 i just took apart a flare
i just took apart a flare and got about 6 ounces of yellow powder. What kind of powder is it and how should i use it? Any ideas?

hahahhahahah classic mistake there buddy.. that yellow powder is a worthless filler you should have gotten the wood bits as they have the strontium nitrate your lookin for.
brings back memories

opps there is probably an oxidizer in that yellow powder so maybe it is worth saving it, maybe....

ya i thought the wood chips were worthless so i burned them on newspaper and it was pretty cool. I tried to use the yellow crud as a bomb but it didn't work. So i used the same little container and used the match type stuff at the top of the flare in the container and it worked pretty well. Then i took the yallow powder and spread it out on a bunch of newspaper and lit it. it was a big inferno and lasted about 5 min.

A flare only contains fuel (wood chips) and oxydizer (that yellow crap). You're not gonna make a bomb out of the thing.

i have a different type of flare, it wasn't filled with any wood chips. Just this powder stuff, how would I isolate the strontium nitrate from this? Just soak the powder in water, filter, and allow the strontium to recrystallize?
