Default Crater maker too odd

Hey, I'm back from summer traveling and I need to ask some questions about crater makers.I've been preforming very safe experiments in a very controlled enviorment and I was wondering if I make my c0bs to odd ,here is how I make them:

C02 CANISTER: Paint ball gun size

Fuse: match heads lined up in duct tape(forgot whats its called)

Mixture: BP

Saftey precautions:

Assistance: a professtional chemist.

Cover: A steel wall the size of a steam roller.

Protection: cotton clothing + a 25 pound metal plate + saftey helmet (just in case)

Now my problem is when ever we light the c0b there is no shrapnel at all, and why do I want it you ask... for documentaion, all that happens is it makes one hell of a loud noise like (thump...BOOOM) and goes 3 inches under ground, we think its cause were not sealing it and the gas is getting out so no boom witch means no shrapnell, and we know that the chlorates in the match heads may cause the BP to explode after long term storage so we only fuse it when were ready.Scince my

best friend who is a graduated profestional chemist is gone on summer break I dont know what the problem is but I think it is we cut the hole to big on the c02 canister and we need to seal it,so I did some reasearch and I came up with this, that I should seal it with

blue epoxy or some type of fast hardening epoxy gell I can get from him, So I wanted to know if I my problem is solved or I need to do somthing else...

P.S. I'm not bragging but if I need to get chemicals for any of my future projects I can get them for free from my friend so just for future refference thats all,we make the chemicals I get the howto from you guys, I LOVE your site.

You're cutting a hole in the canister? Most people just fill it from the small hole in the top. It takes a long time, but it makes for a better seal. What size is the hole you cut?

The best way to seal it is with epoxy putty.

Why do you cut it? Just take a 1/8 inch nail and hammer it into the small hole. Its a perfect fit for Visco fuse and it doesnt allow much gases to escape.

I think he meant that the hole in the top was too big. But, I'm not him, so I don't know what he meant.

If anyone's having trouble with cratermakers or just wants a little bit more noise from them, side fuse them. Plug the hole on the end, and drill a new one in the side. That way it'll take 1/2 the time to finish deflagrating.

DavidThePyro, is there a difference in shapnel if you side fuse it? I'm assuming that there will be, but I'm just trying to make sure.

Yea right, the only reason im wearing so much stuff is to document it up close, bout 20 feet away,Judging you by what you just said, you don't know how bad the shrapnell can hurt you, learn or don't say shit.

Sharpnel aint gonna hurt you if your behind a brick wall. Seriously though I just fill a COB up with BP fuse it cover the hole with epoxy wait about half hour. GO out side chuck it down a hill and run behind a tree.

Yea, normaly I would do that,but...this is testing and the wisdom my chemist friend taught me about safety I cant get out of my head, plus I dont just use all that gear just for c0bs,but also for HE compositions that he makes,so I hope that clears up all that mumbo jumbo wickey dacky confustion(I have NO clue where that frase came from but I like it)

Actually i do... I bet the damage you've seen from the sharpnel from a cob on a person is from that image on the net where a kid got a piece of it through his leg. Its funny how no one can take a joke...

spherical shrapnal due to the fact that it is aerodynamic and properly balanced were as nail ar not they also go very very fast lol

but damage wise i would say that nails used in a nail gun that some in metal wire belts would do the most damage

I'll keep that in mind for my next project,in fact I'll do that when my friend gets back.Oh yea I think for the next month I'll foucus on soft type projectiles, like plastic, thx for the idea warweed, thank your "scared drunken ass" for me.

EDIT: added SCARED

I remember Zero doing a test about a year ago testing to see how much shrapnel was produced by cobs. He placed a black powder filled cob under a large cardboard box, and set it off. When it went off, he counted the holes in the box to determine how much shrapnel was produced by the cob. He counted five. When he started looking around for the fragments, he found a large fragment stuck in a piece of wood at least 1/2 inch deep, which is very deep becuase a pellet gun shooting pellets at 650 pfs cannot even penitrate that deep. I dont remember how far away the wood was from the cob when it exploded, but I remember it being at least 50 feet away.

Think about it. If the shrapnel can penitrate 1/2 inch deep into hard wood, think about how deep it can penitrate into flesh? You should all think twice about messing with cobs.
