anti-social,asshole,65 year-old neighbor named Mr.Shawl yelled out, "If you do that again, I'll call the law"! Ted and I ran inside my house to safety.

Re: How many of you have ever had cops show up at your house in relation to explosives?
I had a lady pig roll up on me like 8 years ago on the 4th i was strolling down my friends block on my bike and lighting off packs of thunderbombs till i got to where i had to go so im going and i lit off to packs and as i threw them i looked behind me and the second the packs land on the ground and start going off a cop car turns the corner i was like fuck! so she rolls up and is like ok give me your fireworks so i gave her like 10 packs and a few bottle rockets and she is like u better not have anymore around and i said no so she left. later on that day we set off all our shit and we had a gross or salutes and some quatersticks, as the last salute went off and we were walking away 2 cop cars come and it was the same cop and she came right up to me and said i told you u better not have anymore and u lied, i was like it wasent me and you didnt see me or my friends light anything off and she got pissed and just gave us a warning and left. Latley i just keep my fireworks in my garage i have some left over and today my neighbor is moveing to fla in like two weeks so he gave me a box full of left over shit he had so i was happy, and as my chemicals go i keep them in my closet, it cops would ever come il tell them to get a warrent and to get off my property b4 i call my lawyer, if they dont like it thay can f**k off!

it's my theory that if are polite to the police and don't give them any shit they will go easyier on or let you go with a warning, obviously telling them to "f*ck off" isn't going to help you. so don't be a jerk and answer there questions with clever inteligant lies and you might come out alive.

Re: How many of you have ever had cops show up at your house in relation to explosives?
First of all the cops can not enter your house without a warrant o if they see the illegal item which would give them just cause. It does not hurt to hide your rare chemicals and all of the explosives, but keep the everday stuff were it would usally be. If a cop wants into your house ask for a warrant, if the cop does not have one ask him nicely to go away. They have no right to search your house becasue someone called them becasue they heard a explosion.

Re: How many of you have ever had cops show up at your house in relation to explosives?
Twice,
The first time I lit a flash cob off in my backyard, you have to understand that I live in a crowded subdivision, and I usually set stuff off when a train goes by. Needless to say it was quite loud and my nextdoor neighbor called the cops on me. Luckily it was only a few days after the fourth so I just used the "leftover fireworks" excuse.
The second time was when me and my friend had made our frist pipebomb, we thought we had a good blastsite for it which was a construction site right in back of a subdivision. Well it just so happened that our local sheriff lived in that subdivison, and he hauled his fatass over there. We didn't get caught but that was the fastest I have ever run in my life, and we ran a damn good distance away.... but it was a good rush hauling ass out of there

Yeah, but all the "innocient but potentially harmful" things are hidden with the "definately fucking illegal" things. If they find the legal chemicals hidden, yes they will be suspicious, but they're hidden with my finished products so if they find the innocient stuff I'm fucked anyway.

if you have any empty paint cans lying around (paint on the edges and can works best) hide some of your stash in those and place them behind other paint cans in the garage/shed
