if asparin( acetylsaliclic acid) is just a benzene ring with a O

attached to the benzene ring (C6H6) would it be possible to remove the above functional groups to just get the benzene? im not sure that this is the right forum but the ultimate end for the benzene would be for use in explosives

I don't know of any way to produce benzene from ASA but you can produce phenol from ASA. Why bother though? I think benzene is pretty toxic compared to other aromatics that you could nitrate.

No ASA isnt the best starting point, mabey tolulene if you can get it, then a fridel crafts reaction,
