Re: heaven vs hell
I dont think that hell is all pain and shit....and i dont think at death you goto either one or the either. this is how I see it:
When you die your soul is a free spirit, you don't necessarily have to goto heaven or hell. you have a choice, you can wander around aimlessly, interacting with other free spirits, demons and goto other non physical planes of existence. or you can goto heaven or hell. if you lead a good christian life you get right into heaven, if not, you put some time into purgatory until you're proven yourself. Or you can get into hell pretty automatically. I think hell is probably more like vegas, its got a lot of sinful fun. whores, drugs, booze (im not sure what drugs/booze mean to the dead, but im sure they have some way to alter your 'mind', but you see what im getting at:the dead equivalent to getting fucked up), and a lot of fun probably. But it will probably get old after a while, and tehre will probably be pain and suffering. maybe the food sucks. I'd think that once you get into hell, you probably can never leave.
I also think the other religions probably have some space up there too. maybe valhalla is across the street from heavens gate. you can probably spend eternity with whichever religion that has existed, or you can go around by yourself.
one, but not the only reason, for this thought is that look at poltergeists. They are the souls of the deceased, or possibly demons. but they exist here, not in heaven or hell.

Re: heaven vs hell
I came to the conclusion that if christianity is correct Hell would be a more appropriate atmosphere for humans than Heaven. In fact, Hell would be Heaven and Heaven would be Hell because Hell is kind of a capitolist society at it's finest.: The more evil you are the nicer you get it in Hell.
Eventually you might even get a pool.

Common sense son. Humans are inheritaly "evil." As lost was saying Heaven would be boring for humans because we do bad things. Think about it, you probably like drinking booze/doing drugs, gambling and having sex with women(or men).

women. and to say that humans are inherintley evil is a pretty pessimistic view. and thats also saying that you believe that drinking, gamling and sex is evil. I do not believe that. I am agnostic, I do not follow the morals of the christian church beyond the common sense one; thou shall not kill, steal, etc... I don't think that there is anything wrong, especially evil, about drinking and having sex....gambling isn't a great thing, but I dont think it's evil. though it leads to much evil, because it is founded on desire. which is the root of suffering in the buddhist belief system.

do you think that cheating (adultery) is one of those "common sense" ones?
you said that stealing is one you follow. In away, isnt gambling a form of stealing, not to mention coveting, which you already pointed out (from buddist worldview).
As to drinking, hmmm... ever notice when your drunk, you tend to think you are invisible, or invincible, or willing to "sleep" with people that you wouldnt consider if you were sober?
I dont think that drinking is evil, in and of itself, but it damn sure is a catalyst. And more-so for some people or circumstances.
As is drug use.

That is asuming the Christian veiw of Hell is right. Most Christians believe that people are born bad, sex is only for procreation and drinking should be done in moderation if at all.

Fuck that, I'd be doing drugs, drinking booze, shooting guns, and fucking sluts IN Heaven. After all, Heaven is supposed to be a place of Eternal bliss, and those things happen to bring me bliss. It would be cool to hang out in Valhalla and fight without getting hurt for the rest of Eternity. SWEET!

Re: heaven vs hell
What makes you think that you don't have to prove your self to go to hell? Its probaly a lot easier to go to hell than heaven. You got to know a lot more people are there. I don't like religion because its mostly based on what happens to after you die whitch people fear so religion comforts them knowing they got some where to go after they die. And religion keeps the population in check by haveing the bad people feel eternal pain while the good people get to live in bliss. Religion keeps people happy so thats why it doesn't die off and it never will. We will never know what happens after we die till we get there.

I used to be way into viking mythology. As I understand it, you do get hurt and you DO die in Valhalla, but at the end of every day after fighting, the dead rise up again then goto a large mead hall and drink and eat and have a great time. then you goto sleep and do it all over again.

humans die, spirits go to heaven/hell.
edit: all of the things that xerxes talks about being in hell are just human urges. once your human part dies, your spirit is born and it is finally free of our animal body
and maybe your joking, but i don't think any of the descriptions of hell are correct in here, there will be no freedom to "gamble and have sex" i see it more like being in a flaming pile of people with no way out.

Re: heaven vs hell
This is my opinion. Others may disagree.
My reasoning for this stems from some research I did into first few chapters in Genesis when Adam and Eve eat from The Tree Of Knowledge Of Good And Evil. God probably didn't realize - humans being an entirely new concept - that a creature with freewill could not live a psychologically healthy life in a perfect existence like The Garden Of Eden.
Freewill needs adversity. A creature with a choice needs to have choices to make, and if every choice is the right choice, eventually they will start creating adversity for themselves just so they'll have something to choose against.
Therefore Adam and Eve had no choice but to eat from the tree.
This suggests that humans cannot survive happily in a perfect place, and since Heaven is supposed to be perfect it most certainly would be hell. And since Hell is a place of consistant adversity, it most certainly would be heaven.
Cheers,
Lost

jebus fucking christ....you can't justify anything by just posting a scripture #....those names/numbers mean nothing to me and the majority of the world...and im a whiteboy from NY.

Again, with the circular reasoning... maybe this is just a faith issue, but I disagree that you can claim a belief is correct just because it is in a book. So there's this notion about dozens of virgin wives waiting for me in heaven described in the Koran... It's in an established "Holy Book", does that make it true? How can anyone say?

Actually, even though my faith in God's Word is the first and foremost reason for my belief, there are other reasons for my belief.
These are in no particular order and are not the complete least:
I find particles to people evolution a fairy tale... the "random chance" part of evolution, to me, is just a way for people to put their 'faith' into something they cant understand.
The first time i saw a list of contridictions in the Bible, it shook my faith almost to the core. It wasnt until i looked at these contridictions more closely (sometimes using the Literal Translation) and found that none of them were what they claimed to be. (i'm sorry for still not addressing them. I did say that i would, and i forget to whom i said that i would. I still have intentions for doing so, but am pretty good at procratination).
another of my beliefs lies as more of a curiousity than anything else. many people (even in TOTSE) say that religion was started as a way to control the populace. First, let me say that i think this was more likely the case after religion was started, used by less than scrupulous "entrepeneurs". Anyway, i find it very curious that so many pastors believe that the Bible is true, concidering the many years of studying it, and knowing that they too, have been pointed out the contridictions. Also that they, being human, have had doubts and trials. Some may be faking it and some even have compromised their belief in the Bible with evolution and millions of years. I know you can say this is true about any religious leaders, not just Christian leaders. This is why it isnt so much a reason as a curiousity.
I believe that there has been "something" for all eternity. Something had to always be. Some of you have asked, "If God made everything, who made God?" but i have the reverse question... "If the big bang was the begining, what was before the big bang?" The answer to the first question is answered in the Bible... in fact, the hardest part of the Bible to believe.
Genisis 1:1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth
I have not seen a better answer presented by science or by another religion....
In the begining energy... and what made energy "decide" to become matter? chance?
Oh well, time for bed. Argue amongst yourselves, but keep it to a dull roar please. SSSHHHHHhhhhh....lol

My thoughts exactly. I was thinking the other day, if the Angel of Darkness (Satan, Lucifer, whatever) died, God would send him to Heaven.

Why cannot evolution be a design of God? Evolution doesn't have to be 'random', just as an act of the weather to you is not 'random'. If God changes his mind as to how his creation shall be, that in essence is evolution based upon how we would see it. A change over time to the surroundings. God changes the surroundings and the organisms with it. It's not a huge controversy. If you disagree with it, in essence you're saying that God cannot change his creation. It's your bedtime now....'ssshhhhh...lolz l8t3r sk8t3rz j3suz is mah h0mi3zzz...'
And what's this about compromising belief in the Bible with the belief in the earth being millions of years old? Many living things have walked on this earth millions of years ago. Carbon dating is a proven technology. The Old Testament was complied thousands of years ago, and it was more than likely stating the age of human civilization, not the age of the earth. Another contradiction probably made by poor translation. It's a shame that mistakes made in translation and human error can bring about incongruencies and ignorance. Taking down two birds with one stone, the Nephilim were the products of angel and human relations. They were described as physical giants in comparison to normal humans. Fossils find that even different types of humans lived during the SAME period of time, like the Cro-Magnon and the Neanderthal populations. That would match with the Nephilim and the normal human living in the same period. Neanderthal fossils disappeared about 10,000 years into the timeperiod with the Cro-Magnons. A natural disaster such as the Flood would seem to correlate to that. Controversy also persists regarding the fate of Neanderthals, with opinion divided between those who argue that they became extinct and were replaced by modern H. sapiens and those who argue that their anatomical distinctions were diluted through gene flow. Even still, the Flood in the Bible with no doubt wiped out the Nephilim as they knew it. Tests conducted on surviving Neanderthal DNA have shown little similarity to the DNA of modern humans. However, Cro-Magnons, which are the forebears the modern homo sapien, do.
The evidence is there, and it does not contradict the doctrine. The only thing disputing evolution is human arrogance. God can do whatever the hell he wishes, and create any image he wishes. He has many forms, many masks, and to call one form God alone would in principle deify each, creating many 'gods' in a pantheon. However, there is only one God, and he can hold many masks. Thus by changing a mask in creating man in his image, creates many different aspects. I can see physical similarities and differences to me with the fossils of the Cro-Magnon and Neanderthal just as there are comparing myself with everyone in the world. We have different shapes, sizes, and colors. Evolution is not denial of God just as the Trinity is not denial of one God.
I hope you enjoyed your lesson.

I'm just going to answer this one for now, then its off to bed.
Evolution puts disease/suffering/death/destruction before the curse caused by first sin. The wages of sin is death. So if millions of years of evolution is true then the 6 days of creation are not literal days. But bible scholars agree that the wording of the creation account is written in such a way that it was meant as literal solar days, not ages or gaps.
Good night, and God Bless you all.

Doesnt origin by evolution = time + chance + ramdom mutations + natural selection + genetic drift.

How could an omniscient being change His mind?
A change over time to the surroundings. God changes the surroundings and the organisms with it. It's not a huge controversy. If you disagree with it, in essence you're saying that God cannot change his creation.
God can do anything He wants to do. But He says in His Word that through Adam's sin, death entered the world. The Genesis account of Adam and Eve descibes the very first humans, about 6000 years ago. Is there a way to put millions and billions of years INTO 6000 years? Only be comprimising God's Word, and when you do that, you are saying that God is wrong.... in effect, you are really saying that God does not exist. This is in my opinion, the only way true Christians can be hypocrites.

amazing lol

read above.
Carbon dating is only good for about 50,000 yrs. and can be contaminated, by water among other factors.
The Old Testament was complied thousands of years ago, and it was more than likely stating the age of human civilization, not the age of the earth.
Both, actually. Although the Bible does not state how long Adam and Eve were in the Garde of Eden, it does mention at minimum, two things that imply the age of the earth: six creation days and the number of years Adam lived.
the Nephilim were the products of angel and human relations.
The Nephilim are a mystery. No one really knows for certain that they were offspring of angels and humans. But i'll give you this much.. it is possible.
They were described as physical giants in comparison to normal humans. Fossils find that even different types of humans lived during the SAME period of time, like the Cro-Magnon and the Neanderthal populations. That would match with the Nephilim and the normal human living in the same period.
I'm sorry, were Neanderthal and/or Cro-Magnon found to be of giant size.
Neanderthal fossils disappeared about 10,000 years into the timeperiod with the Cro-Magnons. A natural disaster such as the Flood would seem to correlate to that.
According to a litteral reading of the Bible, the Flood would have been about 4500 years ago. But something does correlate to the time of the Flood...
there have been no new animals domesticated since about 4500 yrs ago (or so i have heard). Check this out for yourself, i could be wrong on this. If so, please give me some references.
Controversy also persists regarding the fate of Neanderthals, with opinion divided between those who argue that they became extinct and were replaced by modern H. sapiens and those who argue that their anatomical distinctions were diluted through gene flow. Again, does this show coorelation to the nephilm?
The evidence is there, and it does not contradict the doctrine.
No its not, and yes it does.
The only thing disputing evolution is human arrogance.
Yes, humans are arrogant, but trusting man's fallible word, over God's infallible Word is where arrogance lies.
I hope you enjoyed your lesson.
Yes i did enjoy it, but i think we are speaking of two different lessons.
