I've been making black powder cobs for a while, which is sufficiently entertaining for me, but I've run out of co2 canisters and I won't be able to buy anymore for awhile since I only have $-70 (I owe someone $70). So, any ideas for what would make a good casing for black powder that I might be able to find around the house? I know metal has dangerous shrapnel, but I'd prefer something metal because I only have bp and no flash or anything.

You could give some to me. Rocket egines aren't cheap you know. I've got another four years before I can buy BP.

Black powder makes a nice lift for gasoline fireballs, or FAEs.
If casings is what you're in need of, you can actually make some pretty decent paper casings that will work well with BP from household products like paper towel rolls, grocery bags, etc.
Check Krimzon Pyro or ICP's site for good info on how to do that.

Actually, I'm only 15 myself but my dad will buy black powder or flash for me (provided I pay for it).
I don't suppose anyone has any idea where I might find empty CO2 canisters? I don't think there's such a thing as a bb gun range... maybe a paintball battlefield? Some of the small paintballs guns use those tiny canisters instead of the larger refillable ones. I don't think that's very likely though.

Whipped cream bottles, most soda fountains (at mcdonalds, the just keep the pop full of CO2). Just look around, or ask friends for their empty CO2 canisters. Right now I have about 50 empty canisters, and I usually give them to a friend becuase I have nothing else to do with them.
Just try paper casings. It works if you know how to make them. XTheWhitePonyX posted some pictures a while back of what a black powder salute did to a pop can, so metal is not your only choice.

^^ Idiot
You could use pill bottles, gatorade bottles, or the can your black powder came in.
Or, you could just save your black powder until you do get money to do whatever you want with it.

Re: I have a pound of black powder and I don't know what to use it on.
I dont even know how to make cobs that work, mine only goes pfuitt. I've always rolled my own from aluminium beercans, there's no shrapnell (correct spelling?) that will hurt you and if you do it right you get a nice report. The how to part is up to you but a little tip along the way, cut of the top and bottom with a pair of scissors. Then cut the aluminium in the desired size. Roll it upp tight around a broomstick or other round object and put som duct-tape around it. Hope it helps.

actually this is interesting... i never thought there was a use for an empty soda can. Yes your not supposed to use metal everyone knows that, its just what you do and how safe you make the situation.

I did the exact same thing, but to make it even more suspicious, I bought 15 feet of cannon fuse to go along with the black powder. The attendant asked my dad what he was going to do with it, and he said, honestly "Well, I have a 15 year old son who likes blowing things up. He's going to do something with this..." The woman then shared a story of the last person who bought black powder and fuse for their son, and how the son ended up blowing up a toilet in the high school. She didn't give a damn. She sold him the stuff without a problem.

YES! Gun store owners are OFTEN suspicious. They'll most likely ask you "What kinda gun you gonna use this in?" And it's a good idea to know which kinds of guns various types of BP are commonly used in.
ELEPHANT BLACK POWDER -
FFg - Mainly used in shotguns and rifles over a .54 calibre.
FFFg - Used in .50 calibre rifles and below.
FFFFg - Used for priming flintlocks, probably the best for salutes or expolosives.
GOEX BLACK POWDER -
FFg - Used in .40, .45, .50, .54 and .58 calibre rifles.
FFFg - Used in .36 and .32 black powder handguns. (I told him I had a .36 calibre replica remington revolver)
FFFFg - Flintlock priming only. (Try telling them you have a Thompson Firestorm or a Austin Halleck .50 calibre flintlock rifle. If you plan on buying more than one pound of priming powder you'd better throw in a pound of Fg powder as well so your story will be consistent.)
EDIT: TMG, no offense, but that was a DUMBASSED thing your dad said to that clerk. Lucky for you he happened to get an amoral clerk, otherwise he would have had his ass handed to him.

How about a supermarket?
I don't know what you've got over in A-fucking-merica, and I really don't care, Walmart or whatever, but where I am CO2 canisters are 10 for $4. Thats about US$2.

The beercan ones dont produce dangerous shrapnell like other metall containers do because of the thin material used.

I roll them around a round object in the desired size. Tape them up but leave enough to fold over the openings. Make a hole in the middle of the container for the fuse, fold and tape one end. Make a paper doweling and push it in there, fill it up and do the same on the other side.

Yeah, I know it was. I wasn't in the store when he bought it, but I nearly shit myself when he told me that.
