Default and what if god does not exist.

I hate those people who say. I believe in god because and then their excuse is "well if he isn't then I havent lost anything"

You have lost your whole damned life believing in something that isnt true folowing someone elses Ideals.

now don't get me wrong, I have read the bible, and I believe its a really good book, with a lot of positive messages. I dont deny that.

But if there is no god, you've wasted your life. not that im not wasting mine. im working on fixing it really hard. but i dont need god to fix my life. I can fix it myself.

If you want a deeper understanding about this topic, you should read about Pascal's Wager.

More importantly, how does someone believing in God affect you? Are you jealous?

Religious people are stupid. Stupid people affect a democratic society. A democratic society is a reflection of its citizens. If the majority of the citizens are idiots, that society is doomed to being stupid.

I don't know about you, but I don't want to live in a stupid society. Religion doesn't exist. I don't hate religion. But I call death upon all religious people.

It's not religion itself that is bad, it's what people do to perpetuate it.

I don't mind benign christians or muslums or whatever people want to be. I had a really good friend who was an extremely conservative muslum woman from Egypt. She wore a veil and prayed to the east and all of that. It didn't bother me, though, she never once tried to push her beliefs on anyone else. I had another friend who was a monk, but he died in a car accident.

There's nothing wrong with believing in God or Jesus or buddah or any of the other dieties. What's wrong is using those beliefs to excuse bad behavior and to try and force everyone else to believe in a certain religion.

Considering your life, maybe you DO need god.

You won't believe how many times I've heard that argument. I think my dad even used it to convince me to go to church.

I think it's obvious that "god" doesn't exist, and anyone who says differently cannot prove me wrong. And if you are even considering using arguments like "Things are too perfect for there not to be a god", then don't even bother posting.

If I have indeed wasted my life, then so what? Im not going to be sitting on a rock regretting all the things I missed for all eternity after I die.

That seems to be something you forget. Sure, you have indeed wasted your life by your definition, but since you cease to exist after it is all over makes it a null point anyway. You have no reference on how much your life is wasted, and that is why it doesnt matter.

Its rather difficult to retain your memory if you cease to exist... correct?

Bushy, the point is not hypothetically 'wasting your life'. It is finding happiness, peace, contentment. The essence of Christianity isn't painful self-restraint in the name of God. It is learning to give up things, to set aside greed, lust, anger, to become content. And to find happiness. To feel no guilt. To feel as though you have purpose. Many 'sins' aren't sins 'just because'. There is an underlying purpose. "Forgive others as I have forgiven you." The 2 biggest rules Jesus told his disciples were "Love the Lord with all your heart, soul, and mind. And love your neighbor as you love yourself."

It is about seeking peace and giving up our self-destructive desires and greed.

If one has gone through life, accomplishing all of this, and there is no God, has he really wasted his life?

Ask yourself how many Christians really follow the Bible? Apparently some people thought "WWJD" accounted for parading up and down the streets of America with huge signs reading "GOD HATES FAGS."

Very true. But you can't blame the religion when the people twist it to support their own agendas.

I agree one hundred percent. Half the "fanatic' christians in this forum are trying to convince us of god, so are they still true christians?

Do you consider me a fanatical Christian?

If so, on what grounds?

Wtf? Only half of you bastards are doing the Lord's work? Haha, jk. I have yet to spot any fanatical Christians yet.

Just because we make an honest try to convince someone of something doesnt make us fanatics.

What if God exists and cares more about whether someone is truthful with him and themselves. Those who are not and are just trying to hedge their bets to get into heaven, go to hell.

In which case, Pascals wagers screws you over.

Although I don't agree with Bushy's opinion that believing in something untrue is inherently a waste of time. I do wonder if people who find out there is no God when they die see attempts to convert compared to attempts to help people live a better life as a waste of time.
