Default Church or Cult?

Pat Robertson's an idiot.

quote:In summary, the Mormon church is a prosperous, growing organization that has produced many people of exemplary character. But when it comes to spiritual matters, the Mormons are far from the truth.

Yea, like Chrisitanity is the only right religion?

quote:A major problem with the tenets of Jehovah's Witnesses is that there is never an assurance of salvation. In Christianity, a person can know that he is saved by trusting in Jesus. Jehovah's Witnesses believe that salvation comes through good works, so they must work continuously, without ever really knowing whether they will be saved. Many of their other doctrines are not biblical either.

So good work is shunned?

quote:Significantly, the land of their origin--India--has horrible poverty. It also has desperate problems of overpopulation, illiteracy, hunger, mismanagement, and suffering. So it seems strange that religions which have brought such trouble to India would be imported to America where we have flourished and prospered under Christianity for several centuries.

Flourished under Christianity? Separation from Church and State, freedom to choose a religion, secular-wise laws... I don't see any Christian theocracy.

quote:The Bible does not tell us to get involved in sharpening our psychic powers. Such things are not of God. God will give people the wisdom they need through the Bible. And through the Holy Spirit, He will give them the power they need to live the life they are supposed to live. This inordinate seeking of knowledge about the future, the inordinate seeking of power over other people, the inordinate seeking of enhancement of human potential, is dangerous. Just entering into such activity is bad. I have heard of people who have started to levitate, and some who have had horrible faces appear to them in the night. All such things are symbols and signs that these people are in touch with demons

The Bible also tells us to stone people to death. Fearing human potential will not make us evolve.

Suffice it to say ^

But he is successful, in a position of power, and has sucked ass with the media for so long that he is practically their favorite religious one-man sideshow.

He may be an idiot, but he has a huge following and he's laughing all the way to the bank.

quote:Pat "the bunny" Robertson,

"...America where we have flourished and prospered under Christianity for several centuries."

Dictionary says,

Several: Being of a number more than two or three but not many: several miles away.

Century: A period of 100 years.

Declaration of independence was signed 229 years ago.

Pat Robertson can't count or doesn't even know America's history. Maybe he should use some of the money he scams from old ladies to go back to elementary school.

In summary, the Mormon church is a prosperous, growing organization that has produced many people of exemplary character. But when it comes to spiritual matters, the Mormons are far from the truth.

Isn't the basis of judging a religion's spiritual truth a review of the character of the people it yields?

A major problem with the tenets of Jehovah's Witnesses is that there is never an assurance of salvation. In Christianity, a person can know that he is saved by trusting in Jesus. Jehovah's Witnesses believe that salvation comes through good works, so they must work continuously, without ever really knowing whether they will be saved. Many of their other doctrines are not biblical either.

See, the major problem with Christianity is that it's not focused on inspiring men to do good works, but to save people who don't deserve saving.

Significantly, the land of their origin -- India -- has horrible poverty. It also has desperate problems of overpopulation, illiteracy, hunger, mismanagement, and suffering. So it seems strang that religions which have brought such trouble to India would be imported to America where we have flourished and prospered under Christianity for several centuries.

Yea, and Jesus is kicking ass and taking names over in Israel.

The Bible does not tell us to get involved in sharpening our psychic powers.

This is where the conspiracy to suppress my latent mutant abilities began...?

Such things are not of God. God will give people the wisdom they need through the Bible. And through the Holy Spirit, He will give them the power they need to live the life they are supposed to live. This inordinate seeking of knowledge about the future, the inordinate seeking of power over other people, the inordinate seeking of enhancement of human potential, is dangerous. Just entering into such activity is bad. I have heard of people who have started to levitate, and some who have had horrible faces appear to them in the night. All such things are symbols and signs that these people are in touch with demons

...and are thus infinitely more awesome than Pat Robertson.

Original poster, It seems like you don't understand what protestantism is all about. The original idea was that salvation could occur through faith and faith alone. Good works was just icing.

And every once in a while Pat Robertson says something that makes me think he's not that bad of a guy. Then he blames something assinine for something equally assinine, and orders the death of some insignifigant person. Then I realize he's a douchebag again.

The problem with the salvation through faith idea is that it yields people who are giant assholes but believe that because they had some water sprinkled on them when they were 2 months old that they'll end up in heaven. Each of us, when we search our souls do not believe that. We've all seen the godfather. Michael Corleone takes vows to be a godfather while he's having several people shot and killed. Do you really believe that man is going to the same place that a good, loving christian is going? I sure don't.

quote:

(New Testament | James 2:20)

But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?

If you have faith you will do good works because you know that your father wants you to. Because you know that it is the right thing to do. No, a billion good works will never get you to heaven, but an unshakable, unequivocated faith with a billion remorseless bad works will land you farther away from your heavenly father than good works without faith.

In my opinion, Patty boy is just another one of those super-pastors who is afraid of us mormons because we are taking his paritioners, thereby lowering his salary.

Fuck you Pat Robertson.

Thanks for sharing your knowledge on protestantism. I doubt salvation comes with ignorance and the spreading of meme-complexes. Wouldn't God want to save the smartest or wisest of the dumb crowd? Smart people dont follow a faery tale and believe, they criticise (and discuss) and theorize.

And what if you decide not to be religious because you can't find the right religion? Would God forgive you then?

Thank "God" I'm not a protestant. (irony)

Off-topic: It seems Pat Robertson is a loony conspriacy theorist. He wrote a book titled "New World Order". Makes you think one would hit rock bottom, but is shameless enough to sink deeper.

Pat Robertson has a knack for the art of planting mind viruses. And he uses the media as his Tool to make him what he is today. He doesn't care that he's become a laughingstock, or that he's over exposed. I bet his publicist makes six figures. His hardcore followers will never yank the support out from under him. They'll keep on giving just so long as Pat keeps building their empire.

At this level, it's not one individual (PR) that is at the root of this infection. It's the entire collective mass (however insignificant on a national scale) that keeps cheering him on.

And don't forget to point fingers at the media, who broadcasts it others, thereby spreading the virus. They have entire NETWORKS dedicated his livelihood.

He's even lost rank with some of his peers in Evangelism:

Several years back Pat was convinced that God was going to appear on his show. I think all his followers should've taken the hint and also stood Pat up.

Tyrant:

This is you personally, or are you quoting a source? Please advise.

Angry: I believe it's a quote from the Pat Robertson article.

Am I the only one who things a Satan who is supposably trying to win people over and away from God, but when you get in touch with him you see evil and scary things is an ineffective satan?

Unless of course, it's all made up to try and scare people into believing. But that couldn't be, no man of God would use such unscrupulous tactics.

Speaking to Jeremiah, God said, "Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you; before you were born I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations." Notice, there was a preexisting reality of this person before he was even formed in the womb!

http://www.cbn.com/700club/features/BringItOn/issues-index.asp#1

So, Mr.Pat knows that there is no free-will, because he knows that God knows whatever we're going to do, before we're even born!

I am going to email Mr.Pat and asks him further about this.

Nope, no Christian theocracy or religous-based laws, but Americans have undoubtably, on the whole, lived by Christian morals since the beginning. And, while following Christian morals, they have thrived.

I'm not sure if he's correct, but I think that's what he means.

His intentions are evil, whether he realizes it or not. The purpose of religion should be to inspire spiritually advanced thought and a loving and forgiving mindset. Judgement and condemnation have no place in spiritual matters.

see ya later folks, I'm gonna go pat my robertson.
