Being a methodist isn't doing it for me anymore, i think i would find Catholicism more of a real faith. Also i've heard plenty of nay-saying, how about some pro's instead of cons

Unfullfillment as a reason of seeking a religion..dont waste your life, search within you what you need to be happy and go for it dude. Catholicism sucks, go for the indulgence (not compulsion).

Don't know many Catholics, do ya?

Catholicism is a versatile religion. It doesn't ask complete control like other sects, but there is also a significant presence of hierarchy and leadership, which appeals to some people(some people need order in their lives or they need to be told what to do and when to do it. Nothing wrong with that). Catholicism also allows for varying levels of disagreement with the Church. Regardless of what some protestants tell you, you wouldn't have to agree with and listen to everything the pope says. That's just false.

Harry Blackitt: Look at them, bloody Catholics, filling the bloody world up with bloody people they can't afford to bloody feed.

Mrs. Blackitt: What are we dear?

Harry Blackitt: Protestant, and fiercely proud of it.

Mrs. Blackitt: Hmm. Well, why do they have so many children?

Harry Blackitt: Because... every time they have sexual intercourse, they have to have a baby.

Mrs. Blackitt: But it's the same with us, Harry.

Harry Blackitt: What do you mean?

Mrs. Blackitt: Well, I mean, we've got two children, and we've had sexual intercourse twice.

Harry Blackitt: That's not the point. We could have it any time we wanted.

Mrs. Blackitt: Really?

Harry Blackitt: Oh, yes, and, what's more, because we don't believe in all that Papist claptrap, we can take precautions.

Mrs. Blackitt: What, you mean... lock the door?

Harry Blackitt: No, no. I mean, because we are members of the Protestant Reformed Church, which successfully challenged the autocratic power of the Papacy in the mid-sixteenth century, we can wear little rubber devices to prevent issue.

Mrs. Blackitt: What d'you mean?

Harry Blackitt: I could, if I wanted, have sexual intercourse with you...

Mrs. Blackitt: Oh, yes, Harry.

Harry Blackitt: ...and, by wearing a rubber sheath over my old feller, I could insure... that, when I came off, you would not be impregnated.

Mrs. Blackitt: Ooh.

Harry Blackitt: That's what being a Protestant's all about. That's why it's the church for me. That's why it's the church for anyone who respects the individual and the individual's right to decide for him or herself. When Martin Luther nailed his protest up to the church door in fifteen-seventeen, he may not have realised the full significance of what he was doing, but four hundred years later, thanks to him, my dear, I can wear whatever I want on my John Thomas...

[sniff]

Harry Blackitt: ... and, Protestantism doesn't stop at the simple condom. Oh, no. I can wear French Ticklers if I want.

Mrs. Blackitt: You what?

Harry Blackitt: French Ticklers. Black Mambos. Crocodile Ribs. Sheaths that are designed not only to protect, but also to enhance the stimulation of sexual congress.

Mrs. Blackitt: Have you got one?

Harry Blackitt: Have I got one? Uh, well, no, but I can go down the road any time I want and walk into Harry's and hold my head up high and say in a loud, steady voice, 'Harry, I want you to sell me a condom. In fact, today, I think I'll have a French Tickler, for I am a Protestant.'

Mrs. Blackitt: Well, why don't you?

Harry Blackitt: But they - Well, they cannot, 'cause their church never made the great leap out of the Middle Ages and the domination of alien Episcopal supremacy.

Why would you want to convert to Catholicism? If you believe in God, why would you want to enter a religion that not only degrades and insults the nature of God, (God was a baby, God died for Other peoples sins, God lived as a man, God is in the image of man, God is the Father, God is the Son, God has a mother, etc)but blasphemies openly with false inventions?

Wouldn't it be better to worship one, pure, all powerful, infinite, present God with no Intercessors or middle men? Or a Religion that does not promote blasphemous concepts about the ultimate and sublime nature of God?

:-D Monty Python fans in da house!

I really to appreciate your intellectual humor; and I think it's a shame no one else has recognized it and its relevancy to this post.

As for the original poster - I do not follow the Catholic faith because I feel it puts way too much emphesis on "traditions" to a point in which it isn't even entirely biblical - telling me that Mary is the "co-redeemer" and working my way into heaven.

If you are tired of the litergy (via way the service is adminstered) go find a methodist church that meets your needs. I don't think it's very mature to switch from one church to another of vastly conflicting doctrine because being a methodist "doesn't cut it for you."

Why don't you try a youth church? Those are quite exciting.

Catholicism as more of a real faith? You're kidding, I hope...

Catholicism is a religion based on tradition more than faith itself. I know this because 1. I'm Catholic and 2. I was educated in the Catholic School System. Not fun. Not bad, but not fun either.

I don't know much about the faith of other sects, but I doubt that switching will help you.... well, at least to the Catholic faith. Unless you LIKE feeling guilty all the time... in which case, the Jewish faith has us beat, but I think we're second for guilt. Either way, you might want to think twice about switching.

I had fun at Catholic school, but then again, I went to a rich Catholic school(think Notre Dame feeder school), not some Immaculate heart of Mary school in the inner city.

Abrahim, that answers so many questions I had about you that it's not even funny.

Yeah, I was in the inner-city schools. It was just drilling, for the most part--nobody was taught how to [i] think [i] and I was always getting kicked out of religion class for being a "wisecrack."

At the same time, though, my friends were in the office with me, and we're still friends now, so I guess it works out

I went to the Convent of Visitation in Minnesota, I didn't participate in religion class but sat in there, didn't do the homework but wasnt held to do it, and attended mass but did not take the cracker or the wine lol.

A major reason i want to convert is that to the best of my understanding Catholics have a solid foundation of beliefs and traditions, imagine being in a faith where no matter how many times i ask i can't get a straight answer as to what exactly i worship, how i go to heaven, how i can be forgiven for my inevitable sins, or what exactly i'm not allowed to do with my time...I'm a believer and somewhat strong in my faith but so far no religon i encounter has been able to help me,

A perfect catholic would have what you described. The church has become weakened, tainted, and being devout has been warped into a sad shadow of what it once was. In 1950 I would have told you to convert without hesitation... now I warn that it isn't what I should be or used to be. Christianity in general has been declining in power and resolve for the last 200 years... but now in the lst 35 years it is falling faster than did lucifer.

In my time I have been into pantheism, atheism, shamanism, and all sorts of other shite as well, but when I was 19 I converted to Catholicism, and I can tell you that I firmly believe that it is the one and only True Faith, because of my experiences within the Faith itself. What caused me to convert was nothing to do with anyting anybody said to me, or preached at me, or anyhting I read in a book - it came from what I felt, what I was COMPELLED to feel, I guess would be the best way to describe it.

If you are serious about converting to Catholicism, I would like to help you/talk with you about it - email me at trichocereus_pachanoi@hushmail.com

God Bless,

Tri.

Vatican II has produced some fruits better left alone, I agree... however the Faith itself is Truth, and Truth never changes. One who approaches Catholicism in all earnesty and with the purest of intentions will find what they are looking for. A definite must do for any prospective convert, is to research the Traditional Catholic Faith - attend the Tridentine Mass, etc. The Catechism of Pope St Pius X is a particularly good source of information. I have it at home, although I am what you owuld term a "NOvus Ordo" Catholic, but I definitely prefer the Traditions of the Faith.

God can do anything. He can become a baby, yet still be the one God. There is nothing wrong with that.

Every baby is a part of God, every sliver of grass , every grain of sand, every atom and what is smaller.

Yes it is a Blasphemy to say God the All Mighty had a SON, who is also HIM, who DIED, for the sins of OTHER people. This is not only a blasphemy, it is an outright lie, and if you can think to yourself for a moment you will realize this.

God forgives sins, not babies or dead men, God is far beyond what you claim and invent and what your forefathers claimed and invented: God is 1, if you will make division, then make it accurately, because God is not 3, or 4, or 6, you will never be able to appoint a number to God's infinite attributes and all that is within God and part of God, the number can only be 1.

Ask GOD for forgiveness, a man dying doesn't clear you of anything, you are responsible, your responsibility is to yourself, your communication is to God.

God is not in the image of man, man is not in the image of God: God is not limited to a form, all limited forms are within God the infinite and ultimate.

I dont know how anyone can still be Catholic and still in anyform support the same heiracrhy that was involved with the sexual abuse scandal of little boys. Not only was it so abslotultly disgusting how many preists were abusing and absolutltly distroying those childerns lives. But the fact that the heirarchy in that church covered it up. They simply moved these priest to some other disoceyes ( i dont know how to spell it). Even amongst criminal child molesters are veiwed as the lowest form of behabior in society and are more often than not killed in prison or they have to do their time in protective custody. And yet here was the Church who was supposed to uphold the values and ideals of truth and honesty and intergrity and to protect children and sexual purity. The church was supposed to be a beacon of light in a dark and sinnful world. Yet here was that same church protecting these perverts to avoid a scandal. These officals destroyed childrens lives with their ( i cant even think of a word that describes how disgusting this is to me). How anyone could think that this is the kind of the organization that you wouuld want to join and follow is beyond me.

Maybe it's because one rotten apple doesn't spoil the whole bunch. Yeah it's corny, but it rings true.

Nothing will change or take back the truly horrific and traumatising actions of those priests, but the actions of a few(very few) isn't reason to condemn the rest.

It's a black mark, but at least the Church is trying to settle their problems now.

According to most sects of Christianity: You are a sinner despite how hard you might try, and that you are destined to burn in hell for all eternity unless you accept Jesus Christ as your lord and savior who died for your sins on the cross, that is the only way to get to Heaven and be absolved of your sins which you are bound to comitt no matter how hard you try.

This is perhaps not what all Christians believe but most I've talked to have said this. I disagree completely with this, We are not Born Sinners or from Sin, we are Born innocent, we are fully capable of living good lives without sin on the path of God, to God.
