And the earth brought forth grass, [and] herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed [was] in itself, after his kind: and God saw that [it was] good.

Genesis 1:12, The Bible

This verse says that God created herb yielding seed...and "saw that it was good" So why do all the Christians have a problem with marijuana? God made it, who are they to say that it is "bad"?

And here I thought you were going to come up with a semi interesting question such as "Why does the bible say 'the earth' brought forth plants and not God directly?"

Using your reasoning God made Hemlock so it must be good, go eat some and find out.

The word herb(marijuana) is very vague.

That passage could equally be valid in the creation of penicillin which saved hundreds of thousands of lives when it was discovered.

God didnt create marijuana. He created an envoironment for living organisms to flourish and one of gazillions of plants happens to be Marijuana

Not all christians contradict themselves. In fact I would say there is no direct contradiction.

Rastafarians smoke marijuana (edit: This was a pretty sweeping staement .. some rastafarians smoke ... same with pretty much every type of christian I'd guess). I personally know a couple of christians who smoke.

I believe the opposition arises in that the bible commands you to treat your body as a temple (If you want direct sources ask Digi ,she'll know ,probaly several other christians on here as well). Smoking weed is harmful so it could be seen as bad in that it could damage the "temple".

Of course you could argue that if you ate it you bypassed smoking it and so there was no problem. I suppose against that ,though, you could say that it had an effect on mental health etc.

I believe that sikhism ,or hinduism (c'mon ,I have no idea what day it is ,don't ask me to be specific) prohibit smoking.. but you could still legitimately eat it ... I'm not entirely sure about that ...

It's all based on interpretation ,you could theoretically make the bible agree to anything or disagree to anything ... I may try that .. hmm....

also as a christian you are supposed to obey god's law and the law of the land. so if it isn't against the bible you still can't break the earthly law, because that is against the bible.

Not all things of the Earth are good for the health. Where did the bible say to take the herb and inhale fumes from it to "get high" so that you end up in the bathroom talking to the toilet "God, I know we don't talk much, but, I just wanted to say, I love you man, I love you for takin all that shit I give you, and I want to apologize, do you forgive me?" *flush*

But what of all the positive effects of "getting high"?

Intoxication can be a tool to enlightenment ,how many times have you been stoned and suddnyl everything has made sense? How many times have you considered how things work and found it beautiful?

Intoxication can be used to appreciate God's universe, laying on a beach staring at the stars and feeling the earth move beneath me was one of the best experinces of my life ,feeling that everything can be forgiven ... Drugs are bad because people make them bad ,teach people how to use drugs properly .. and the badness goes.

Those are good points, no doubt intoxications has its utilities, but it also has its harms, and I believe that a person should be able or try their best to "Figure out things" and "make sense of things" in a state of sober meditative thought, or in a flash, without the use of foreign and deliberate "mind altering" chemicals into the brain.

One has those chemical capacities within themselves alright, and the brain is a powerful tool, to be respected, and utilized.

I believe it is more positive for the functioning of the body overall to not use drugs, fumes, alchohol, injected substances, though they do have their utility, their harm in my opinion is greater.

I find it is more positive to naturally, without the use of foreign agents to deliberately alter the thought processes of the brain or enhance chemical reactions, to meditate on something and actually figure it out. Appreciate the Stars without Drugs. Be Social, Funny, Interesting, Without alcohol. That is the way I prefer and reccomend to all.

I never said anything about smoking marijuana...I know that smoking is bad for you, and I think the bible says something about not smoking. But there are other ways of using marijuana, like cooking with it.

A lot of the people who have posted in this topic are assuming that i'm talking about smoking marijuana and also abusing marijuana.

There is a difference between "use" and "abuse," I'll admit that marijuana is abused by the majority of "users" out there, and that is probably the reason why it is still illegal. But there are some of us that have self-control and use it in moderation to improve our lives. I don't see what could be considered wrong about that.

Do what is good for your health, if Marajuana, has more benefits in eating it than harm, then so be it, if it is a poison and the body reactes to it as a toxin then don't.

Hmm... you've just gained some points there son ... Keep going this way ,it's what the god truly love.

Also ,to your earlier post .Abrahim:

I won't argue that intoxication has it's harms. And I'm not really suggesting that drugs should be used to substitute sober meditation ,but there are advantages to it.

And I do appreciate things without drugs , and I'm appalingly Funny without alchol (Forums drain my edge ... In fact , some would say I'm a spoon , but I'm probaly of those sharpned spoons in reality)... I giggle like a little girl at breezes ...

But bugger it ,can I support drugs in a way of pros and cons besides ,"I like'um!one11!"? Probaly not.

Errmm... there was a point to this.
