I finally made some BP and it worked! im ready for flash now. My first question would be- Can this be made with items that you can get in a store? and can i extract Potassium Perchlorate from whistle mix? i read that its 70% Potassium Perchlorate and 30% Sodium Benzoate

I don't think you can buy these ingredients in a store,(unless you ball mill aluminum foil for 2-3 weeks) you need 600 mesh Aluminum and Potassium perchlorate. Yes it is true, I doubt that you would be able to seperate the two. Just buy some. And save youself the hassle.

Well in you are looking for a mixture where are the chems are storebought, you can do the 50/50 Magnesium KNO3 mixutre...

Try using 70/30 Bp and Mg shavings. I made a 1 gram M-80 that was hella louder than a 3 gram Bp Al M-80 in the same type of casting. You can get Mg from camping stores in the fire starter isle.

I wanna buy an amount that will last me for a little while... how much Potassium Perchlorate and alumimium(sp?) powder do i want to order?

2 pounds of KCLO4 and 1 lb. of AL will roughly(very roughly) make 2.5 Lbs. of flash.

That's usually what I get whenever I order and it last me long enough...

stupid question... It seems since your not old enough to do math i wouldnt advise you playing with flash.

you'll have roughly 1,180 grams which if used wisely in 3 gram salutes will give you about ~350 m-80's.

if you use 5 grams or so you'll have enough for ~200.

actual measurements and flashpowder usage will vary.

why would you do that? save the mg for some pechlorate or KNO3 dont use BP... Are you sure the reason it was louder was that your AL mixture in the same tube pushed the end plugs out?

Don't they require you to send a copy of your drivers license and a hold harmless agreement signed in ink with your first order?

I just ordered online and they sent my chemicals to me. No tricks or secrets. Well I used my dad's credit card so maybe they got the age from that.

Remember I said that pyrotek doesn't. Skylighter on the other hand does require ID the first time you order along with a hold harmless agreement. And then they just keep that on file.

Btw... to the person that said im not old enough to do math. Listen please, I just asked to see what a normal amount a pyro would order at a time. I *could* have calculated how many salutes i could get out of a certain amount but i didn't. I decided to ask for a *GASP* opinion.

hehehe its alright i was just playing around.

I order the eact same amount and plan to every time, some places wont sell you more then a pound of AL per order either.

Galvin, I would have used KNO3 but I can't get any. I didn't make the Al salute my friend did so I don't know how he glued the plugs in. They both were shells from D engines. Mine used paper end plugs and blew the thing to confetti. His just popped and sort of cracked it.

Also...go to E-bay. Type in a search for either potassium perchlorate or Indian aluminum or german aluminum...you'll find plenty of results.
