This question has puzzled me for some time, many fables and gospels tell of mortal men slaying and combating immortals or gods, yet ofcourse this creates a paradox, since technically an immortal can't be killed.

So, i prepose we eliminate as many possibilities as we can, and then see what we can delve from what remains, quote any decently respected religious text or legend, and lets see what can't kill immortals first. I'll start with rule #1

#1. no mortal weapon can kill an immortal.

This saying has much history amougst fable, greek and roman legend, and cultist christianity/islam/judaism, so by definition, a mortal weapon is;

A : A weapon designed to kill mortals made by a mortal.

So possible exceptions may be;

A : Some other mortal tool, designed not to kill mortals

B : What appears to be a mortal weapon, yet was constructed by another immortal.

I'm hoping I can get some decent responses.

I know, creative thought sucks, I know it's not something serious, but it'd be interesting, as in antiquity there are stories abound of conflict between the mortals and immortals.

Immortal does not always mean invinceable, but rather, one who doesn't die by age, as in: Living Forever (unless killed).

In Nordic Mythology the Gods ate magic apples which made them immortal, when the apples were taken from them they began to age, but then the apples were returned and so they were rejuvinated.

Well isn't it obvious?

First you need to soak a silver bullet in garlic oil, then you need to make a flaming offering to the aliens while chanting hugbalaglamachocho, make sure the sulver bullet is INSIDE the fire while the chanting is occuring otherwise the aliens will get mad and slay you for your ignorance! After an hour goes by, your gunna need to make yourself worthy of the immortal slayers by taking LSD, stripping, and running around at 4 am trying to fly. Do this for AT LEAST one hour. Only then will you be worthy. Then your going to have to take the magic bullet and weild it's now halluninogenic powers! The aliens may even aid you in you quest to kill an immortal is you've really made yourself worthy enough.

Good luck my friend, the trying to fly is the hardest part, but you can do it! Remember don't think, just have faith, and you can do it!!

The immortal was made by God, therefore you would need God to kill the immortal. Carving God's name or a Holy Text onto a sword, and butchering the immortal, would kill it.

Learn the goddamn tale. He was dipped in the river but his mum held him by the ankles, hence that part of him wasnt made imortal. He was shot in the heel. Hence achilles heel.

So if a mortal weapon is designed to kill mortals, then could you bludgeon them to death with a spoon, as that is not intendeed to kill humans?

Or instead of knifing them with your penknife whip out the corkscrew attachment!

First, we must decide why mortal weapons won't work. I think that perhaps immortals operate on a different principle than we do; therefore, weapons designed to mess up our systems will have little or no effect on their systems. Like a poison that kills apes and humans has no effect on cats, for instance. But this is only part of the answer: now we must speculate as to how our systems differ. I think that perhaps immortals, as not strictly limited to the physical, can a.) use their powers to block physical attacks and b.) shed or repair any bodies too damaged to continue. Most of our mortal weapons hinge on the concept that poking a hole in someone will make them cease to function. Apparently, this will not work on immortals: why? One answer may be that the force behind a spear is easily contained and neutralized by an immortal. Another might be that as immortals, they have had an unlimited amount of time to practice and become proficient at avoiding and using conventional weapons. Another way they could avoid death would be that their bodies aren't hindered by holes; redunant systems? A final possibility might be that they can easily shed their bodies or create new ones. Beings of pure energy, perhaps?

So now, part three of three: how to destroy any of these beings. Overloading their capacity to avoid attacks, or destroying a body so quickly and thoroughly that it can't repair itself: nuclear warhead? For a being of pure energy, it might be a little harder... electrical or magnetic forces could wreak havoc, though, and perhaps the sheer colossal force of a nuke would overwhelm them and render them unable to hold their energy in the patterns it must be to be "them".

Not to nitpick, but wasn't the Highlander's name Connor McCleod?

Connor was the original protagonist in the movies. Howeover in the series, and in one movie based on the series, Duncan was actually the main character and Connor was just a long-time friend of his.

My mistake. I never really watched any of the TV series episodes. I assumed(incorrectly) that it was based on the same character portrayed by Christopher Lambert.

Hmm... just a random thought that someone sparked. If Achilles was dipped into the immortal river but his heel was left open, his only mortal spot, what the heck does that matter? I'm pretty damn sure I could live if someone shot me in the heel. Yeah, it would hurt, though...

I just know this stuff because my father used to watch the series all the time and I'd sometimes join in. It was a decent show for its time really.

Achilles was shot in the heel by an arrow. Paris shot the arrow, and it was guided by the god Apollo. That's the only reason it hit him there; the only reason he was killed.
