5 grams of nitrocellulose about 10 nitrocellulose balls placed of the ground. They were 5 inches away from each other, I lit one expecting that one to burn, but instead all went off and produced a big fireball. It scorched the sleave of my sweater ,and gave me first degree burns to my hand. This happand 6 months ago.

That looks like it hurts. How did a bottle rocket manage to hit you in the cheek, anyway? Did it explode on your face, or did it just hit and bounce off?

The dumbest thing I ever did with pyrotechnics?.....hummm...well this was when I was experimenting when I was new I got 2 bottles of lighter fluid strapped them together put a cob beside them(the cob had a 2 ft long fuse) lit it ran down the hill and hid behind a BIG wall turned around to see the coolest thing I have ever done, but still a very stupid thing. The only marks Ive really gotten from lighter fluid are just tiny singes on my jeans, heh! I wish my friend could say the same he set his shoes on fire with the stuff!!

Lite off a homemade m80 with pieces of copper (shavings but about 1/2pound) taped to it. Right next to a aluminum can full of carburator cleaner(compressed) worst fucking idea ever. Don't do stupid shit while drunk ok?

Re: what is the dumbest thing you have ever done concerning pyrotechnics?
I once lit off a black powder cannon through the window in my room. It blew up and hurt me very badly.
I also almost burned down my house my playing with ethyl alcohol and a lighter. I poured it out of the same window and lit some on my window sill. The flaming stuff on the window sill dripped down to the ground, lighted that stuff and scorched a huge amount of ground. I didn't even know about it until my day flipped a shit at me.

Re: what is the dumbest thing you have ever done concerning pyrotechnics?
Okay, not pyro, but related.
I was making dry ice b... er, "Devices" with a cousin, and when one of them ballooned up but didn't burst for like 5 minutes (we used hot water and a couple of small chunks of dry ice) I went and picked the thing up to throw it... well, it just so happens that the pressure had finally reached the bursting point right then. So, I couldn't hear for like 2 days and I got SOAKED. Plus a pretty nasty bruise on my hand. It sucked.
EDIT: k3w1 control. (changed b*mb->device)

We had a rocket war, it was just a cheap moon traveler. It hit bounced off and blew on the ground.

Re: what is the dumbest thing you have ever done concerning pyrotechnics?
At least my accident wasn't caused by one of my own homemade devices, but instead a cheap rocket. I was at my mom's friend's house watching over some little kids setting fireworks during new year's and I had the stake in too deep for some cheap rocket and it felt like I was deaf and my ear's were bleeding after it made a big POW, but that was all an illusion but scary as hell. It turns out that you're supposed to put in the stake JUST when it's not gonna tip over.
Unrelated, but scary too was when I was in chemistry class and all juniors were gone on some school-wide field trip and me and some seniors did our lab. One thing we had to do was decompose ammonium carbonate. I put my nose in the reagent bottle and sniffed. It felt like my nose went completely raw and I decided to be careful for the rest of the experiments. After decomposing it, I smelled the resulting ammonia and it smelled ten times weaker than the crystals. That reminds me of stories of classes from previous years where idiots would see what would happen if all chemicals were mixed, but that's another story....

I had one of those KNO3/Sucrose accidents in my kitchen.
Once when I made a propane ballon using visco fuse instead of toliet paper the ballon prematuraly ignited from the side spit of the fuse. It ignited like 3' from my face. It singed my hair,(smelled like shit) eyebrows, and eyelashes.

Re: what is the dumbest thing you have ever done concerning pyrotechnics?
I had a tennis ball on fire from engine cleaner and paint thinner, then I took this 2 inch diameter aluminum pole thats about 3 and a half feet long, and a bottle of alcohol with a spray attachment from a lisol bottle...and sprayed down into the pipe with a thin stream a few times as the bottom was at about a 45 degree angle to the ground and in the fire.... Well it WHOOSHED out and I must say you think your reaction time is fast hell no that shit ENGULFED my hand and the spray bottle... Luckily the whoosh of fire was only a millisecond long, and I moved my hand. I'm suprised the bottle didnt' go up but it wasn't evaporated and liquid alcohol doesn't burn too well with my fires most of the time. After that it was pretty cool, the tube was jetting out the end, looked and sounded like a rocket engine. I did this a few more times but sprayed into the tube, then put it in the fire and sprayed the fire directly, resulted in the same whoosh and then rocket engine effect. It was really cool when I did it correctly.

Re: what is the dumbest thing you have ever done concerning pyrotechnics?
By the way the point wasn't to just light a tennis ball on fire...we were playing hockey with it on this incredibly misty night. We couldn't see anything but this flaming ball rolling back and forth. It was great. Then the ball melted too much to roll so we just had a fire. The spray alcohol is a favorite of mine, I just put a spray attachment on a big thing of it. It makes a nice whoosh/flame. This tube is my latest addition. It was pretty good. I'm into cheap thrills if you couldn't tell.

Made a few propane ballons diffrent sizes we lit the smallest one which was about 3 inches in diamater made a pussy fireball, made one about 5 inches wasn't bad but not immpressive made a huge one I lit the toliet paper stepped back like 10 feet the toliet paper went out so I was walking up and I guess a piece of flaming toliet paper fell on the ground beside it and i didn't see it singed eye brow arm hair leg hair and hair on my head. so sick in the shower all this burnt hair was coming off.

I've usually been pretty safe, but once I stuck about 7 firecrackers in a cinder block. It blew up and a piece of concrete scraped my face. Not too bad.

Re: what is the dumbest thing you have ever done concerning pyrotechnics?
You may have already heard this from me. I got a 600ml plastic bottle full of petrol. It had a firecracker in it with a sparkler fuse, all set up so the cracekr would go off in the centre of the bottle. I had used hot glue from a glue gun to seal the fuse into the lid. The glue melted and the fuse fell into he petrol prematurly. Instead of the whole thing going off like i thought it would, it just made a little bang and fell over, tipping petrol everywhere. So I set that on fire and left. Could have been alot worse since I was only about 2 metres away and walking with my back turned when that happend.
Another time was when I wedged 5 firecrackers into a crack in the side of this concrete tunnel I was in. I was really tired at the time and I had the sudden thought "I wonder how much this will hurt my ears if I just stand hear?" so i just stood there. The whole side of my face ached.

Re: what is the dumbest thing you have ever done concerning pyrotechnics?
I once had a safely tested rocket launcher blow up in my face all I got was some burnt hairs and a few cuts.
I also have been in a few back drafts of my own creation nothing serious but it was powerful enough to knock me on my ass.
(Zippo fluid in wood stove bad)
