Default Evolution, at the same rate. question.

Whats it called when cultures evolve at the same rate, and have same features. EG: prymids, technology, all over the world around the same time?

I'm gonna take a stab at this:

Isolated Uniformal Evolution.

There probably is an actual word for this, but TotSE members may not know it.

Cultural diffusion can contribute to this, but I know that it's not the right answer.

duuuuuh, i don't know the definitive answer, so i'm going to take a stab, using my own thoughts, based on science.

ok, egyptian pyramids: they are used as tombs, are much taller than mayan pyramids, made from blocks of sandstone and limestone, they consist of a chamber in the middle and 1 or 2 tunnels which are sealed. they were supposed to guarantee the pharoas a place in the afterlife.

mayan pyramids: smaller than egyptian ones, built later on, not at the same time, elaborate decoration on the outside, and a room at the top used for human sacrifices, no one is buried in them.

these are the only kinds of pyramids i can think of.

they were't built at the same time, egyptian pyramids are built earlier, are larger than south american ones, they were built for entirely different purposes.

why pyramids?

think about it, they didn't have the technology we have today, they wanted to build something big and impressive, using the least ammount of materials possible, and make it tall, but make it strong so it won't fall down, they didn't have steel girders, or concrete in aincient times,

NOW what is the logical thing to do, if you want an impressive building, that won't fall down, that does not contain steel reinforcements, that is simple to build.

you build something that looks like a pyramid, its bigger at the bottom than the top, it won't fall down, its impressive looking.

Congratulations, you just didn't answer the question at all, AND made yourself look like a huge jackass in the process!

Well, he answered the question why people build pyramids. It is an easy way to build a large sturdy structure without much technology.

There are however several south american pyramids which are just as impressive as egyptian ones. I think they're more impressive, myself. And asian civilisations also built pyramids. Heres one from cambodia.

this is WAY OFF TOPIC.

All, I wanted to know is what it is called. when cultures evolve at the same rate, with the same kind of ideals.

What a bunch of illiterate monkies.

The original question had already been answered, I was just saying that he answered a question, even a related question. His answer was the reason behind this convergent evolution of architecture (pyramids) is because its a natural way to build a big strong structure. Same thing applies to other technologies. Same thing also applies in nature.

Societal synchronicity?

Cultural parallelism?

Cultural synchronicity?

"one could also argue that Historical Coincidence or societal synchronicity are of the same genre."

"In a display of cultural synchronicity, both the Cahuilla Bird Songs and traditional Mohave Creation Songs shared certain features that may have facilitated the process by which the Mohave adopted them."

thank you for defending me. pyramids was the only example of a technology he gave! he just said "same features. EG: prymids, technology, all over the world around the same time?" if he wants to provide other examples of technologies that evolved at the same time, i will be glad to try and explain why.

Twistedsoul your just anti-me because i don't subscribe to your superstitions/new age bullshit.

As it's written, that's a difficult question to answer.

The variables being the period in history your referring to. While there may have been similarities in early cultures, this would mainly be caused by a adaptive reaction to a climate change. One groups ideas and behaviours being brought to anothers by early explorers also accounts for similar traits, yet....

I'm really not aware of any 'EXACT' patterns of cultural change in early history.

Once technology, first by written word, then as we have now, closed the communication gap; similarities appear but still adapted and modified to ones specific culture. "Evolving" exactly by these means though, is not evolving but Learned Behaviour (cultural transmission for one).

Even today there a tremendous cultural differences between 'modern man'. You'd be hardpressed to find an example of simultaneous cultural evolution.

Of course maybe it's just me who can't quite pin down the specifics of your question. Sorry

Umm...whoever said they did, bushy?

Cultures only evolve when they are in contact, when there is communications between them. There are still cultures today that have no/primitive technologies. Are you looking for a term describing some "mass species-wide evolution"? The theory that if enough people learn a certain thing, they all will know it inherently? Doesn't work that way.

That's the Hundred Monkey Theory,

The theory says that when enough members of a group (for convenience stated as a hundred monkeys) acquire a certain piece of knowledge, this knowledge passes into the collective consciousness, and all members of the group acquire that knowledge.

So what makes you think there is some kind of synchronous human advancement?
