Ihate that definition of a religion. Using it, conservatism and liberalism are both religions. Hell, ecological awareness, or human rights are religions under that definition. I prefer to use religion as a subset of a belief, specifically, a belief that in some way deals with the afterlife. The only real difference is Confucism doesn't count as a religion (which is disputed anyway), and atheism only counts if that atheist does have a belief about the afterlife, that being nothingness, or whatever. I just like a line between a religion and a philosophy.

I'm an atheist who doesn't care what happens when I die. I have no idea what it will be, and I consider it irrelevant to my current life. My atheism is not a religion.

I think Confucianism should be characterized as a religion, because deep down it still deals with the spirit.

However, I agree with your assessment of atheism 100%, in that they hold strong to the belief that there is absolutely NOTHING after death.

This is a belief that cannot be verified by science, experience, or any historical text. It is a personal opinion, and supportable by NOTHING.

Atheism is a conscientious devotion to the DISBELIEF or DENIAL OF EXISTENCE of God. A belief that is pursued by the people I see on this very site, since they spend all their time trying to disprove Christianity.

It is a religion, by definition, because everything ELSE that is a conscientious devotion is considered as such.

Christianity is a conscientious devotion to the belief that there is a God.
