I have worked with flash for a little while and I am not really able to tell a difference between standard 70/30 flash and ones with accelerants such as antimony sulfide or sulfur. Magnesium of course can make for a brighter flash but other than that i see accelerants as a waste. Is there anyone here who thinks different? I would like to hear everyone elses results and opinions.

Thanks

Light powders are also said to raise the burn rate, but I never use them since flash powder containing some is much less dense than regular flash powder, so an M-80 that holds 3 grams of regular flash powder will only hold 2 grams, and while you can make more M-80s this way, they are less powerful, and it is better to save your money and pour in 2 grams of regular flash powder.

Every once and a while I will add sulfer to may KClO4/al flash powder, since the burn rate pretty much stays the same, and it is less expensive than aluminum so you make more flash powder by weight than without it. Sulfer or sulfides should never be mixed with flash powders or any other comp containing any chlorates.

KCl04 is Potassium Perchlorate, right?

I though adding sulphur will increase gas output?

some time ago I got a newletter from skylighter and it said to use 1gram of bp to 2 grams flash and it would increase the report and use less flash. Tryed it this morning (bordom is a awful thing) it seemed to work quite well. Very loud with more smoke resulting. GIve it a try and let us know what you think....oh the BP is comercial ffff. BADA BOOM

Sulfer does increase gas output, and since it is so cheap and doesnt really effect the burn rate of KClO4/al based flash powders, it is it the best and in my opinion the only accelerant that should be used in flash.
