Do you think anyone here really will respect your opinions when you say stupid, immature things like that?

Whether you are a Christian, is the Pope not doing the right thing by forgiving him?

He said "why did they kill him", not "why didn't they let him loose".

In any case, he wasn't executed, nor did the serve all of his sentence.

To get back on topic.

I believe the Pope is a very holy, good man. As much as immature, 14 year old athiests think he is the epitome of the evils of Christianity; he is actually easily one of the most liberal christian leaders in the world, if not all important religious leaders.

He is an easy target, like the whole Catholic church. What these little Pubescent athiests don't like to realize or admit is that the Catholic church of the last 50 years is a very different one than the Catholic Church of crusades, inquisitions, and "evanglelizing". And then to go further, how many these people don't like to acknowledge how many of the eras of "abuse" were actually just when martial, political, or economic gains used the church as a catalyst for "the cause".

The Catholic church today, though still very "old school" in pomp and process and Mass. Alot of it's doctrine, especially that of the last few centuries is pretty damn forward thinking and reasonable; especially for a Christian faith. And the majority of this can be credited to Pope John Paul II. Though some newer (since '96 or so)doctrine has been somewhat disturbing, and very out of place compared to the contemporary doctrinal direction. Most religiously liberal Catholic theologians credit these "out of place" doctrinals to the Popes right hand man, whose name escapes me now; but he's a hardcore old-school, very orthodox cleric. Who, take this as you will; was a Hitler Youth in his, well, youth.

I believe the Pope is pretty legitamite, but not in the way most people do. The Pope and whole Vatican history bascially say that the Pope has a "special" connection to God. I think this is a half-truth. I think it is true with John Paul II; but certainly not the majority of Popes. My feelings and beliefs of what God's "essence" or spirit, or purpose, or whatever is; lead me to think John Paul II is definately very holy and though I cannot truly be the judge of this and probably shouldn't compare things like this as it's not my place; but he's probably a better Christian than a great majority of Christians.

Goddamn, I just have all these thoughts racing through my head. I Had so much more to say, but by the time I typed so much already, I basically forgot what I was thinking.

Please continue, on track this time.

Well I would like to add that i am not a 14 immature un-reasonable athiest. Around 8 months ago I was invovled in almost all of my church activities. I was very invovled with God. But soon I realized that it never really came to me that it was at all real. Im not trying to say that everyone should be just like me. Im just saying that what i beleive is not some immature thought. Its an educated decision i made about 3 months ago, and if any one here can convince me to go back i will but for now i enjoy life as much as i did before.

Is it any less ignorant to assume I'm a christian? Ignorance is as ignorance does.

Was I attempting to "prove" the popes greatness? No, I was answering the goddamn question. The fucking question was "Whats the point of him anyways? What makes 'him' so damn holy?"

I answered.

Deal with it. You know pointless, angry rebuttles are usually a sign of trying to compensate for the feelings of inadequacy, perhaps when someone knows they are incorrect and have been put in their place?

It's also pretty common among those who become "disillusioned". Perhaps your craving to view all christians a certain way has led you to become completely single-minded and unopen to other points of view, that may very well be more valid than yours; which are just stoneset in fear and hatred?

Uh huh. Ok think what you will I'm really tired and I don't want to argue with someone that always thinks they are right. And don't try to guess how I am. Your opinions are shit and so are you. And that's my opinion. Say what you will. And you'll probly take this as that you were right. I don't really care what you think. Your just another pathetic human being on this planet. Just like me and everybody else. Our exsistance is pointless. The only thing we are leading up to is our own self-destruction.

Christianity has nothing to do with the Pope other than the fact that Catholicism incorporated the "Salvation through Faith" theology into their own doctrine.

It would be just another man dying to those of us within the Christian Community that are non-denominational.

I care just as much about the Pope dying as I do about you dying. We all die the same, and no one person should matter more than another.

What, exactly, would be so good about the pope being slain? He strikes me as a pretty damned good guy and he's worked hard to promote goodness in the world. If anything, I think we need more people in the world who are willing to give up a fair portion of their life to do stuff like he's done (Face it, not many people would have the balls like he does to go into unfriendly countries and tell their dictators that they're wrong to their faces).

I think the Pope's right-hand man is Archbishop Stanislaw Dziwisz, some sort of personal secretary if I'm not mistaken.

That dude was just pointing it out.

I actually have to say one of the (few) things I like about the LDS (Mormon) Church is their introduction of new doctrine - the same goes for the Catholics (but to a lesser degree). Whether you personally think it's inspired or not, you've got to admit it helps keep the church more up with the times.

For instance, there's doctrine in the LDS church that says you're not supposed to watch rated 'R' movies. Now there are probably passages in the bible that when pasted together mean that (ie no lust, no violence, etc) but it's a lot more nifty to just have new doctrine. Not that I think any of it's divine or anything.

About the pope. Since I'm not Catholic (except my baptism) I have no connection to him, but personally I would like for him to die. Not because I'm one of those "zomg fuck xianity punk rawk" kids, but because I would like to see how people react. My mother assures me that the pope dying is one of the biggest events I'll ever see; I haven't had the experience yet.

No man that has walked the earth is Holy, except for Jesus.

That is why this "deity" status that has been given to the Popes is unbiblical, and should be considered false doctrine.

No man should be worshipped...or deified.

Even Paul, who was the greatest disciple that ever lived !

How much more did he do for humanity than Mary did, and she is PRAYED to, as though she has some sort of bargaining power in Heaven !

The Pope is never mentioned in the Bible. As a matter of fact, there are specific scriptures that say that NO MAN should come before God. NONE !

Catholicism has many errors...all we can do is pray that one day they will see the truth; and it will set them free.

Religion and God are not synonymous. How many times do we have to discuss this, Z ? It is such a simple concept that I can't understand why it eludes you.

As I have said to you NUMEROUS times before, you can be a Christian Catholic, but being Catholic alone does not provide you with salvation.

Only God can do that, through the blood of Christ which has atoned for our sins, and that has absolutely nothing to do with Catholicism.

Which means it has nothing to do with the Pope, either.

That's the problem with the continual additions, though, Z...

The Bible has already been translated. It doesn't need to be interpretted any further, though that is not the issue we are addressing here.

Interpretation is fine, if that were still necessary. Since its not, its moot to bring it up.

What is at issue here is the ADDITIONAL doctrine that keeps being added.

You make it sound like God needs the Pope to keep adding things to the Bible, when He doesn't.

It is highly convenient for Catholicism for the Pope to say so, because that gives him all sorts of authority over the people who follow Catholicism...they are forced to rely on the Pope in ways that they should be relying on God alone.

God doesn't need the Pope, anymore than we do.

Its all about power, and ego.

None of what I say takes away from the fact that the Pope is a good man, and has done a great deal of good for mankind.

But Christ said to us that our works are as filthy rags, and that only salvation through Him by faith makes us blameless and worthy.

None of the good things that the Pope has done makes him "holy". His belief in Christ as the Savior does...and that is all.

Which means he is no better than any other Christian on the planet...

I would tremble in fear if anyone tried to title me as the 'Vicar of Christ'. How could anyone DARE be so presumptuous and arrogant ?

He told Peter to be the leader after his death. Peter did that and he passed that tradition on, thus creating the papacy. If the pope and the church isn't in the bible, then why was it around first with the other sects of christianity comeing around second?

Hegesippus came up with a list for apostolic succession of bishops around 180 C.E. Irenaeus later used this list to "prove" that Peter and Paul had founded the church of Rome, the bishop of which was to be considered authoritative. It is not wise to assume that Hegesippus' list is completely accurate, especially when you consider that he was of the orthodox church, and not a sectarian himself. You wouldn't really expect a member of the orthodox church to say that the sectarians came along first, would you?

???? The deity status has not been given to the Pope. That is about the dumbest thing I've heard from you I think.

What's the problem with religion? Where in the Bible does God put religion down?

Jesus found a Church. That's my interpretation of the Bible. First there was Judaism. ONE relgion. There was no "there is no religion. I have a relationship with God. I don't have to go the tabernacle or whatever....."

Jesus changed that. He set up a new church. This Church would eventually become known as the Roman Catholic Church. It seems to me that if you refuse the Church you're not taking what Christ did seriously.

Christ does need the Church. That's what any organization of any religion is for. That's what the disciples were for. They preached and clarified and told what was meant by Jesus's words. That's what the Pope does. He doesn't add things to the Bible. He is a guide.

Matthew 16:17-19

Jesus replied, "Blessed are you , Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by man, but my Father in heaven. (18) And I tell you that you are Peter(Rock), and on this rock I will build MY CHURCH, and the gates of Hades wil not overcome it. Rock refers to Peter. He is the foundation and administrator. Not the Lord of the Church.

The power of the keys is the authority Jesus gave him.

Binding and loosing were rabbinical terms, which were forbid and permit, ban or aquit, in regard to interpretation of the law.

He also told the all the disciples that whatever they bound and loosed were bound and loosed in heaven and that any sin they forgave are forgiven and any sin they did not forgive was not forgiven. Matthew 18:17-18, John 20:23

Peter was preeminent among the disciples.

*LOL*

You obviously can't comprehend anything that is being said, then.

Which is scary, because you think you understand Catholicism.

I never said anything about deification...PRAYING TO SOMETHING/SOMEONE IS A FORM OF WORSHIP.

You don't pray to something you don't have spiritual reverence for.

That reverence should be reserved for God, and God alone.

You degrad men when they give you their opinion or you post on thier topic to downgrade. On the other hand your rather nice to the girls on the site. You are just bitter sexist bitch that has nothing better to do then to put down other people's ideas. You're a cunt.

And who the hell are you ?

Are you someone who is a frequenter, but changed your name (which you didn't even spell right, I might add) ?

Do you honestly think I care what your opinion is of me ? Hardly.

I think I am better than no one. If I didn't feel that most of the people on here were my intellectual equal, I wouldn't bother. No sense in wagging your finger at a tree, if you know what I mean.

I assume from your skewed opinion of me that you think I ought not defend myself. If someone is being a jerk, I am going to call them on it. I expect no less of them in return.

I am not here to gain respect.

I am not here to be popular.

I am here to do my best in perpetuating the truth about God, and dispell any misconceptions.

Sexist ? Now that's a first.

I would have to say that hatred of Christians by Totseans far exceeds anything that could be construed as "man-hating" on my part.

I prefer men to women, as a matter of fact.

I have to point out that the women on here (which are few and far between) are "generally" much nicer and more respectful of others here on Totse than the men are. Unless they give me reason to retaliate, I won't. And so far, I haven't had to.

The majority of the men here are deplorable. The things they think are appropriate to say to me, as a woman, are horrific.

I wouldn't be half as defensive as I am if they weren't. You act like all of this is self-inflicted, and I have no reason to be angry at times.

I don't see you chasing any of THEM down, waving your self-righteous stick.

You called me a cunt.

I think that pretty much sums up the value of your opinion.

What denomination are you(if you don't mind me asking)?

Non-denominational.

As you point out, Catholicism was around before Christianity, so how could Peter have been the "founding father", so to speak ?

Peter's faith and understanding of Christ was what the church was to be "built on".

That is all that the verse in Matthew 18 meant.

It didn't mean that we ought to idolize him, and appoint men to act on God's behalf as supreme head of God's church.

If you use those you won't have to make a new post for each quote.

I keep them separated for ease of use.

If I put all my replies in the same post, it would be 4 pages long, and people wouldn't know if I had replied specifically to them or not, because they wouldn't want to read it.

Maybe they don't now...but...that's my reasoning for the way I do it.

Thanks, though !

Everybody experiences some excitement when something significant happens, just most people (including you - since you see fit to draw random conclusions about me, I'm able to do the same) don't want to admit it or discuss it. Sorry for breaking the arbitrary conversational boundaries you and your pathetic excuse for a community have created. Go fucking cry to Jesus, asshole.

PS Don't universalize your opinions on what respect is and what respect isn't because as far as I'm concerned it's completely moot - you respect a guy who said he was God. Say "I think" because your opinion extends to nobody but yourself and it's extremely fucking conceited to say a universal; then again, Christians are used to being extremely fucking conceited. They're God's people after all, they can be, right?

It is truly lost on you that the difference between you and other people is that THEY DON'T WANT TO SEE THE POPE DIE, just so they can get their rocks off, isn't it ?

Why would anyone have anything to hide here on Totse ? I think this is the most free-thinking people do in their whole day. They have no societal constraints. There is no accountability. They can say what they please...and that makes you disgusting for wanting someone to die so that you can experience excitement over it.

I wasn't saying anything about your reaction to "something significant". I was referring to your macabre desire to see the Pope die. Two totally different things. One is innocent, and the other is sick.

I could care less about conversational boundaries. What you said exhibited your complete lack of common decency. You can feel however you want...I don't even presume to try and take that away from you.

If you don't think you're a little bit dysfunctional for desiring another person's death, so that you can be excited...well...there is no help for you.

You can hide behind your reasoning that I can't possibly universalize what respect is, but the fact of the matter is that what you said is loathsome. I don't see how I am so off the mark by thinking that.

Obviously, if I say something here on Totse, it is because "I THINK" it. Why do I need to point that out every time I post ? That is true of everyone.

It's pretty funny that you think Christians are conceited, simply because they have salvation through Christ.

I know a lot of Christians, and the majority of them are incredibly humble.

Sticks and stones...

I get the concept.

You haven't given any sort of Biblical support for your assertion.

Peter was meant to be a model to ALL disciples, not just to people who are in charge of God's church.

Biologically, it cannot be said that ANY of the "pontiff's" have been related to Peter. They were voted into their position by other fallible men.

I don't see how this could possibly be construed as divine appointment.

My problem is the inherent hypocrisy in you calling him out for not replying, when you have countless threads where you have not replied. Your hypocrisy is so crude, disgusting and pathetic that I may as well vomit.

Damn u care about the Pope and catholic church. It's all going downhill anyway. The Pope died and the catholic church is just a shadow of it's former self. They are losing members and are soon just another fish in the pond.

Yeah I mean, if you look at the news reports, it's obvious that they aren't gathering together to help eachother get through this...

With the right pope, the catholic church can become even stronger and greatly increase it's member base.

Well if catholics idolized the pope, then you may have a point...

Also, the pope doesn't "act on God's behalf", he is someone who has great expertise on scripture and doctorine, and is capable of answering questions that catholics may have. Provide guidance if they can't provide it for themselves.

As for your first question, I don't quite follow what you're getting at.

Yes, but they ruin it by elevating themselves.

Jesus was a humble servant of men, was he not ?

He didn't need to wear hats that were 3 feet tall, cased in gold.

He didn't need a fancy staff, or a specific manner of holding his fingers to bless his disciples.

He certainly didn't need his hand to be kissed everywhere he went.

I think there is a drastic difference between the Pope and Jesus.

If you are going to call yourself a Christian, you should probably try and act like Christ...especially if you are going to claim that you are the "Vicar" of him !

The Pope doesn't act on God's behalf ?

From the Catechism:

"For the Roman Pontiff, by reason of his office as Vicar of Christ, and as pastor of the entire Church has full, supreme, and universal power over the whole Church, a power which he can always exercise unhindered." (#882, p. 254)

"The Pope enjoys, by divine institution, supreme, full, immediate, and universal power in the care of souls." (#937, p.267) (if being in care of our souls isn't being "God", I don't know what could be !)

Vicar: A priest who acts for or represents another...

Of Christ

That pretty much sums it up, don't you think ?

That is taught by almost all catholic grade schools now. Every good catholic lives by that principal, including the pope.

As for the gold and posterity. That's just personal opinion. You may think that that symbolizes that the pope thinks that he is better than everyone. I think his actions speak otherwise.

How many times can I say, "VICAR OF CHRIST" ??!!!

It means what it says. He supposed that he is here on earth, in Christ's stead until Christ returns.

That's BS, and totally unbiblical. Period.

No Catholic thinks the Pope is on the same level as Jesus ? REALLY ?! You haven't been watching the same news reports I have, then.

He is idolized, and that's a sin. There's no way around that.

I don't get your point about J.O.Y. I mean, that's great and all, but I am not understanding it's relevance.

I don't think that the Pope thinks he is better than anyone else...strangely, it seems that each Pope has achieved an uncanny ability of being able to be completely humble, and completely full of himself at the same time.

Again, compare the Pope, or any other Christian, to Jesus...of course, we all fall short, but some in more noticable ways than others.

Inthe Pope's case, he is being flamboyant, and attracting attention to himself by wearing the things he does. Is that supposed to be his purpose ? Isn't he supposed to be drawing attention to our Lord ?

Jesus wore a simple robe. He didn't adorn himself with flashy thing, and speak in lofty voices. He was a man...and a servant.

I am certainly not saying that the Pope is going to hell for this, I am simply pointing out that this is exactly how Satan detracts from God's glory.

He prompts men to do silly, unimportant things, that end up having serious effects on the flock.

It is a subtle (or not so subtle) way of taking people's minds off of what they should have them on....

GOD.
