I'd like to know that. Since arguing with Shqiptar in a thread a while back and reading an article in the paper about a teacher in Saudi Arabia who got a prison sentence and 800 lashes for teaching evolution, I take it that Islam is not very savy with science. Although I'm sure Shia Islam is more lineant than Sunni Islam, as Iran has the nuclear controversery and they've been dabbling in cloning.

Islam is a religion of reason and encourages science. Sufi Islam and quantum physicists have the same view on how the world works. I heard that the top 3 quantum physicists in the world converted to Islam.

You can google it if you want. 'quantum physics sufi'.

Islam is religion of propaghanda and fear-installment. If something does not have to do with Allah then kill it, especially Science.

I find it funny how you guys seem to think Muslims base their entire worldview on their religion. Sure, it has an influence, but you're obviously going to have some heterogenity. There will be the fanatical creationists (just like in Christianity) and there will be the logical scientists (just like in Christianity).

This thread is pointless, but we should make fun of the OP for suggesting some dude got 800 lashes.

Ok, I retract my statement. I wasn't aware that the 750 lashes were going to be distributed over a period of 15 weeks.

Interesting. But why don't they include quotes from the Koran on that site? And I can't find any other sources of this aside from Islamic websites.

In the middle east, Islam is like your life. Everything is supposed to have something to do with Islam. It's like a way of life.

A few years ago I had an excellent website bookmarked. It had many quotes from the Qur'an talking about things only recently discovered by scientists. How light penetrates water, the numbber of layers of the womb, and a lot of other things. I'm still looking for it.

Yeah. My history textbook said that Muslim scientists were all over optics in the middle ages.

islam was actually what paved the way for modern science. greeks had math and science and all that, at the beginning, but once europe became all religious, they didnt know jack about science and math until the enlightenment. the only reason science and math was able to make its way back to europe was because the muslims in the middle east held on to it, when europe threw it away for religion, and refined it.

thats why names like algebra (al'jibra) and alchemy (al'chemie) have arabic type nomenclature. plus, most of the plants and herbs used as medication back in the days were from the middle east all the way to china.

also, back in the dark ages, the top universities were in muslim populated areas like iraq and spain. spain being mainly the madrid (madj'rit) area, which still has its muslim district to this day.

if it werent for the constant attacks by the mongols and the added pestering by the christian crusaders, muslims would probably still embrace science as much as they embrace their prophet; as they did back in the day.

muslims pretty much started science way back, but got the shit beaten out of em from various invaders and became somewhat less gloryfull.

Anyway, islam strongly encourages science, there is nothing against it.

As for the relations between science and allah, it goes like this:

science works according to islam, etc, everything we discover ist rue. Your not blaspheming by doing physics. You jsut have to realise that allah created the world with tis physics at the big bang, and while god isnt controllying thunder, god did make the physics behind thunder so it could happen.

Yeah, Islam was pretty savy with science like 1000 years ago. They got surpassed by the Europeans.

I think modern day Islam could use more science or maybe just rationality.

Islam fully supports research and innovation. The problem today is the way Islamic countries have turned out due to socio economic influences. I've lived in Pakistan for 8 yrs so I have a jist of the psychology behind islamic countries.

The prophet pbuh used to send some people during war times and out of war times to research new weapons and what not, according to what I know. There is a concept known as Bida'h that exists in Islam about innovation in worship, and that is there for social reasons. If you have people creating all sorts of ways of praying eventually the whole ritual will become a game and what not. Islam has nothing against meditation or what not but the word Bida'h is being confused with innovative models of thinking. Creativity isn't being used when thinking of result-oriented solutions.

Islam is HUGE on science and its credibility is greatly enhanced by it. From the way it talks about how in Hell the skin will be burnt off and then recreated hinting at the workings of a nervous system under the skin, something people did not know at tha ttime. Also about oil under the black sea or bahrain sea i forgot, and the way embryos form, is very precise and has led many to convert.

Islamic systems were followed more precisely in the past and the way islam works in my opinion is based on intention. its way too complicated to discuss islam in a threat but id like to say a few more things

You will see many political wars in the future due to this israeli hatred of islam and vice versa. Quantum reality is really complicated and that is what i think the quran is hinting at. the universe is not deterministic and how things exist in relation to each other in quantum fields. We can't really 'guarantee' anything is the bottom line. God controlling everything doesnt mean we should be lazy and just accept fate, that's bullshit. Islam is really also about unity and tapping into the neuroscience of things. Its psychology is AMAZING. ive been praying for 4 years now and have developed abilities to feel out various levels of happinesses and contentment and lust and what not and you can really see how it works. islam is about tapping into the psychology and what not. the reason its a way of life is because the idea is to restrict desire which can lead to several problems. haha im blabbering about too many ideas at once but it really takes a long time to fully understand it.

Islam as a man made religion is probably against science. The Qur'an, the book of Islam, is not against science, tells people to learn and gain knowledge, TALKS ABOUT EVOLUTION, Development of life in the oceans, the layers of the atmosphere and crusts of the earth, a description of a microscopic phase of embryo development. Orbits, black holes in space, cosmic gasses, the development of earth and its phases (accurately described throughout the text in various places) and much more. The Qur'an is NOT against science in any way.

God in the Qur'an is not the humanized God propagated by modern muslims or the kind in man's image found in the bible. In the Qur'an God is "Reality" (Al-Haq) Everything is within it, nothing is without it, everything is part of it, made of it, it is in control of everything in the way that Reality is.

If people read the Qur'an carefully they will find it is scientifically accurate and positive in teachings. The modern man made religion of Islam is not following its book but rather man made books called HADITHS which claim to be stories about the Prophet. These books are unverifiable lies which most people even non muslims accept as truth without any proof.
