Because i believe we are just another species on this earth to pass on our genes to the next generation and keep the human race alive for as long as possible.

Because of our higher brain function we somehow think we are so special only a god couldve made us and not evolution, the only way early man could explain certain things was to create a hugher being that controlled them...and its carried on.

There is no god, we are born, we live, we die, we rot....end of.

...of course there is no God. Anyone that believes that they will go to paradise when they die will be very disapointed when nothing happens. It's ok religious people, you can have the government control your thoughts by not doing "sins" and never have any fun in your life. When the world is ending, and you realize that your god won't save you, I'll be there, laughing in your face.

Well yeah, but at least I will be happy that they are rotting in a coffin instead of spending their life in their imaginary paradise.

I have yet to find any religion that is both consistent with itself and my perception of reality.

Thus, while I don't actively posit that there is no god, I am certainly without theism.

Why won't He heal Joni Eareckson Tada? She's a godly woman, but sometimes bad things happen. You can either fall by the wayside or suck it up. There is a deeper purpose behind the scenes. You can either become a cynic and let life drag you under, or you can embrace whatever situation you find yourself in. You can either mock God or follow Him. Joni chose the latter.

Enough retoric bullshit. Seriously.

Stop acting like God makes your lives better, or not believing in God makes us heathens, and so on.

One rather strange thing I've eventually realized that I don't think anyone has ever pointed out before is this:

There is no good, moral, positive value in faith.

If you are weak minded and spirited, your belief might help you to do things, but again, there is nothing good about it itself. You can go on and on, and I'm sure you will ignore this and you will, about how it makes you a better person, but that would be ignoring my point completely.

Faith is just that: A belief. It doesn't make you better then anyone else, it doesn't make you more righteous, etc. It's just something you believe in.

Just because we don't believe in your God does not mean we are cynical, or pessimistic, or let life push us around, or give up. If anything, we are that much stronger then believers for not being dependent on faith.

You need to stop saying things like that.

16And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

17Speak unto Aaron, saying, Whosoever he be of thy seed in their generations that hath any blemish, let him not approach to offer the bread of his God.

18For whatsoever man he be that hath a blemish, he shall not approach: a blind man, or a lame, or he that hath a flat nose, or any thing superfluous,

19Or a man that is brokenfooted, or brokenhanded,

20Or crookbackt, or a dwarf, or that hath a blemish in his eye, or be scurvy, or scabbed, or hath his stones broken;

21No man that hath a blemish of the seed of Aaron the priest shall come nigh to offer the offerings of the LORD made by fire: he hath a blemish; he shall not come nigh to offer the bread of his God.

22He shall eat the bread of his God, both of the most holy, and of the holy.

23Only he shall not go in unto the vail, nor come nigh unto the altar, because he hath a blemish; that he profane not my sanctuaries: for I the LORD do sanctify them.

It's easy discrediting god if he is described by christians. As in my above post, I understand that their is no physical proof for either beliefs and find it funny when people blame things on god when we are the ones that control what happens on earth. At least what happens between humans anyways. We must learn to blame ourselves and not god.

What proof is there for a deity except a lot of wishful thinking and shifty ancient texts?

I have no reason to believe in a deity, and if there was a deity, it’s not like how we picture it, so there’s no point in me worshipping something I know nothing about.

Religious beliefs come with morality patterned around how the specific god would act. In most cases, the god acts upon good intentions. The religion therefore spurs people forth to commit good deeds. Is that really such a bad thing?

I believe in God, but I don't follow any organized religion. I don't have any real reasons for believing other than a gut feeling. I don't base my life around Him or anything, but I have faith.

I don't think I'm better than anybody who isn't faithful or doesn't share my beliefs; it doesn't matter what you choose.

I think that everyone, who is religious, hates the fact that one day, one day soon, they will be no more. They want to believe that there is something better out there. Something more divine and pure. Some place that has no downsides, no death, no anger, no frustration and most of all no pain. People who say they have "seen" the light are having hallucinations of what their brains picture their "heaven" ect. to be like. All in all, though, I don't mind peoples religions. But Adam and Eve pisses me off.

I don't believe in God. Mainly because I think it's obvious that whether there is or is not any supernatural being, the one most people worship isn't one I'd be willing to accept as mine.

The probability of something appearing out of nowhere to create the universe and that of the universe manifesting itself are equally low. I don't think we can understand existence any better by devaluing research in exchange for an easy explanation--a "God."

There’s just no room in the way I see the world for the existence of a God or Supreme Being. It just doesn’t work, on so many levels

I could probably go on for hours about it, but a good deal of my reasoning has already been mentioned in this thread.

I'm agnostic, I don't have enough information or experience to be able to form a solid opinion on what's going on.

However, in my limited knowledge and experience, I've begun to suspect that there is in fact a Grand Design of some kind to the universe, that there is some intelligence behind it. Certain events which I've observed or have happened to me don't seem to be adequately explained by coincidence and probabilities, and seem to have purpose behind them. Things have happened to me which give me compelling reasons to suspect There's Something Going On.

Also, just look around. Look at this world, look at people, and look at this universe. Really look at it. The greater your perspective, the more there seems to be an intelligent, purposeful pattern.

Maybe there is no god or purpose to life, the universe, and everything... but to be honest, I get a gut feeling there is. And the older I get, the stronger that feeling gets.

I do not believe in any god, and I feel that people who cling strongly to religion are just afraid of the world and the bad things in it. They tell themselves that they will go to heaven etc. if they follow a god because they are unable to cope with what is happening in this terrible place.

I am content in myself and the life I lead. My morals have no spiritual connection, I do what I feel is for the better as opposed to what is laid down in a text thousands of years old.

Also I have my more unpopular views on religion - namely about the chokehold the Catholic church has on many people in the world. Like any large scale organisation, it is all about money and control.

As I have said before, I would give up nearly everything I own to be able to delve into the Vatican archives.

Religion, if necessary at all, should be about freeing people, not constricting them.

At the same the same time I recognise and respect people's rights to believe and practise their chosen religion, its all PERSONAL choice - No one has the right to inflict their beliefs on other people.

I agree with the thought of an organized universe. It seems to me to be far too unlikely for us to have spontaneously just appeared. Creation is the proof of God's existance, and i'm not sure about proof of the Big Bang linking science to creationism but it seems rather likely. If anyone has any information on that i would like to hear that. Btw i am not exactly sure how to use quotes. Anyone want to help me out?

Do you have any proof that he doesn't exist? I mentioned earlier that I believe that creation is proof, and by faith I also belief in God. I don't know if i'm right or not, but when I see facts that seem relevant to the proof of something i believe it. Unless it's certainly disproved I will still believe it. And i don't quite understand why it would be necessary to abolish him. Is it because you are wrong and would not like to admit it? Would it be such a bad thing that your intellect was disproven? We become more intelligent by understanding our wrong views and correcting them. And by the way, swearing shows a lack of vocabulary and is a way that a feeble mind tries to express itself forcefully. I would recommend working on that, just to help you out...

You should read the essay 'proofs of god' by Martin Gardner, it's from a book of collected essays called 'the night is large'.

Scratch that, everyone should read it.

There is order in this universe. Atoms, molecules, light waves. And with order comes purpose. Anything that is organized inherently has a purpose. When was the last time you alphabatized your notes or color coded your socks for no reason?

There are more complexities in religion than most people come to notice. Philosophy, astrophysics, logic, history, psychology. I'm still trying to take it all in.

Thankyou for proving my point; swearing does not have a thing to do with my intellectual abilities. Swearing does not mean anything, its your brain that strigs it together and interpets it with your rediculus moral ideology.

Back to the question of God. Even if Yahweh existed and the whole trinity, I still would not accept him/them/it.

Why?

Yahweh pisses me off. Face it, Yahweh if he really exists is an evil and murdering god. He is a narcissistic jerk. He murders, enslaves, and has a foreskin fetish.
