Depends on which religion, despite popular belief there's actually thousands of gods. Not just the Judeo-Christian version.

Assuming you're talking about christianity, you wouldn't just confess and be sorry. Saying; "I repent" is not good enough for your sins to be forgiven, you would have to be genuinely sincere, which I doubt you would be.

I guess I didn't make that clear enough, my fault. I meant that he never specified which religion he was talking about.

If you want to go through it all there's been thousands of gods for thousands of religions.

Christianity and such are just able to deal with the unknown better. I think more people would follow a religion that claims an all-powerful father figure is watching over you. Rather than one that explains it using tree spirits.
