Answer these questions in sequence with a YES or NO and tell me what u think:
1) Is GOD all powerfull?
2) Can he create any stone he chooses, no matter how big or how small?
3) Can he move any stone he chooses, no matter how big or how small?
4) Can he create a stone so big that not even he can move it?
Answers that will not be excepted:
1)He wouldn't do that.
2)Why would he want too?
Answer and post replies.

If the answer to the first question is "YES" then the answer to the fourth must be "NO"
PS I love these new guys.

Im Jewish, but I think this might work for the Christian God.
The fact of the matter is that the G-d is so far out of our comprehension that the sentence does not apply to him. The G-d does not create in any human conception of the word, nor does he lift in the normal human conception. The question itself does not apply to the G-d.
Zen Buddhists believe that language is inaquiped to explain concept such as "enlightenment" in the same way, Language cannot be used to explain(or question) the G-d.

Finally some intelligent answers to a paradox that I have asked many people.
You would be surprised how many Christians don't comprehend the word "HYPOTHETICAL".

That answer has come up once or twise, but still not all that common.
What I'm shooting for is to get people to actually think about the question.
It's a paradox that was thought up to show the mis-use of the term "All Powerful".
If you read the questions and think about them, you'll see that Gods own powers would contradict each other in this case.
Eureka!!!!
I due believe that I have just made it clear how screwed up the Bible got in the translation from Hebrew to Latin to Greek to English!!

I'm what you would call "Agnostic", meaning that I don't know exactly what I believe in, just that there is a higher power and I have to learn more to better understand it.

Yea, you got a point, just because we have physical evidence that nothing can be truly all powerful, doesn't necessarily mean that a being that you have never seen is capable of breaking every law of physics (even though these powers God has would in fact contradict themselves) doesn't exist.
Bravo on your amazing assumption on something that you have been taught to you by someone who's IQ is probably an unheard of fraction of a P.H.D. certefied scientist who goes along with the Theory of Evolution.
I applaud your incredible insight!!!!

I'm most inclined to agree with Sharule's premise.
One, you are using physical terms to apply to a Being that is not physical. Secondly, if God exists, then all the rules are in His court, and He can do as He pleases. All-power would grant Him the ability to be weak. According to Christianity, He came humbly to the earth, in the form of weakness (man), born lowly in a manger full of barnyard animals, only to surrender His life as a ransom. Why? In order to prove His limitless power. Therefore, I don't think our human philosophy could ever match the mind of God...... But that's just me.
Discuss.

Who says He has to obey physics? He created physics. The answer to the OP: He can create a rock as big as He wants, AND He can still move it. I don't see the contradiction here.

Why did you type the first 'God' in full and the rest of the time you used 'G-d'? is there a differnce between the Christian God and the G-d?

He contradicts his own powers in the fact that if he can still move the rock, he CAN'T make it too big for him to move it.
On the reverse, he would make it so big that he COULD NOT move it.

It would be very difficult anyone to explain their answers to your questions. However, If I (or anyone else) were to make claim that G-d is all-powerful/omnipotent then the answer to all four questions would be "Yes", despite the contradiction between the first 3 questions and question 4.

The question was designed to be like that that. It is a paradox that disproves the term "All Powerful". Basically, from a logical point of view, there can be no truly all powerful being as their own powers would limit each other.
Of course I'm in no way suggesting that it is absolute. It is just a fun little hypothosis to think about. I realize that there are many things that we may never understand, but I do find it ammusing to question the norm and make other people think as well.
Good job deathfromafar. Something that can explain both sides in detail. If you actually read the explanation of this particular paradox, then you will see how both can be right. But as far as religion goes, I'm still Agnostic and wish to further my knowledge before making any commitment.

God was so much cooler back in the old testament, he really showed A&E not to fuck around.

Because Sharule follows the laws of God. Its alittle bit of "No graven images" and "using Gods name in vain" is why Sharule doesn't actually write out the word God. Its the same rule Christians are suppose to follow, but they are way beyond breaking those laws of God.
To make it even worse I'll write out Gods name... YHWH YHVH Yahweh El Elohim I AM ... this should be bothering Sharule by now.

But then he can't be all powerful if he can't create a rock so big.

The logic of the question in its self is flawed. Read through the wikipedia article posted above.

Somewhere far beyond
|
|
1) Is GOD all powerfull?
To Christians, yes
2) Can he create any stone he chooses, no matter how big or how small?
To Christians, yes
3) Can he move any stone he chooses, no matter how big or how small?
To Christians, yes
4) Can he create a stone so big that not even he can move it?
To Christians, no, but, that itself creates a paradox, with an easy escape. If god himself can create a rock he cannot move, and he can move everything else, dose it not stand to reason that he can move everything else to make it appear as if the rock had moved even if it had not?

I dont really care if you write out the Tetragrammaton. Youre a goyim, so you dont need to follow that law. Only Jews are required to hold it with such caution. Anyhow, some Rabbi's believe that the true name is 72 letters long, or even over 200 letters(Hebrew letters, so that doesnt count vowels.) Theory goes that only the High Priests knew the name, and with the destruction of the Temple, it was lost. But anyhow, writting G-d is a sign of respect more than anything, it has nothing to do with 'taking the L-rd's name in vain', which only applies to the true name.
I seperate the Christian God from the Jewish G-d because they are seperate, Christian conceptions of the divine are different from Jewish ones.
