Now the very few smart christians Ive seen are here on totse and my girlfriend. Oh yeah, btw I wrote a topic here awhile ago on wether or not my christian girlfriend would dump me for being an athiest and I think a few people "assured" me that I would be dumped, Well were getting married in about a year so whoever said that "up yours, you stupid fucker"

Anyway back to my qeustions. How do you feel about the mojority of christians that make you look like idiots? y'know the one that couldnt argue themselves out of a box. My other qeustion is that if greek mythology was the word of the day and today we laugh at there gods. How do christians feel that most likley and almost inevitibly people from our future will look at the bible and feel the same way?

kinda showing your ass here.

the truth is, theres not much of a reason for most adults to be able to argue. mainly because ppl have come to a grudging mutual respect.

i for one beleive in god. that you dont is fine with me. however, im also not going to debate the existance or not of god. i dont give a fuck what you beleive.

the only time im bothered by ppls opinions on christianity and religions in general is when they pull the shit youre pulling: being a wise assed irritating prick.

i dont like being insulted. i dont think this is a hard concept to grasp.

you dont beleive in god? great. but you appear to be about 14 years old making threads like these.

you do realize that no one is impressed with your regurgitated opinion right?

if youre in this much of a desperate need to get some attention, then you need help. otherwise, whatever it is youre trying to accomplish here, besides being seen as an asshole, isnt working.

Im sorry if you feel im trying to make fun of you but if you actually beleive my intentions were to insult you then YOU are the one with the problem. Fuck you. anyway back to my second qeustion, Who has something to say Disproving the myth theory

a good majority of the reason why the old religions are dead or virtually so is because the state/govt or other power of the time mandated a conversion.

barring that, its going to be a very long time till christianity in its various forms are going to be relegated to that level of obscurity. saying it ever happens.

and yes, it is possible that it wont.

as for my supposedly mistaking you, in your initial post you make the assertion that most christians are ignorant and only a few are above room temperature IQ.

given that and the overall tenor of your post, i dont think its hard to see that a person might mistake your meaning, if thats indeed what happened.

After reading my post again I see what you mean. I apoligize, I simply heard that argument from somewhere and wanted to ask totse about it, I thought it was an interesting point (greek reference). Your definitly cool in my book for coming back and replying with a less hostile tone the second time around even though its clear you still dont beleive it was unintentional. But you must admit one thing, Having bush on your side doesnt halp the matter, right? LoL

Edit: Btw, If it's any consilation, Most people think Im a complete idiot

I feel that the biggest detriment to Christianity has been Christians.

That said, we all fall short of the glory of God in one way or another.

The best we can do is educate, and correct. As long as we are sure that God is behind our words, we will never be wrong, and we can take refuge in the knowledge that we are helping, and not harming.

I wish people claiming to be Christian would spend more time studying their Bible. Not to keep us all from looking stupid based on their ignorance, but because a fulfilling relationship with our Creator is to be had from understanding Him as much as we possibly can.

With that understanding comes an undeniable desire to do His will.

If we could all do this...oh, what a wonderful world it would be.

The best thing we can do is drink and get drunk. As long as I am sure that my ass is behind my cock, I will always be pimpin, and I can take refuge in the knowledge that I am fucking hos.

I wish people claiming to be gay would spend more time studying their Bible. Not to keep us all from looking like complete faggots based on their homosexuality, but because a homosexual relationship with our Creator is to be had from understanding Him as much as we possibly can.

With that understanding comes an undeniable desire to suck His dick.

Any religion has it's fanatics. For this I will take specificially Catholics. Catholic families tend to grow up, especially instilling their own beliefs on their children, telling them that is it right to imbue catholocism onto non believers. While this is good for the religion in terms of members, the view on the religion will be diminished. It's not that the people are stupid, it's just that many have grown up and have only known one "truth." They try and convert people, have lack of information in their arguments, and in any debate are biased toward's themselves. Catholics tend to be very violent (Use this term loosely) in terms of defending their religion. They believe they are right, and are trying to save everyone from the devil. They try and protect everyone from evil, spirits, and heretics.

Granted lots of religious people are of average intelligence, there will be stupid ones, but by the same side of the coin, there WILL be smart, rational people. I myself have defended AND attacked christianity from different and like parties while either a member of the church or a self proclaimed athiest. It's definatly not a matter of grouping the whole church as stupid or smart, ignorant or rational, but merely a sample of the members in question.

Anyone can believe anything given the right conditions. Parents' religions are likely be passed on to their children.

Matthew 7:7-8 - "Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened."

If I ask Him to use me for His will, including the teaching of others about His word, then I can be sure He will grant me that privilege, since it is in accordance with His will.

1 Corinthians 5:20 - "Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God."

Matthew 28:19 - "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you."

Anyone who does not pray to God and ask for His guidance before teaching is probably teaching for the wrong reasons, and should cease doing so.

To answer your question, the reason I am certain is because I have experienced God on many levels. I know He is there, so I have no cause to disbelieve His word (Bible).

In my experience, the world operates only by absolute truth. Without it, chaos and disorder manifest. In truth, I see certainty.

Yes, sex makes everyone abandon God.

Your girlfriend sounds like she never knew God in the first place, which is actually right on par with a lot of Catholics.

Precisely why I abhor Catholicism (not Catholics).

Fuck that shit, Catholics aren't violent. You're thinking of Southern Baptist and all of that shit. Most people just think Catholics are going to try and convert them. All of the Catholics I know (trust me, I know quite a few-I attend a Catholic school) could care less if you're Catholic or not, as long as you don't insult their beliefs. (and that's standard for any religion).

That said, there are two basic types of Catholics: there are the reasonable ones (those who take the Bible as a faith book, which it is), and the unreasonable ones (those who take the Bible as a history book). The latter are you're crazy ye-shall-burn-in-hell/God-will-smite-thee and such.

there is no god they way many people perceive him to be. god is just a facade people put up so they can have something "concrete" to believe in. in reality, what people perceive to be god is nothing more than the manifestations of what we want. its kinda like when you were a kid, and you had an imaginary friend. you knew your imaginary friend was real, but in reality, you just made him up to compensate for whatever voids you have in your life.

is this a bad thing? it depends. do you know your imaginary friend is real, or do you know exactly what he is, and thats okay with you because he still helps you sleep at night?

the former is a bad thing. if you are absolutely certain that your imaginary friend exists, then no one can change your mind. when other people tell you your imaginary friend isn't real, or present ideas that conflict with your ideas about your imaginary friend, you cannot cope with it. this is the root of most of the religious conflicts today.

if, however, you realize that god is only what you make him to be, it doesn't matter. it doesn't matter that other people tell you about your imaginary friend, because in the end, you are still fulfilled. you are able to cope because you realize salvation is an internal thing, not decided by some almighty imaginary friend in the sky, and that the road to this salvation will be different for everybody.

this is where true enlightenment lies.

Finally someone compares greek mythology to christianity. A comparison ive been making for a long time. There so friggin similar, but people only view christianity different because there raised to except it. When you look at the text and read it outloud it is so similar to greek mythology.

Sad to say this, but yes, there are intelligent christians, its not their faith that makes them stupid, but its all about the upbringing. Even if the child is taught about mircales and people walking on water, they can still be intelligent in a different sort of way such as a programming prodigy. In my experience though, the few atheists or agnostic people I know are the smartest people I know. I am one of those atheists.

Greek myths are not usually laughed at. There's been an obvious trend in Renaissance to reconcile Greek mythology with Christianity.

Certain Greek myths were used to allegorise Christian ideals, but the success of the movement was rather limited I think. Christianity, from its very beginning, has experienced a polarity between its Jewish and Pagan roots.

Now I'm sorry for being against the book almighty, but I find the whole Heaven/Hell idea horribly skewed. Mostly because I don't want to accept the "fact" that lets say my spouse who I love with all my life goes to hell because she had an urge to eat meat on Fridays and I have to spend my idea of Heaven without her. That or God would want to lie to me.

Truthfully I don't think ANYBODY here is going to like my opinion, I myself don't believe Creation nor Evolution, rather I'm a fan of Intelligent Design. Now that I look at it, it's kind of like the happy medium between the two. Ironically, I'm agnostic.

Edit: I would like to note that I don't "believe" ID, but I like to entertain the idea during discussion over Creation or Evolution. Frankly I only believe what I've seen with my peepers :P.

I think its more the other way around. Usually the Atheists all gather round and bash the Xians.

First, regarding the question of the original post, of course there are many highly-intelligent Christians- and likewise for those of Muslim, Hindu, and other non-secular viewpoints. Aside from the social environment and culture one is exposed to (especially as a youth), if one were to relate spiritual belief to human traits or factors, they'd likely correlate most strongly with those of an emotional kind. In the cognitive sense, the tendancy to believe in religion or spirituality... whether these beliefs are valid or not... is more of an emotional phenomenon than it is "analytical" or "logical."

Whether a relationship between a guy who's an atheist and a spiritually-minded woman can work probably depends upon a lot of things, but as an atheist, I'll facetiously note that if I added a digit (or two) to my annual income and/or I looked like whoever all the women consider to be a "10" looks-wise these days... suddenly, an awful lot of women who would have otherwise said "Jesus guides my life, and I could never marry a man who doesn't believe in God" would say "Well, we have different views, but we love each other and that's the most important thing" or something like that. Sociologists studying married (or otherwise committed) couples demonstrated that money, looks, and a few other things correlate very, very strongly. That might not be a very pleasant thought to the romantic-minded, but that's the way the picture usually sizes up. Generally, we marry people according to our "market value." If you're working at Burger King right now... just become a plastic surgeon, move to Beverly Hills, and trade in the rusted-out Chevy you drive for one of those cool new Mercedes, and a lot of women who wouldn't give you the time of day before... would practically drag you to into the bedroom, no matter how big of a deal religion "used to" be.

Finally, regarding King_Cotton's "Atheists all gather round and bash the Xians" it might seem that way from what you see on the Internet, but the type of people who relentlessly "pound on" spirituality every chance they get set bad examples- most atheists aren't like that at all, and would take one look at a discussion board with the type of jerks who get their rocks off name-calling and reaming-out Christians, and switch to a different website. Debates, or reasonably courteous arguments are OK, but real nastiness... snideness, ridicule, name-calling, etc. .. are viewed as distasteful, inappropriate, and considered bullshit by most atheists. I've known quite a few atheists in person... most are notably open-minded, decent people, and respect other's views... many are some of the nicest people you'll meet. I've noticed that the few atheists who are real assholes to Christians like to kick people in the teeth who differ on politics, science... you name it... as well. It's not that they're atheists- they're just arrogant pricks- and they're an embarrassment.
