Even if the origional teachers were real most modern religions have been corupted for political means, to control peasants and such. I doubt Jesus or Mohamed would be too impressed with they way Christianity and Islam operate today.

Jm5k, you're "theory" makes no sense. The people with the ability to engineer that kind of trick (i.e. the rich and powerful) would not want to encourage the poor people to follow Jesus, who's teachings stand up to the established clergy and powerful people of the time.

Christ's teachings were as dangerous to the status quo as communism is to free market capitalists, or open source software is to Microsoft.

I didn't think it through... LOl I was kinda bullshitting. But agian Marry was not a virgin for jesus but it was just embarrasing for joseph to admit it because at that time he wasn't allowed to have sex with marry before the second marriage. Because it was a dynastic marriage it was dictated by certain rules. And the bible though is full of wordings that mean more then they say... like when mount sinai was surrounded by lightening and thunder that was actualy people with great power. And when angels were seen these were just high up priests that were though of as almost godly. And the voice of god was just the highest ranking priest. Much of the bible is just simply metaphors, but this isn't my theory. and I regard it as truth because it was based on alot of research and other scrolls and books other then the bible.

The original word used in the bible for what we translated as "virgin" was the word Almah. Almah is not the word to say someone has not had sex there is an entirely different word for that. Almah means young women.

The word that is translated as "virgin" in Isaiah 7:14 is "almah". Here is the strong's definition:

Strong's Ref. # 5959

Romanized `almah

Pronounced al-maw'

feminine of HSN5958; a lass (as veiled or private):

KJV--damsel, maid, virgin.

Now, if we take a look at the prophetic verse:

Isaiah 7:14

Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.

Can you explain to me how the word "almah", could be translated as anything else but virgin... what i mean to say is that if you substitute lass, maid, damsel.. by implication-- young girl in place of the word "virgin", that it would be a sign?

i.e.

Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The young girl will be with child and will give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.

So basically, you are saying, a young girl will give birth... and that is the sign from God.

What kind of sign would that be? Young girls give birth all the time = no sign.

Virgin giving birth = remarkable event..maybe we should look at it as a sign?

These aren't really "theories."

I can't really name anything religion has done that has impacted human culture in a positive way, unless you consider collective mass delusion and centuries upon centuries of seemingly endless violence, hatred, and bigotry on all applicable levels positive.

Virgin Mary was nothing of the sort. A "Virgin Birth" is impossible and blasphemous by nature's design, not god's. Jesus' biological father was (get this) the Roman sentinel Pantera, who raped Mary. However, Mary was considered a Virgin in later years because sex is evil and women are virgins until they can get down and dirty in wedlock, and then ONLY to procreate.

Jesus was real, but he was never the "savior of mankind." Mary Magdalene was his bride, not a whore, and she even wrote one of the gospels, one which has generally been ignored throughout history. He was not, or ever will be, the savior or mankind, nor a messiah. He failed; he was crucified and humiliated before he could finish what his followers convinced him he needed to do. Moses was a messiah (according to the bible, but I think Exodus is exaggerated bullshit as well), Jesus wasn't. The Christians, at the time, were being horribly abused by the Roman Empire, and were collectively disillusioned by his death, so they began to slowly convince themselves he "was" the messiah, and over the centuries, this became accepted as fact. Yet, even after nearly 2000 years, he has yet to return. And the Roman Empire is long gone, so I ask, his return would serve what purpose exactly?

I do not consider theology a form of philosophy. Philosophers ask questions, theologans question answers.

Just a few thoughts. I'm too exhausted to think right now.

Well, logic, for one thing, and my own personal conclusions about the subject at hand. Also, I'm quite fond of these small, rectangular objects which contain words used to string sentences together, which are in turn printed on dried-out mashed tree pulp. And I especially appreciate how you didn't express your opinion regarding any of the things I discussed and instead reciprocated using a cliched 1337 acronym. And I didn't say they were theories, either.

re: Virgin Birth and Isaiah-

I once read that when the Torah was translated into greek i.e the Septuagint (sp?), the greek phrase that was chosen by the translators to convey the meaning of almah, was one commonly used for a virgin.

However, I can't think of where I read that, so it may have come from a source that has shown itself to be dodgey in other areas...

edit: spelling

Referring to what, exactly? Those are my opinions. I mean, why would I need to read a friggin' book to wonder why exactly Jesus is coming back, or who or what he's supposed to save us from? Very little of what I said has anything to do with historical context.

This might be dodgy, but I read somewhere that Virgin births CAN actually occur, but only females.

Incredibly rare though.

Smeh, a male virgin birth, on the other hand, is ridiculous, even if a female one is possible, since the mother has no y chromosome (I hope ).

Course, I guess thats why they call it a miracle.

Religion is our way of acting out our instincts of seperate opinions...which leads to fights, wars, jealousy, anger, etc...I do believe religion is the root of all evil, but we cannot stop it...I DO believe god exists though...but believing in him as a whole is better than believing in him in groups who start wars against eachother
