For a magnesium fueled flash powder would magnesium carbonate and potassium perchorlate work as well as just magnesium powder and potassium perchorlate?

Thanks.

Magnesium Carbonate

[MgCO3] White powder

Used as a glitter delay agent; sometimes as a free-flow agent for some potassium chlorate and perchlorate mixes.

A chemical equation for Mg flash is

KClO4 + (4)Mg => (4)MgO + KCl + __kcal

(2)KNO3 + (5)Mg => K2O + (5)MgO + N2 + __kcal

(i think?)

using potassium perchlorate and potassium nitrate respectively.

MgCO3 is unsuitable for any flash compositions, and extraction would be a bitch because of magnesium's tendency to react with water.
